Over ripe bananas don't taste very good IMO, I guess maybe if they are real cold their wouldn't be much taste. :) Paul

Will post it, Thanks and Good Job! :) BTW what's your ODO miles? Paul -
Maybe a bad 12v Batt. connection. :headscratch: Paul

The lowest SOC of charge is 32% (when the HVB is cool) without starting ICE automatically, normally it is 38% SOC when the HVB is warmed up. When the HVB is cool in the morning if you accelerate with the ICE, the HVB will assist until you get down to 32% SOC, so under hard acceleration there isn't a chance of only ICE pushing the car without EV helping until the SOC is down to 32%. :) I believe from mine and others testing it is wasteful, poor MPG's to run the ICE at slow speeds, under 30 mph, because EV Motors are substantially more efficient at those speeds. Where as the ICE gets more efficient at higher speeds. I wouldn't worry about how low your HVB is when you get home, it will be very rare the ICE will start until you get going, +20mph. It does help to keep the car in the garage. :) Paul P.S. I do have a block and oil pan heaters which really shortens or eliminates the ICE warm up time.

In the morning your HVB is cold which causes it be able to drain quicker = more power. Next time when HVB is cool and has 50%+ SOC accelerate at the maximum power in the blue(around two bars)on the Smart Gauge Empower Display, just to see how quick the CMAX is in EV. :) Paul

For me the EV+ works with my strategy of using HVB for speeds less than 35mph and I'm currently getting 56-58mpg for the last three tanks. From a stop I will accelerate to 15-20 mph before starting ICE and usually works fine if you have enough HVB SOC. Most of my driving is 45-55 mph and will go slower if there isn't any traffic so I can use terrain to improve MPG's. Slow down going uphills and coasting down hills. :) When I first start out in the morning I can go down to 32% HVB SOC before ICE will kicks in if I use light accelerator pressure. I usually be going at least 15 mph and can get to 35 mph before the ICE starts. The faster you are going when the ICE starts, better the ICE gas mileage is. You can see this watching your instantaneous MPG Smart Gauge, at 25-35 mph you're getting maybe 10 mpg, but at 65 mph you're getting 20-25 mpg. :) Paul

So how much range do you have combining the two? :) Paul
-
It sounds like you can use up NRG portion of HVB and then keep going EV in Hybrid part of HVB. How much extra range is that? :) Paul
-
Here is my take on EV+ with the Hybrid, first is the only time transmission fluid is being pumped is when the ICE is running. When you start in the morning as soon as you hit 35 mph the ICE will start no matter SOC or WT to lube the trans. Second the ICE needs to be above 128*F WT and will try to keep from going into EV until it does. This is why I heat up oil pan and block heaters in the morning so I'm already above 128*F. :) Also quite often when the HVB cools off the SOC will go up alot, I have seen as high as 23% when it was 57% and the next morning it was 80%, WOW! :yahoo: Paul

It's pretty rare that the ICE comes on when the car goes into EV+ Mode going to home or work with my Hybrid. :) Paul

215/65/17... will it fit. will it increase mpgs?
ptjones replied to jkaminsky's topic in Wheels & Tires
I looked at it and I didn't think there would be enough clearance when turning, it would rub on fender. Paul -
With ScanGaugeII you can monitor intake air temps, but you normally see only 10*F above ambient air temps when moving. When you stop temps can rise another 10-20*F in the ICE compartment. :) Paul

I think mine is quicker. LOL :) Actually I would think the SOC would have a significant effect in acceleration numbers. I noticed I need +50% SOC to get EV assist to work good. Paul

I have driven my Daughter's 2011 Prius on a few trips and drove a 2016 Prius at Car Show, nicer interior, but Ugly exterior.( slightly better performance and handling than 2011 Prius, still no CMAX.) You are right I work on getting the best MPG's I can, It's Fun, which includes Grill Covers, wheel covers, Premium Gas and 50psi tire pressure. I believe these mods are worth 5-6mpg. With temps above 85*F at 45mph I should be getting 75mpg and my record tank was on a trip around FL where I went 922mi. on 13.5gal and 68.3mpg which will give you an idea what's possible. :) BTW the Energi does weigh 250+ pounds more than an Hybrid CMAX. :) Paul
-
Good Job, I see you have Coasting figured out. Are you using Grill Covers and ScanGaugeII to monitor your SOC and temps? :) Paul
-
I agree too, 0-60 mph times are quick around 7 sec. range IIRC. If battery is charged the FWY acceleration is good too. :) Paul

Just filled up, 788mi. total, 530mi. EV 68% EV, 58MPG and 50% city. :shift: You would be hard pressed to do that in a Prius, let alone a Prius V. :yahoo: Paul
-
Well I finally filled up today, been about a month, 788 mi., 13.6gal., 58MPG, 68%EV and my Fuelly went up another .1mpg to 47.3MPG, almost 136k mi. total now. :yahoo: I could have made it to 800 miles easily, didn't fell like pushing it. :shift: :) Paul

The HVB isn't suppose to be getting down to 32% or less, but happens when some kind of HVB check or test is done over night. Starting a cold ICE with low Volts requires more amps, this doesn't happen when ICE is warmed up and HVB is charged up some. Prius has half the size HVB ,even smaller DC Motors than the CMAX and runs the ICE most of time. I have driven my Daughter's 2011 Prius a few times on trips and the ICE runs constantly vs the CMAX ICE runs 60% of the time. My Life Time EV is 50% and as far as I can tell Prius doesn't keep track of EV time and instead uses the EV to assist the ICE. As you can see the CMAX and Prius are two quite different Hybrids and IMO I like the CMAX much better. :) Paul Paul

I believe the HVB will probably last as long as the car. With 136K mi. I'm getting as good of MPG's as I ever have. I think I'm using only about 10% of the HVB (38 to 48%) most of the time. IIRC I have seen a couple of times where actual SOC was less than 40% and the CMAX wouldn't go into EV+ Mode, not sure why. In EV+ I think I can get down to 32% SOC before ICE kicks in. When SOC gets below 34% the ICE jerks when starting. :) Paul
-
I wonder if that changes with age of the HVB. I know now my HVB fills up quicker now. Paul

I use E+ and it comes on going to work and home. I have a ScanGaugeII so I can monitor HVB SOC, I usually keep it between 38-50% SOC and only see it higher when I'm going down hill. Going uphill doesn't charge the HVB very fast and if you get above 50% SOC the HVB will help going uphill. When I get home my SOC is usually 38-43% and at work around 47%, work is a hundred feet higher elevation and 7 mi. In the morning at home I have seen the lowest SOC of 28% and highest of 80%, which happened after getting back from FWY trip and put MADMAX away at night with 57% SOC. BTY you can go pretty far with 80% HVB SOC if you keep it under 35 mph so the ICE doesn't start up in the morning. I attribute this from the HVB cooling off at night. IIRC it seemed that 62% SOC = full for Smart Gauge. :) Paul
