My Testing of My Wife's 2013 ECO Boost 4cyl. Explorer w/auto trans doesn't support your statement. ;) I don't see how an ICE can stop without the vehicle stopping with an auto trans. At 70 mph I'm turning 2K rpm in neutral or Drive going down hill, 1k rpm at 40 mph in neutral or Drive. On my trip back from AZ I filled up outside of Birmingham,AL at about 100 mi. I remembered to use neutral coasting. I was getting 24.5mpg and 100mi. later I was up to 28mpg. I had the same experience driving up to Smyrna from Newnan going out on my trip. When I get back my regular ScanGaugeII from friend I will put it on the Explorer to get more info. :) Paul

Strange, long wooooo sound at steady speeds, ICE on

Have you talked to anyone at the State level concerning the lemon law? Maybe Lawyer time. Paul -

That is sad that no one either knew or was hiding the fact you needed to file before your Warranty was up. I'm disappointed in the way FORD has handled this problem, Good Will is a very important thing in the Car Business. :rant2:  :swear: :sos:  Paul -
I took my Wife's 2013 ECO-BOOST Explorer back to Flagstaff, AZ and got back yesterday( Terrible Driving Conditions, but the front wheel drive Explorer did great!). I tried out the shifting to Neutral while going down hill and works quite well when you can use it. It is probably worth 2-4mpg with the Explorer. Also drive technique makes about 3-4mpg when comparing Prius Daughter and myself. LOL :) Paul

Got report back from Blackstone Labs on my oil sample. I guess we could compare it to others. :) If not big enough after clicking on report, click on options and then click on large. Paul

I would try a bottle of the NOS Octane Booster($10 at Walmart) with Premium (93 octane) Gas . I have about 60Kmi. on MADMAX ICE and I'm getting some of the best MPG's that I've ever gotten, still getting low 50's on a tank of gas. Close off all the grills, if you are worried you can setup MyView for empowered and temp gauge on the right side to monitor it. I think you will be impressed by the improvement. :) Paul

If the heat is turned on at all the ICE will come on, That's just the way it works until the ICE WT heats up. :) Paul

Plus 3 Golfer" The benefit gets back to added aero losses (coasting in neutral vs in gear) vs the regeneration penalty which is IMO more than most believe it is." I agree with you on this. I will keep trying this when it's convenient It takes to much effort to do it all the time. Going down the hills in Neutral, EV on flats and ICE up the hills, Basically P&G :) Paul

Welcome, There is a lot of info on this site. :) Paul

Well I've been trying it out on my 7-7.2mi. trips back and forth to work and home. I have seen an improvement in MPG's, this morning I started out side temp 47*F, garage temp 54*F, WT 110*F and SOC 34% and I ended up with 47.9mpg, usually I get 40 to 45mpg. :) Paul

If you have the heater on at all the ICE is going to come on. ;) Try starting with no Heater, you should be able to stay in EV until you hit 35mph or run out of HVB. Turn on EV+ and try to run down your HVB by the time you get home. :) Paul

It's not cold in Phoenix, LOL. Don't you have seat warmers? Is your CMAX an energy? Hybrids don't have electric heaters. The ICE shouldn't be coming on if you don't have the HVAC on. ;) Paul

Grill Cover Sets Available To Improve Winter MPG's
ptjones replied to ptjones's topic in Fuel Mileage
Yes that is problematic. LOL I made a LEXAN one but it is more trouble to install but I can open the hood. ;) Did you get your Grill Covers on? Paul -
I want to keep this thread active so new members can get quick info on what to do about cold temps and dropping MPG's. :) Paul

Here is a shorter thread: http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/5511-how-to-improve-winter-mpgs/ It talks about Oil Pan and ICE Block Heaters and Grill Covers that will make a big difference on short trips. :) Paul
-
I think I remember when I first got the CMAX that regenerative breaking captured up to 80% of the energy, so that sounds about right. I still feel awkward putting the car in Neutral and the added attention required to monitor that function. So maybe I could gain another 50miles per tank, It's just to much added work. we will see how it goes. :) Paul

Grill Cover Sets Available To Improve Winter MPG's
ptjones replied to ptjones's topic in Fuel Mileage
I would recommend taping up the Top Grill to minimize cold air getting into the ICE compartment, optimum IT is around 80-100*F. This morning with preheating ICE w/Oil Pan and Block Heaters to 110*F (only took 1/2 mile to get WT to 128*F) with outside temp 33*F. I only got to 48*F IT in seven miles with all Grills blocked off. Also I would recommend permanently attaching center Grill Cover for there is no good reason to remove it all year long. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Paul -

Has anyone got their Grill Covers yet? :) Paul -
Yesterday I plugged in my ICE Heaters(Block and Oil Pan) and in an hour it from WT 76 to 101*F, TFT 69 to 73*F, IT 73 to 83*F and a SOC of 33% I got 41mpg going 7mi. to work with OT64*F. Today I had Heaters on for 1 1/2hrs and WT went from 59 to 119*F, it took 1/2mi. to get up to 128*F. SOC was 45% and OT 39*F and I got 45mpg going to work. SOC does have significant impact mpg's along with WT. :) Paul
-
Just a reminder that the HVB SOC keeps going down when you are in N so at some point the ICE will come on which I don't think is efficient. I think the ICE needs to be moving the car and charging the HVB at the same time. IMO I don't feel right putting car in N and coasting. I have gotten to 68.3 MPG without doing it. ;) Paul

I had both 2008 and 2010 FEH's and was getting low 40's City and 30-35 HWY which was way better than ICE Escape, It was all about how you drive them. :) Paul
-
There is a very noticeable difference driving between an FEH and CMAX from my experience. ICE Charging is a lot faster in in CMAX. :) Frank I PM ed you. Paul
-
To my surprise it only took an half an hour to plugin my ICE Block Heater at the heater plug under the exhaust manifold, so I'm back to 575 Watts now. :) Paul

I will PM you when in the area Paul
