Tool for the third dimension - mapping route altitude
rtshinn replied to fbov's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Cold headwind uphill must be the worst. :) -
Nav was a big PIA for me, but they have worked out the bugs, and I suggest getting it.

This is why my FE sucks for half of my commute...

Fotomoto's Free DRL Mod
rtshinn replied to fotomoto's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors & Wipers
Not having DRL's as a user option is redonkulous. I've turned the headlights in the ON position to make up for it, and ran the battery down a couple of times because I forgot to turn them off. -

I won't pay for Sirius. Ok I'm cheap, but I don't like subscription services much at all, if I can avoid them. Just another financial hook. -
I installed the 2" Torklift on my Energi, and use it for an aluminum carrier. I drove it from Akron OH to Roanoke, VA that way with tools in the carrier. Worked great. I may try towing a lawnmower for a short distance (<1 mi) once a week. Not sure. I would have to buy a light kit if I did.

I slip my phone in the gap between the hand brake and the console. Fits just right. But yeah, very little storage. -
I upgraded last night while on a short trip. Everything went well. I did have to reconnect and sync my phone, but all of my Nav locations came through intact, as did my radio stations. I had to set the clock forward 1 hour.

My audio goes off once in a while, especially when the car has been sitting in the heat for a while. Think I need a new ACM?
-
Mine died today but I know for sure I left the headlights on overnight.

First car was a Green and White 1965 VW Bus.

Mine ended up being fixed by whatever TSB was required, and a new battery,

I had a Camry Hybrid and watched for a few years. It does become exhausting I don't watch that close anymore.

Ok, my theory is invalid. Dead battery again this AM. Dealer coming to get it in about 1/2 hour.
-
I did not hear it

DUH!!!!!!!!!!! Battery dead again this AM, but I think I may know what’s happening. Both times I went to Swenson’s Drive In to eat. After you finish eating you turn on your car headlights to get the server to take the tray. Last night for sure, I left the headlights in the ‘ON’ position. This morning after the car was dead, I looked at my Vehicle Settings on the left display and my Home Light setting was set to Manual, which means that the lights won’t turn off automatically. Don’t know if I accidentally set them that way or if it was reset during the 3.5.1 upgrade. Who knows. I’m going to watch and see how it behaves after this and let you know. I have a battery jumper I can take with me that works fine to get it started.

Well, my Energi was dead this morning. I ended up driving my truck to work. I was too concerned about getting to work to give it much thought. I have a call in to the dealer, but I'll jump it when I get home. The bad/good news is this didn't show up until just now. I've had the car since Feb 2nd. That means whatever the failure mode is, it can occur at any time.

I tried copying my SD card to see if it would work. No dice.
-
That is good news. I may call my dealer back to see if they will do it.

Could you ever go back to a gas engine only car?
rtshinn replied to catsailor's topic in General Discussion
If onlybecause of the stop/start technology I couldn't go back to a regular gas vehicle. I would be highly annoyed with an engine running while I was waiting at a stop light. What a waste!!!! -
I better get a 3.5.1 update

Installing The Torklift Central Hitch
rtshinn replied to ArizonaEnergi's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
Ok, finally installed my Torklift 2" hitch. Went fairly smoothly for a one person install. The instastruction sheets were ok, but man the pictures were very crappy. It really doesn't matter because it's so simple, once you are under there if you can't figure out what to do, you shouldn't be under the car. lol Pulled the car up on two ramps, and used two jack stands to hold the hitch close to the car while installing. Made a couple of minor goofs. 1. Started screwing in the driver's side when I realized I forgot about the muffler hanger staring me in the face 2. One center bolt was cross threading, but I was able to take it out and get it started properly 3. I bought a torque wrench specifically for this install, but none of my 13 mm sockets fit it, and I had no adapters that would work. Since it was getting dark, I ended up tightening them up as best I could. I'll get an adapter and go back and check them later.... really... I'm sure it took less than an hour to do. -

I'll be down there and at Smith Mountain Lake Memorial day weekend. Any charging stations near Salem?
