Thx for the great climate control tips. I will have to try those. I did notice a big difference between 69 and 65 deg F. Never tried 60.

Interesting, not sure if I have been putting my foot on the brake or not when I start. I am out of town and have a VW which requires you to have your foot on the brake to start. i did not do that the first few times so I am thinking that I don't do that when I start my SE at home. I will have to try that when I get back. I have not had the light come on. I will also have to look at the temperature gauge too. I have been using this but don't remember the color changing on warm up. Learn something new every day. This link might help. I had to look too. http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/3552-2013-c-max-where-is-temp-gauge/?hl=%2Btemperature+%2Bgauge

This is a very different vehicle for cold weather driving. I am not one to warm up vehicles. Mileage on my xB maybe dropped from 30 to 29 or 28 in cold weather. It mainly was not the cold, it was the snow. It is hard to drive through snow so the mileage went down. Now I did expect the C-Max to drop but there are a few things I learned that I did not expect: Keeping in EV mode, as was posted here, keeping it in EV mode with the heater on seems to lower the threshold for tuning on ICE. Temp in the cabin seems good, fan speed down with it on Auto so I don't understand why sometimes it goes in EV but barely touch the pedal and ICE is running again. I turn off the heater and the lower threshold is gone. It does seem to be part of the warm up cycle though because a longer drive time stops this from happening. Engine on due to cold but only sometimes. I can sometimes get the car going and the ICE will start (Heater off). Other times I can do the same thing and the ICE will not start at all until I drain the battery. I don't think this is related to SOC as I think it happens with a full charge. Now once the ICE does run it will go through the normal warm up cycle. I have had short trips in the upper 20's MPG but have found on longer trips that the FE is not affected that much by lower temperatures. I drove over 30 miles the other day in the city with pretty cold temperatures and still got 47 MPG. Sure i can probably get 60 in warm weather but 47 is more than I thought I would get. Outside temp was about 10 degrees or so. I am not complaining here, just a few things I am trying to understand. On the other hand I wondered if I could do the heated seats only thing with no cabin heat. At first I did not think so but I found that the seat heaters work great and I have no problem going without heat for the first part of the trip. Sometime on short runs I do not use cabin heat at all. I do wish there was a way to run the fan without heat. WIndows do sometimes fog up.

Great Post. Thx for sharing this. I have seen some of the videos but not all of them. I also did not know that these were made in the U.S.

I take this as stating that anything that is gasoline only with no start/stop tech vs anything else. It also states sales in 2017 so the cars already on the road are not part of this percentage. With so many vehicles coming out with some kind of tech, I think this could happen. But then again with gas under $2 a gallon, that could change sales too.

Welcome to the club from another SE owner. I agree, I love the heated seats so much. I do play around with the cabin heat somewhat to try to get the battery drained before turning on the heat. Without the heated seats I would not even try that. Helps that it is kept in a garage too. Today was 7 degrees when I drove in and was able to get 41 MPG. But sometimes I see it in the 30's and last night had a 3 mile run that was 29 MPG. That was an uphill run though. Total average is now at 46 MPG. It is a very fun car to have. Congrats.

Not sure what post you are referring to but in general the transmission is left in "D" and not move to neutral. I coast in mine when I can. You always loose some energy when moving energy around so a slower coast to a traffic light is more efficient than driving up faster and using the regen to capture the energy. It might say 100% recaptured but there are some losses. I hope this answers your question.

MADMAX New Record, 918mi/ 13.5gal and 68MPG, 72%EV, 28%ICE

Congrats on the great FE. Interesting that you can get fuel with no ethanol in it. I have not seen it here. Temperatures here are going down to single digits tonight and looks like a cold week. My FE is doing good now if I get 40's and once in a while a 50 MPG thrown in there. Looking forward to warmer temps and better FE but I don't even see the light at the end of the tunnel yet. -
Welcome and congrats. From one SE owner to another and also my first hybrid. I am really having fun with it. I am sure you will too. Did you get any options?

Thx for the info. Funny, We were just talking about how to do this because Santa brought us a SD card. We use Media Monkey and did not know you could import playlists. We did want to play certain album songs in order and that was not happening. I think the playlist will take care of that . Thx again

C-Max vs a king size bed
scottwood2 replied to scottwood2's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
Sorry, I did not take any pics. I should have. -
I ended up going to look at a king size bed (Full frame with footboard) and hauling it back in the C-Max. I love the versatility of a hatchback. I have hauled a lot of stuff in these and the C-Max is no exception. The C-Max is tall and fairly long compared to my last car (Scion xB). I knew this would be a lot to haul but I thought i would try it. This was the first big haul so it was a good test to see what it could do. The plan was to use the passenger seat area to get the length and my partner would ride in the back on the way home. This kind of worked but I thought we could leave up the small seat in the back for him to sit. the headboard was just too big and would only lay down. This is a low bed but I guess not as low as I thought. The back seats folded up nice and flat. On the Scion I would have to remove the head rests to clear the front seats when folding them down. The C-Max folds the headrests so there was no problem here. The front seat was a different story. I had never tried to work with this for folding it down but it was clear that it was not designed for such a purpose. They don't fold forward much at all so they will not go flat. They do recline but not anywhere as much as I would like. The seat back is really just in the way and is a lot in the way. The plastic latches for the headrest on the front seat are right where you slide things over. We had to pad this area to keep it from scratching the headboard. The whole bed did fit. Rob did have to sit on top of the back seat for the trip back but we made it work. Amazing what you can haul in a hatchback. The C-Max did a great job and if the front seat was designed a little better it would be perfect. The Scion xB would allow you to fold the front seat back so it was flat and gave you a flat surface with the rear seat too. Kind of made into a bed. Even if they folded forward flat like some minivans do would be a great improvement. Maybe something for the next replacement for the C-Max. Oh and I got 54 MPG on the way home too! :)

Looks like I posted this twice. I did not see it in the new content list so I assumed I forgot to save it. Maybe I should have made a new post?

Hi Everyone. Santa brought me a OBDII reader and the Torque App for Android. I see a lot of talk about bringing in custom code to get some of the other meters going. Just wondering if anyone has made a profile for the C-Max to use as a plugin? I can play around and add the extra meters but I thought why reinvent the wheel if there is a plugin for this. I see a lot of other cars listed but i don't think I seen any Fords. Thx
-
Santa brought me a OBDII reader and the Torque app. I have some of the basic gages setup but there seems to be many more that are not standard. I did look in plug ins and I see many car brands/models listed but nothing for Ford C-Max. Is there anyway to load the additional information needed for these extra non-standard gauges or do I have to add these each by hand?
-
I am not far from the plant that makes the C-Max. I wish I could stop by and grab the part for you. I sure would think that there is a way to get this part somehow. Not sure why they would not sell it if it is needed? Maybe someone here from Ford can help you out. Good luck.

Sounds awesome.

yes, I think it was the vacuum pump that I normally hear.
-
I tried it and a pump did come on after 7 presses of the brake pedal. I tried it a second time and it did not come on until I turned the key to the on position. I also noticed that I hear a clunk sound when I open the door. Sounds like it is trying to turn on a pump but it does not turn on. It is going in on Friday and we will see what they find. Thx for the replys

Thx for the reply. I think I either did not explain what is happening well or I am missing something here. I understand the system and a lot of pumps etc having to be electric. I have heard a pump go off when I open the door for since the car was new. You said it is the brake actuator pump, that would make sense to me. What does not make sense to me is the fact that I don't hear this pump anymore. I started hearing noises that sounded like a bad pump to me and now it is always silent. I think when you said "there is nothing wrong", you were referring to hearing a pump when i open the door and not the fact that this sound being gone now? Please clarify. Thx PS is it possible for this pump to be bad and not get an warning that dealer service is needed? Thx again and I really like the support we get here!
-
Talked to one of my co-workers who owns a C-Max too. He said he hears this pump or something running under the hood all the time when he opens the drivers door. I called the dealer and made an appointment to take it in. He asked me if I would normally hear the pump only first thing in the AM or every time. I think it is every time but I am not sure now. I know I hear it in my garage in the AM but I think I have heard it other times as well.
-
Thx for the reply. This pump has been very noticeable until now. I showed the car to someone at the house and as soon as he opened the door the pump started and he said right away "what is that?". Maybe it became more broke in and is quiet now. This is usually in my garage so it is pretty quiet in there. Maybe I should go to the dealer and listen to other C-Max's.

Hi everyone Just wondering if anyone knows what device this is? I have noticed since day one that when I open my drivers door after the car has been off for some time that there is a noise like a pump starting up. It seems to build up pressure or something and stops making noise. This takes about 5 seconds or so. I have noticed from time to time that it does not sound healthy and makes a strange noise that changes during this 5 seconds or so. I was thinking maybe the fuel pump but I could be wrong. the noise comes from the engine compartment area. Now the noise is completely gone. Car is still working fine, I think. It has been about a week now. I don't see anything that does not seem normal. Any ideas on what this noise is? Thx
