Mesh pocket located on Passenger Side (Cell phone pocket)
scottwood2 replied to caseya21's topic in Interior
I did not think of that but I am always looking for a place to put mail that I need to drop off at a mail box. Good place to put it and it is in sight so I don't forget about it. What was i writing about now? -
part-load moaning groaning noise - seasonal?
scottwood2 replied to djc's topic in General Discussion
Mine has been doing this also but I feel that harmonic vibration is very damaging and I try to change my accelerator position to make this go away. Some said it has to do with the noise canceling system in the car. Either way I like to do what I can to keep it from happening. It does not take much for it to be gone. -

OK, I also have a 2014 with cloth seats. I keep forgetting to look to see if it is there. Could be useful but as you said I never really noticed it. -
I am a tech guy too and that was a big factor in getting the C-Max. I think the tech is cool and fun to figure out how the whole system works and how to get the best FE. I am not a big gamer but I think it is fun to see how well I do on every drive. Funny my other half is a gamer and whats nothing to do with the FE game on the car. Sometimes I wonder just how do you get FE scores so low when I look at the MPG from the last drive after he has drove it. :drop:

I just changed mine at 10,100 mile. I had 2% oil life left when I changed it. No lights ever came on. The spec I think it 10K miles but changing it sooner is always OK too. Your call on that one. You are so close anyway it really does not matter that much. I think I would change it ASAP if the light was on.

Just did the oil change today. It went well. Did find out that starting the car while holding down the gas pedal will only start the car for about 5 seconds. I found out that I can hold down the brake and the throttle and it will stay running.

Darn, I don't get that magazine. Maybe I should respond to one of the 2000 mailings I have received for AARP membership since turning 50.

Isn't this part of the 8 yr warranty?
-
I had to look this one up. CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) I would only think this route is better if they extend the warranty. If not I think it is more just something to sell cars

I have an SE with MFT. After an update to MFT I had the same issue. Dealer had to reprogram the car and I think there is a TSB on this. Mine happened the same day as the update.

I like newer and less miles too. For $1500 I would do the 2014. The roof depends on what you want. That is an expensive option.

I was thinking the same thing before I purchased mine. All the problems listed had me thinking twice about the purchase. Then I started looking around other car sites. Both the Prius and the Volt had a long list of problems stated too. My conclusion is that people post problems and they all have some issues. Most people that don't have an issue never say that. Sure some do on this site and others but most just enjoy the car and never even come to the forum unless they have an issue. I have had a few issues with mine but I also did with my highly rated Scion xB too. I am glad I decided to buy it. It is a fun car.

Welcome from another black 2014 C-Max SE owner. Would love to come visit your area some day! It is on my short list of places to visit.

I tried the new technique last night. I did 5 stops (trips) and tried to keep the car from charging the battery while I was accelerating. It felt really strange and kind of the opposite from what I have been driving. So this produced much shorter bursts of power keeping ICE off a whole lot more but my battery was not being charged much. The recharge mainly came from decel and braking. Once I was up to speed (above speed) I would go to elec and try to just keep the down arrow on. This works pretty well most of the time and I am always surprised how this little amount of power pushes the car. If the speed would drop too far down I would use ICE to quickly bring the speed back up. Usually after 10 MPH drops. This depends on traffic too. I almost stopped doing this about half way to my 1st stop as it just did not feel right. I really thought my FE was going to suck but I decided to stick it out to see what happens. To my surprise i did almost 56 MPG. I mainly get upper 40's / low 50's going home and this was a totally different route so I had no comparison but I did not expect anywhere near this FE. I continued the other legs of the trips and did even better. Some in the 60's and even one at 72 MPG (short trip 2 miles). Coming into work this morning I did 55 MPG. My old technique would do this and sometime into the 60's but there is not much traffic but a lot of lights so avg speed is way lower. I really did not focus on the RPM much other than to try to keep the battery from being charged by ICE. It was hard to do sometime and would still charge at over a 3 bar burn but again at this acceleration ICE is not on very long. I was also surprised by how much the decel and braking recharged the battery. My SOC gauge was low on the scale most of the time but it was enough to keep the car moving most of the time without starting ICE to charge. Thx for the tip and my other half appreciates the speedier drive as well :)

Based on the poll here on this site SEL models do/did have these issues too. I think the newer the car is the less likely to have the issue. Also note that SE models with 202A or higher packages have a very low issue count as well. I am very happy with mine. We have 3 of them at work and everyone I talked to are happy with the car. http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/1294-for-those-who-have-had-12v-battery-problems/?mode=show

Interesting. I will have to play around with that technique. I guess it does make sense as there is always a loss when converting energy. I mainly try to use ICE to accelerate and charge the battery. I use that to get above the speed limit and then go to elec mode just so it gives a little power . The pulse and glide technique. In the city I can get 50 to 60 or more MPG with this. Now if I have a high SOC then I accelerate quickly to get to a point I can glide again. It will be fun to try this new technique to see how it compares for my driving style. Thx for the explanation of this technique.

I don't understand why you would want to keep the battery from being recharged while accelerating if the SOC is low? That is when I try to accelerate slower if I can so I can charge and get up to speed at the same time.

Welcome. It is a fun car. Only bad thing is that I think I find reasons to make longer trips now just so I can drive more. No, we don't want to go to dinner at the restaurant near the house. The one downtown sounds better. :yahoo:

Ford to idle 700 workers where the C-Max is made.
scottwood2 replied to scottwood2's topic in General Discussion
That is what I found when I ran the numbers too. It was hard to justify the extra cost of the energy. Kind of the same thing I found when I was thinking of a diesel truck. The extra cost up front, increased maintained cost and fuel cost just did not add up to me for purchasing that option. -
Good point. I would have thought that any car coming into the dealer would have a flag go off if there is a TSB on it but I guess this is not always the case.

Cheap gas prices make it hard to sell high FE cars. GM is in the news about this too. http://patch.com/michigan/dearborn/ford-idle-700-workers-0?utm_source=alert-breakingnews&utm_medium=email&utm_term=jobs&utm_campaign=alert
