Averaging about 50 mpg in the 6 weeks of ownership. Weekends I do more freeway driving and get mostly in the upper 40's. Weekdays is mostly city and get 52 to 58 most of the time. Funny sometimes I try to watch what I do to get better mpg and sometimes I don't. I sometimes don't see much difference in results. Small trips are all over the place. I have driven 3 miles and did over 100 mpg but it is more downhill. Others have been in the 20's because the ICE was on more.

Buying used 2013 C-Max vs. new (or used) 2014?
scottwood2 replied to Denverdavo's topic in General Discussion
Thx for the great post. Stating to stay away from an SE is very difficult thing to say based on the survey results. In fact I think the SE with equipment group 202 or 203 had less issues than an the SEL's. The survey does not take into account the number of owners so it is hard to compare. I ended up buying a new SE with the 202A group. So far so good. Good luck on your decision. -
Not a fan of Snow tires here. Never had them on any of the vehicles. Most were front wheel drive but many 2 wheel drive pickups too. I do have posi-traction on the truck but no added weight. I get through 99% of any winter conditions. Really bad snow (10 inch or more) and I mainly just stay home for the day. I am in a Detroit suburb. Maybe if I was more in the country I would do something different. Torque is what is important in the snow. This is my first winter coming up here with the Max. Electric motors have great torque so I think this car will be better than any other I have owned. We will see. Good luck. I would be interested hearing about your FE with the new tires/wheels too.

New Costco Tire Rotation/Nitrogen Program
scottwood2 replied to ScubaDadMiami's topic in Wheels & Tires
Good to know Costco offers this service. I like Costco a lot and shop there regularly. I am not loyal to any company but I must say that Discount Tire is the exception to the rule for me. I have no connections to this company but they have been absolutely incredible for me. They offer free tire rotations period. Take any car in there and they rotate them. Does not matter where you bought them. I don't think they offer nitrogen if that is what you want. First thing they did for me was my boat trailer tires. Wanted new tires for vacation. They did not have what I wanted in stock. They put on a new set of tires for the trip at no charge because they said they wanted me to have a save trip and the old tires were not in very good shape due to age. When I came back from the trip they changed them out to what I wanted with no additional charge for the tires used on the trip. I also purchased tires for my xB and after about a year, while I was getting them rotated, we talked and I told him I did not like the tires and would not buy them again. He said we want our customers happy and gave me a full refund on the tires (after a year) to go towards a new set of tires. I had to eat the price of the balancing but that was more than fair. Their prices always seem good too. I know I sound like a salesman but I like this company that much that I don't mind giving them a plug here. -
I wonder about the value in these systems too. My 08 truck has them and the sensors need to be replaced. It is $240 for the 4 sensors. I am having a tough time deciding on wither I should replace these or not. My other half drive this and I don't know how many times I have been told, "oh BTW the light is on for low tire pressure". When I ask how long I usually here "oh I don't know at least a few weeks now". I have many times noticed this by looking by eye at the tires and find out that the warning has been on but I did not know about it. Then there was another time that the dash told me that the rear tires were low. I filled them up and it still said that it was low so we thought something was wrong and just lived with it. Some time later I decided to check the front tires with a gauge because they looked kind of low. Sure enough, they were low and when I filled them up the rear pressure warning went away. When they rotated the tires they did not reprogram the sensors. Guess it would be good to have everything working again but this seems like a lot of money to replace these for another 6 to 8 years. It is kind of nice though that the truck actually tells me the pressure in each tire. The idea is to save fuel by having these but I wonder how many people ride around with these lights on because they still don't bother to fill up the tires. I think I will check my tires on the Max tonight as well. Thx for the post.

Breaking news...the glass ceiling has been broken, 901 miles tank.
scottwood2 replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Fuel Mileage
Pretty incredible numbers and dedication to get those great MPG numbers. Congratulations and keep it going. -
Agree 100%. Also if I am on the same route, knowing what portions of the route to build up battery charge also helps. I don't know if it makes a difference but I also like to keep the ICE on for a while if I can vs. getting a little charge, go into EV mode and repeat. For example, I have a section of road that has a few hills. I am usually a little low on charge at this point on my route so I go down and up the first hill on ICE. Then I have a better charge state and I can finish the next hill (down and up) and the rest of the 1 mile stretch on EV. I could use EV to go down both hills and ICE to go up both but this way the ICE only runs once for a longer time. I can get 50 to 60 MPG most of the time now in the city. Probably 54 is about average. I still have a hard time on the freeway. Maybe get mid 40's at best. Still trying different things.

Maxus get a acrylic rear spoiler

Thx for the update. Any pics? How did it look? I would like to see what it looked like. -
Maybe a very minor data point here. 2014 built in February, bought in September. 1k miles so far with no problems. I did find the cover off the connection point under the hood for jump starting the car. The car did sit on the lot for quite a while so maybe that was why? Maybe an update fixed it or maybe the plant just forgot to put the cap on. Who knows. Just keeping my fingers crossed. I love the car so far.

Black rims and grill complete
scottwood2 replied to scottwood2's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Yeah, I guess you are never really done. -
Hi everyone and thx again to many here for the tips and sharing the Plasti-dip experience. My Max now has a black grill and rims. The grill has one coat of glossifier on it and the wheels are just straight Plasti-dip. I love how it turned out. I did have some problems with taping off the open areas of the grill and the paint lines where its was masked do show. Not sure what to do with this? My thoughts are to either touch it up by painting the area that were missed by brush or getting thinner and removing the Plasti-dip in that area. As long as the lines are clean I think either of these should work. Not sure what others have done with masking this area off? Anyway, We drove to Detroit and I took some photos near the old train station here. What a change to the look of the car. I really like the new look.

Very cool. Looking forward to playing with this. I think Santa is going to bring me a scanner and Torque software.

Thx did the replies. I did want to use the plasti-dip cleaner but I want to do this today and can't find it locally. I did buy degreaser/dewaxer and might use that. I Also have thinner.

Just wonder what everyone has been using to prep the wheels for plasti-dip? Any special cleaners? Car is almost new so it should not be too bad but I don't know what coatings are there from the factory that could be an issue. Thx
