really interesting Paul, 909 miles round trip? Glad your home safe.

WAB, no I didnt see that site...thank you

I think your right Frank after repeatedly looking over and over at both pics. The front rubber seal does seem longer and taller.

I checked on the rear window deflectors right after I saw them on a 2014 CMax in January. The parts guy had no record of them on his parts list computer screen. Probably part of the rear window assembly which means probably can't buy them without buying the whole glass? But even under rear window assembly there was no mention of them.

Found this spoiler on the web designed and mounted on a Euro CMax by a auto tuner in Germany named Loder1899. Lists it for $219US. But I can't find any contact info with them to see about having one shipped to California. This is all I've wanted to try and design myself. They made it out of urethane so why should I bother any further trying to make my own. Now if I could just contact them?

Dang wish I could remember it better. Where do you find it? I might could find an equivalent here on the west bank? Is it workable, meaning trim-able, sand-able? I wonder if it can be had in thick pieces, say 1 inch or more?

Been seeing 45mpg readings the last couple days on trip2 :happy feet:

Paul, hard foam? whats that all about? Very curious.

Ok after a little research I've decided to get the styrofoam in the quantity I would need for this project would be way too cost prohibitive so I'm thinking about shelving the idea unless someone else has a better idea?

Thanks for the thoughts and encouragement, we"ll see what happens in the days-weeks ahead. I'm not real sure of the securing method to the factory bumper/fascia. I guess I have to see how secure it will be to mount in place of the plastic pieces that are on Maxus from the factory. If it is pretty secure I might opt with using an industrial grade gel adhesive from 3M which I have used extensively with the mounting of my first set of AeroPods. Once they are stuck on they really aren't going anywhere without using a little force. I haven't tried to remove the factory black plastic pieces yet to know how they are connected.

Ok here's an update on my next attempt at a front air dam. I've been researching on the net about using relatively inexpensive Styrofoam to shape and fabricate intricate shapes. My plan as of now is to venture into a project where I have very little experience, but feel I can be successful in the end. Fortunately here in my town there is a store called TAP Plastics which can supply me with the necessary materials and knowledge to do this project. I plan to attach blocks of Styrofoam under the front bumper/fascia. I will remove the black plastic pieces Ford attached under each fog light. This will be part of the area where my design will attach to the front bumper/fascia. I plan to design this so it will reduce the amount of air traveling under the car while still allowing enough clearance for things like driveways, parking stops, and curbs. The likes of what tore off my first air dam yesterday. In my head and through my internet research I should be able to shape the styrofoam into a form fitting spoiler along the shape of the front bumper/fascia. Once that is done to my satisfaction. I will lay fiberglass over the styrofoam to form a negative mold. Once dry the whole creation will be removed from Maxus and I will use acetone to melt away the styrofoam leaving the fiberglas negative of my design. Next step is to prep the fiberglas with gel-coat so the positive spoiler will be smooth in appearance which will be made from polyurethane and painted to match Maxus as close as possible. Like I said sounds good when I read it but can I do it? I don't have allot of experience working with composites or or polymers. So this could succeed or fail with the cost of materials and my time being wasted. If it works I will have a mold to make more copies if anyone likes what I have created.

Well sorry to say that the Air Dam got torn off today in a parking incident. I was parking in a parking space with no tire stop and ran into the curb stop which was high enough that it ripped the air dam completely off. I will have to improve the mounting points to the CMax plastic undercarriage to prevent this from happening again after it is remounted.

I strongly agree with Apple there wouldn't be these problems. :happy feet: -
Thule racks with panoramic roof
mtb9153 replied to valkraider's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
thanks for posting these pics, nice to know there is a way to get additional storage if desired up on the pano roof. This would be very desirable for Energi owners since you loose cargo space with your taller batter pack. -
Yes it is the REAL plus about this product, color your ride to suit your mood.

Got up to 53mpg on trip 2 Thursday during my commute in the 35-40mph range. Maybe there is something to do with the fact that we were at 70*? At any rate I can live with those numbers  and still no rain in the south bay.

that's what I'd like to know. My MFT was totally wigged out today. Rebooted itself then screen went black and came back up after a long boot then I had nothing from my iphone or the radio. None of the buttons would do anything. The right screen which shows the leaves was unresponsive as well. Made a stop at the bank came back out and everything seemed fine except still I had unresponsive buttons but at least I had tunes. Microsoft piece of crap, I'll take an any day

That is not a problem in fact the vendor who makes his business selling this product at www.dipyourcar.com describes doing this in their DIY instructional video's. I did it on my CMax and no problems with hurting the tires. Comes right off with a little rubbing and makes prep work allot easier on wheels since you don't have to tape off the tire before painting.

Thanks Frank I plan to, swim/snorkel with the dolphins shoot some underwater video with my GoPro. Lounge on the beach with the wife and order drinks with funny little paper umbrella's and eat plenty of Macadamia's. And pay my respects to the U.S.S Arizona Memorial ICK -6*F dang that's cold so very sorry that the earth seems to be punishing the rest of the country. Even my relatives in East Texas are having the white stuff.

Rebecca I can certainly delete both from each other but that means I can't take calls hands free so I'll have to find my ear piece and use that during the test.
-
Yes after I get back from Hawaii on the 24th. Got to relax a bit since I've been designing so much stuff lately

Rebecca, I have the most recent software installed. I could try turning off Auto Phonebook download along with WiFi and see if it helps any? No I haven't addressed this issue with my dealer (Frontier Ford). I need to take my car in for the door chime recall and I will ask them to check into this problem, but I think in might be incompatibility with iPhone 5

xSZYDx I would suggest just covering the fenders to prevent overspray and cover the center cap with the Ford logo unless you want to cover it up. Nice thing about Plasti-dip is if you want to uncover the paint on the center cap you can do so by taking an x-acto blade and with the pointed tip gently dig into the plasti-dip after it is fully dry of course. Just enough that you can start pulling the dip off the cap working from the center outward to the edge where it press fit into the wheel. The joint between the wheel and the cap will actually allow a clean edge around the circumference of the hole in the wheel. I'm not sure if it will help any but you might could try putting plastic or newspaper over the front of the calipers and the rotor coming in from behind the wheel if there is enough clearance to get your fingers in there to lay plastic or newspaper. You would need to raise the car so you could get underneath. I have some ramps made of tough plastic which I bought at PepBoys and I've seen them at AutoZone which might be in your area of Phoenix. By placing them in front of the wheel you can drive up the ramp and raise the front enough to get underneath. I did this when I was building my new front air dam which I wrote about in the modifications portion of the forum.. The nice thing about plasti-dip is you can afford to get sloppy and spray all the way out to the edge of the rubber and in fact I suggest purposely spraying an inch or so beyond on the rubber so the paint builds up to the same thickness you are laying down on the wheel. I didn't do that and it was much harder to take your finger and rub to roll the overspray off the rubber and then pull an edge over to the wheel for a clean cut edge. Hope all of what I've shared will help with the process? Feel free to privately send me a message

Ok here is the first picture of my newly designed rear spoiler. This was a challenging project to get a flat piece of acrylic plastic to conform to the curvature of the rear window glass. The 5 acrylic standoffs which are plastic cemented to the underside for support using a clear liquid solvent which through a chemical reaction actually bonds the two plastic surfaces by softening both to form one. There was allot of work grinding them at the proper angle to fit between the spoiler and the painted surface of the rear tailgate below the glass. The leading edge of the spoiler fits in the gap between the glass and the painted metal of the tailgate. Each standoff is stuck to the paint with industrial grade 3M gel adhesive tape. Will hold 20pounds of weight and this spoiler doesn't come even close to weighing that much. Not sure if this will do much for MPG? Could even possibly cause some drag, but I hope not. I did it mostly for curb appeal and to try and clean up the rear bumper by moving the airflow a little different angle off the back the rear end. We'll see what happens in the miles heads ahead.
