  1. Don't u wish for the good ole days where we just put on the heating or AC on just BECAUSE its cold or hot? Reading all these posts here and acting like a real scrooge by not using the car's amenities just cause I want to save the battery level or push that 1 more MPG. C'mon, brand new car....no heating....no AC....picture does not seem right, lol. Sometimes our other half is right to drive with us so we restore some sanity into our comfort or go the speed limit.
  2. Congratulations! I did the same as well except I clayed my CMax and then applied some Klasse paint sealant followed with some nice Meguire wax. Still looks beautiful till now. Enjoy the car and don't worry about the MPGs - this car takes a some time to "open up" for better MPGs.
  3. Ha!!!! Luv that story - thanks for the laughs JulieB!
  4. Good stuff! I get spurts like that when I drive to the gym, its a 12 mile run 90% freeway basically a slow downhill. However, coming back, you're going up the hill and its pay back time - usually around 36mpg...but I did use the NAV a bit now so when I do a "destination home" using the "eco-route" from the gym back to my place, I am getting back 39-42MPGs because its mainly 35-50mph streets and its a gentle upslope or predominantly flat. Those with the NAV - go the "eco route". Here's a crazy stat from today's drive: This was a run from Encino Hills to North Hollywood mid valley. Here's the route: It's downhill from A to the Ventura and then it's "allegedly" flat from Ventura Blvd to B. Personally, I was stunned by the reading. Mind you, I had a full battery by the time I got to Ventura so there must be something there to push this car along to those mileage. Typically my batts are mid to low level.
  5. darrelld - this all smells like politics in washington dude. Funny how that translate to the car speak world as well. if you follow some other forums, they are now saying Ford has no right to compare to the V, whatever, its just a freaking ad. It doesn't matter, anyone who has 1/2 brain and test drive a Prius and then test drive a V knows which car is superior in terms of handling, steering feel, seating and more FUN with better MPGs.
  6. Add ".MP4" as not being played in the CMax infotainment system also. Long live the 320bit MP3.
  7. A decent CD to MP3 ripper will also do a ".m3u". The ".m3u" are the playlists files that the CMax does search, index and recognize. Normally, the ripper will dump all the files and the .m3u file into the same directory. You can create as many ".m3u" files as you want. I had a ton of IZ CDs which I have dumped into 1 directory and I have multiple .m3u files by album. Also, these MP3 also have "meta tags". Meta tags allow additional information like albums, track#, year etc to be associated with that song in the MP3 file. Again, if the ripper does the job, it will also fill up these meta tags and you can then use the play by album feature in the MyTouch. But yeah, not having a CD that works s*cks, it should not be but given how cheap the CD player mechanism now, perhaps too cheap. By the way, CD/DVD players also fail in PCs all the time, its not exclusively in cars. I also have SACDs but those discs are going into my high end DVD+blah+blah player in my home theatre. The Max does a "we're not worth...we're not worth".
  8. They're credibility is SHOT by doing this silly change. However, a site like mpgomatic where there is conclusive videos that the CMax is capable of > 40MPG on the highway is gaining strength.
  9. I think FoutsNC is calling it right, my impression is that the TONS of Prius owning posters out there want this car to just plain fail. The war has begun... :runaway: On the flipside, this car needs time and mileage before it really begins to open up. Personally, I am seeing slowly improving MPGs as well but golly-gosh, this car has made see the roads differently now - flat is no longer flat and watching the falling Fs in the outside temperature gauge and cringing at the low MPGs that is coming at the end of the trip. Speaking of which - here is an interesting testing (sorry if this link has been posted before) from the same folks at MPG-O-Matic: http://www.mpgomatic.com/2012/12/13/2013-ford-c-max-hybrid-gas-mileage-testing-notes/ He's about the best and most practical reviews I am seeing so far for the CMax.
  10. I was seriously not going to get the MyTouch Nav for Max, thinking that a $200 GPS would suffice. However, it came with the car deal so I am now really luving it. On the Navigator side, this is what I am finding: Pros: 1. Huge, huge 8" screen. Beats anything out there in the mobile GPS. easy to see and read. 2. I LUV the fact that it gives you the 3 route options to the destination. Today, i went to the gym and normally the trip back would chew around 36MPGs. However, I thought I would try and NAV and use the eco route. It took a little longer but I burnt 40MPGs coming back. However, I did not check how much gas I used though since a lower MPG may be worse but if it burnt less than the higher MPG - more investigation needed. 3. "Show Weathermap" - how cool is that!!!! Cons: A. For some route, I seem to be driving on the side of the road according to the map, in 3D mode. Its funny. B. Refresh, not the fastest for sure but I can live with it. C. No free map updates and how long is the traffic update going to last?!? If Garmin and the other GPS can do these free updates for their $200 or less mobile GPS models, why can't Ford? Hmmmh... D. My old Jag nav always remember the last 20 destinations. This one doesn't seem to - not sure if I am looking in the right directory or folder but I have not found my old destinations yet. I have not tried the destination download using the syncmyride app yet but it's next. It sounds hot, just gotta find the time. So, for now, after actual use of the MyTouch and the Navigator, I actually think it was worth the money especially the different route options you can choose to get to your destination.
  11. Ha...a "CD" sounds like an "LP" now...for the traditionalist. I'm done with the CDs, just converted everything to MP3 and dump it into a USB drive. Get yourself one of those tiny USB thumb drives and stick that beast in there with a play list. 16gb contains a LOT of CD and can be had for $15.
  12. Super...great info! Happy New Year ptjones!
  13. Congratulations and welcome to the club and enjoy this site...lots and lots of great tips from real owners. Nice New Years present to boot as well ;)
  14. Will the real CMaxP&G please stand up... It seems there could be 2 variations of the P&G. As I see it and understand it, it revolves around whether to use the EV as part of the P&G or not. As well, the way our CMaxs work, some technique will regen the batteries in the Pulse phase or not. So heres what I understand thus far: 1. Utilize the EV. Pulse to 70 and let it glide down to 63 and then kick in EV and ride it out as much as possible until the battery drains to a point where it cannot sustain speeds to 58mph. Then pulse back to 70 and repeat. The nuance here are in the pulse phase: a) accelerate as fast as possible. Pros: get up to pulse speed ASAP Cons: no battery recharge so your EV glide is limited and becomes shorter and shorter as the batts do not get a decent amount of charge time as no braking. b) steady but slow acceleration (keeping the up arrow over the battery in the pulse phase) to the end of the pulse speed. Pros: constant recharge Cons:more burn on the gas. Which is better a) or b) - I honestly do not know yet. But to charge the batteries for the EV glide, I have to go with b) and sometimes I just use eco-cruise to recharge. Its a lot of work for sure. 2. Theres another variation of P&G where they talk of no even engaging the EV at all. Now, let me say, this could be formulated specifically for the Prius and they way that car shuts off the gas engine at some lower point. As I understand it and I've tried this once, you aim for an average speed of 67mph so you pulse up to 75 or 80mph and let it glide down to about 63mph. No EV at all so forgetaboutit. I've had mixed results with one. One time I got 40.1MPG and another 31.3MPG. The 40.1 was a longer trip and warmer temps. That 31.3MPG was a shocker but me thinks I did not go over past 75mph peak. I wish it was more scientific but nope. My question here to this forum's P&G expert - what is your technique or the P&G that you use?
  15. Hey, thanks for the tip! I did find it, its on page 291under maintenance. I will try it out!
  16. Thats quite a jump from a 4x4 to a FWD vehicle. The difference is you have better traction, naturally, when going up hill where or when it started to dump than our FWD or RWD vehicles which would have to put on and use chains. As long as you know your limitations with the single wheel drives in the snow and smart enough to use the chains when the conditions call for it instead of being head strong, you'll be fine. It doesn't sound like this is the 1st time you've seen snow, so you're cool. Done, 1600 res. Enjoy. I also added some extra pics.
  17. I would be interested to see what tires are fitted to your C-Max. Do they even come delivered with the snow tires? Given those temps, the ptjones thread should be studied and see if it will make better MPGs for your new car, assuming if you want to try that solution. The cold is not a friend to any hybrid.
  18. From the album: C-Max at Mammoth

This was from 1 day of snowing.
