  1. From the '13 Manual: Intelligent Access (If Equipped) The system uses a radio frequency signal to communicate with your vehicle and authorize your vehicle to unlock when one of the following conditions is met: • You touch the inside of the front exterior door handle. • You press the luggage compartment button. • You press a button on the transmitter. I don't believe the rear door handles have sensors.
  2. Release latch? I have no idea. I was simply responding to a claim that pulling the rear handle unlocked the doors. Not true on my '13. Correct me if I am wrong, but the Canadian and U.S. models are identical save for the FT daytime running lights on ours.
  3. I've got a 2013 and you definitely can't unlock the doors by pulling the rear passenger door handles. Only pulling on the front door handles (with FOB in pocket) will do this. I find it easier to just double click on the unlock button as I'm walking towards the car.
  4. Very true about permanent or performance filters. You can't have improved air flow without increased dirt intake.
  5. Our family never had any problems with the Hondas we have owned in the past. I just think they've gone a bit bland over the years. Toyota was bland from the start. I thought I was getting a stomach ulcer from the problems we had with VW/Audi. I heartily recommend the "mechanic test"---ask your mechanic (or 2 or 3) what they think of VW.
  6. Guys, Google Dougherty Ford and submit a negative review about your experiences. As I did with unscrupulous Key West Ford in Vancouver. Prospective customers do read these comments.
  7. Sure.......and cars are designed by funky, passionate engineers with pictures of Ferraris on their walls who ignore management and lawyers to realize their vision!!! Do you really think Honda or VW are any better?? However, I basicaly agree with you, but have a somewhat different anti-new car philosophy which has more to do with technology excluding the consumer from the (necessary) repair and maintanence process. While I love my wife's C-max (the first new car we have ever bought), we're basically helpless if anything goes wrong---the polar opposite of my relationship with my glorious '66 Volvo.
  8. You may have problems with the 115 volt power outlet behind the armrest. It won't be a pure sine wave output, so electronic devices such as phone chargers or laptop chargers may not work. I'd take your phone to an electronics shop and ask them if they sell a 12v car adapter compatible with your phone's voltage. We got one for ipod/ipad for about $10 and it works well.
  9. They're absolutely identical. I looked at the 2015 gallery on Ford.ca and held up my 2013 brochure to compare.
  10. I did go to a restaurant drive-in once, and when my coke tipped over and landed in a blob of ketchup in a paper tray that was precariously balanced above the radio I thought "Why the hell am I not inside, sitting in a nice warm booth?". But it would have been great to have lived through the 50s.
  11. Sorry to ask, but what is the appeal in sitting in your C-max for two hours watching a movie? I can understand if it was a 57 Chevy with a front seat as comfortable as a chesterfield, but our seats are..........well.........not terribly comfortable.
  12. That's the pitfall a new C-max driver falls into----keeping the empower gauge under the threshold where the ICE engine kicks in. Resist this. You'll get better MPGs if you simply drive gently and let the ICE engage when it needs too. Or to put it another way----you want to avoid electricity for acceleration from a stop, which wastes a ton of battery energy.
  13. Thank you---exactly. We're talking about the SEL model here.
  14. If you're missing Sony audio----you're missing Nav. 301A equipment group Sorry.
  15. It's a place for off-topic discussion loosely related to the C-max. Like "have you seen the latest Chevy?" There are a number of good places for political discussions, but our forum is not one of them.
  16. That is not what this forum is about. But to answer your question----because the average psychopath with an axe to grind in Ireland or Finland or Canada or India has a very hard time getting his hands on a gun. So he hits someone with a bat or stabs them with a knife before getting wrestled to the ground.
  17. I was about to put in Mobil 0W20 on the weekend but they were having a promotion on Lucas oil so I got 5W20 full synthetic. Given that our car's ICE seems to run 40% of the time for city driving---6,000 miles seems a bit overkill but I'll go along with it.
  18. Not true. Eco-cruise does in fact maintain a speed, it just does it with an eye to avoiding lead-footed acceleration. You set it on 60 and you're going 60 most of the time. In response to the original post---you'll find that you'll be on electric about 60% of the time in the city.
  19. Doesn't the ticking come from a ticker relay in most cars? It's usually a silver canister and sits behind the dash in most cars. If you're intrepid, you could always wrap it in a piece of bubble wrap etc. to dampen the sound. Assuming you can find it.....
  20. The slightly rough join on the steering wheel gets "sanded off" after 6-12 months of driving. Over-loud turn signals? Give me a break.....
  21. I left them on once and noticed they were still on when I went back to the car 10 or 15 min later. My guess is that the energy management system would shut everything off when the battery got down to a certain voltage threshold. Like when you leave the radio on after turning the ignition off. Now I just leave them on "a" (auto)
  22. Really? A Focus? I'm 6'0" and I could barely get in and out of the thing. I did covet a Focus Electric for a long time, however.
  23. Don't forget dealerrater.ca if you're north of the border.
  24. Good to know. I've been using Meguiar's leather conditioner when I clean the interior. Armor-all will crack vinyl, plastic and leather quicker than green grass through a goose.
