  1. Very good point and something I wanted to say when a member in another post made an absurd comparison between the HVB and a (cordless tool?) Lithium Ion battery dying because it was left uncharged.
  2. As much as I hate our high B.C. insurance rates, we maxed out with comprehensive to avoid this kind of thing. I'm guessing a cash job to do that windshield is around $1000?
  3. From my interpretation of it: Standby mode indicates power on but green "ready to go" symbol off. Accessory mode would be the same. Ready mode is ready to drive with the green symbol lit. Isn't key position 1 the same as standby/acc mode in models without a key (power on the dash but no green symbol). As far as I know, the HV battery shouldn't be engaged with the radio on in standby mode. If it is engaged it should take a heck of a long time to drain from a 12 volt stereo. While sitting in a parking lot with the stereo on (standby/acc mode), my battery management system turned everything off after about 20 minutes.
  4. Bienvenue, Warranty on the '13 is about done? How many miles is on it? To be honest, the SEL interior was a big part of what we loved about the car. My days of sticking Garmin on the windshield and removing it after every journey are so over. Besides, the Ford NAV is much better IMO. It is a hassle to re-adjust the driver's seat after someone 6" shorter than you has been in it. It would be worse without power. Adrian
  5. I had 245R40-18s on my old Audi A6 and you could feel every pebble on the road. Just be careful of what you wish for. (for what it's worth I don't think the C-max looks it's best with shorter radius tires--something about the high roof; it throws the visual balance off and makes the car look like a big woman with small shoes--as in Kostby's pic above--but to each his own)
  6. Good info to know. I haven't started my research yet but it would be nice to have an extra closet in our basement. Cold showers are very refreshing. I used to have them while living in Mexico--when the roof LPG tank ran out. :)
  7. I'm assuming both left and right brake lights are on the same circuit---but check the fuses anyway. The only other thing I can think of is that water has got in somewhere and shorted something out. Or you have a bad ground. Or the new bulb is bad too.
  8. Hybrid drivers with 50 gallon hot water tanks?! Get with the Europeans, guys--it's all on demand systems there which take up very little space and use very little electricy and gas. Just waiting for my behemoth (yes a tank) to bite the dust.
  9. Try doing that in an Energi! (wuuuuuuaaahhhh !)
  10. Can't say I blame you Jenie. Let us know how it pans out....
  11. Don't forget in 730 days, your car started and ran well on 727 of those days. I feel your pain but have to agree with Paul that you might be throwing out the baby with the bath water.
  12. I'm smiling to myself remembering when I asked one of my dealership's salesmen Ivan (apparently the "hybrid expert") if the Pano roof opened. He starts looking around by the window visors. "I think so....... maybe there's a button on the dash or something". I bought from the dealership inventory and initially thought it was a bit of a drag that the roof was glued on, but then I grew to like it. It's great for the rear passengers to look out when driving around the city at night. As ScubaDad wrote, it makes the interior much more spacious in feeling. The shade cloth is a bit flimsy but it shouldn't be too hard to replace it, many moons later. I'll probably use a "greenhouse" shade cloth. Haven't noticed the interior getting unusually hot, even with our black car. I usually leave the two front windows open an inch when parked out in the summer sun. A/C is first class.
  13. I remember reading last year that Formula 1 enthusiasts were actually complaining that the new cars (hybrids, not full electrics) were not loud enough! At least Miami won't have to deal with grumpy old guys complaining about noise pollution (that happened every time we had the Molson Indy but I can't say it bothered us and we lived 4 blocks away from the race site. It was sort of like a beehive sound all weekend.)
  14. Thanks for removing the advertising. Probably best to check with the moderator if you're not sure about do's and dont's. Jus is a cool guy.
  15. Thank you P3G. EJ has posted four advertisments for California businesses, and it's obvious as John Travolta's hairpiece that these are either his buddies or he's getting some kind of fee for doing this. If he wants to get indignant ("hey guys, I'm just helping out!") so be it. But I don't have sawdust between my ears. As to EJ's hope that we get loads of sponsors to offer us all really great deals?!? I kinda like the forum, like PBS, commercial free.
  16. I'm kind of surprised that a window shop would do it at all if it violated state laws. From my experience, a decent mechanic or windows shop or whatever will not do anything considered risky, in terms of a customer safety or opening the door to possible litigation.
  17. Took the words right off my keyboard. I was going to say, take your Hyundai into the dealership for a trade-in appraisal and ask them if you can borrow a C-max for half a day.
  18. See if you can rent one for a few days. It's a good way to check out a car. We've had Vws, Honda, Audi and Volvo and I can honestly say this is the best car we have owned. Heated seats are too damn hot but you won't need 'em in Texas.
  19. My MPGs this winter were brutal! And it wasn't even that cold. Will be trying Paul's grill covers next year for sure.
  20. Trip 2 works great as a tank measure, provided your spouse remembers to reset it at the pump. &*@#$%&^* !
  21. You'd get a ticket in about 10 minutes in Vancouver. And the cops would give you a week to take it off before a mandatory trip to an inspection centre. They don't fool around with dangerous mod nonsense up here. Too many folks dying in cars.
  22. Cmon Steve. It's cool and aggressive. Kind of like driving a motorbike without a helmet.
  23. Please let me explain. You just signed up for the forum. Great---welcome aboard. However, your first four posts are basically all plugs for four different businesses. With addresses and links. I'm willing to be corrected here (and happy to apologize) but I think this kind of promo stuff is not permitted. I know that any link to a business on the Chevy forum I'm on will get deleted immediately, but maybe the C-max forum is different. I'm not the moderator, but after reading the fourth one last night I thought "are you kidding me?" It's advertising, even if it comes from an altruistic intent. Like Scubadad wrote, writing about an upgrade to your C-max with photos and info about where you had it done is fantastic, and a great service to the forum.
  24. I've tried Garmin, Magellan and Audi nav. The C-max NAV is better than all three in my opinion. I haven't been so lucky with the voice thing---maybe what's left of my English accent is throwing it off. I might have to put on a Texas drawl and see what happens.
  25. If the moderator doesn't have a problem with these four business-promoting posts then I don't.
