  1. I may have it backwards, but I had always imagined that the Energi had a greater overall reduction than the Hybrid, giving it better acceleration in EV but greater RPM for the ICE at highway speeds and hence lower MPG rating when running EV later. I doubt Ford would want to modify the Hybrid in that way.
  2. I got the tire plugs too, but I didn't think to put them in the secret floor compartment because I have a spare air compressor there. The compartment is used up by the charger on the Energi

Lots of people change their oil at 3000 miles too. Your car is a significant investment and you need to protect it in a way that you are comfortable with. I fill up too often have any concern about stale gas.

No need to worry about the condition of the gas. The NRG keeps track of fuel usage and will automatically run the ICE if the gas is starting to get old.
  5. Prefering not to risk the electronics in the car, I got seperate battery for the purpose when I bought my Prius 13 years ago and don't ever like to be wirhout it. It is kind of like carrying a spare tire. Oh crap, we don't have those any more.
  6. Wow. Great find. Another hidden cool feature of the C-Max.
  7. I have no idea. You know a lot more than I ever thought to ask. The glass sometimes seems bluish/purplish when viewed through raindrops and it must have some protective properties. I have never felt uncomfortable from too much sunlight coming through and the car doesn't seem any hotter in the summer with the shade open or closed. As for tinting, there are several on this forum and the NRG forum who have tinted the window and i don't recall hearing of any problems.
  8. We only know for sure about the 3G connection in the Energi. Perhaps the hybrid has one too but they haven't told us about it. Even so, the app only works on the Energi.
  9. Sounds like she needed BlondeStar - www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrt2q6Mpeyc
  10. Nice score. They might be just perfect for the Energi too.
  11. This is a tough choice. I don't think I could do black. As ScubaDad said, it gets hot and shows of dirt and road salt better than any other color. These would be issues for me, as I don't tend to wash the car much. I recommend asking if the dealer could find the exact combination that you want if it isn't one of those two. It is such a nice red and that might have been my first choice if a choice were available late in 2012. I would never have ordered the sun roof, but I could either choose that or wait until 2013 (and another year for the tax credit) so I took it. The pano roof makes me happy every single time I get in the car and I couldn't even tell you why because the driver can't see it while driving. It is just that good. I have not seen anything on how it affects the safety of the car, but I can't imagine that it enhances it.
  12. I don't think it tallies fuel used to warm the car up, and that can be substantial.
  13. I am surprised at the change in performance. They didn't mess with the NRGs and now I am glad.
  14. My experience with the C-Max in the little snow we get on Long Island has been excellent compared to the Prius, but my prius is an older model with smaller tires than the current model. The traction control and yaw control plus the large tires make the C-Max very sure footed - a feeling I never had in the snow with the Prius. The only catch is the low ground clearance that you will get with any high MPG car, but that hasn't been an issue for me in the C-Max. I am guessing that the Max would probably do better in snot than the Fit however.
  15. I own a Prius and it is an amazing car, but it doesn't hold a candle to my C-Max in ride, refinement, performance and a host of other factors. Plus I don't have to deal with the attitude of the local Toyota dealer anymore. Bottom line, you have to test drive the different cars yourself (and maybe more than once) to see what is right for you, but I would buy the C-Max again.
  16. I am interested. Saturn did it in it's early years and it worked well. I think 7 months may be too short a time to plan such an event on this scale. Maybe September/October timeframe might work, but at least a year would be more like it so people could plan their time off and such. I bet they could get a strong turnout.
  17. I have long suspected that the C-Max only records gas consumed in moving the car because its estimate of gas used is somewhat less than what I actually pump. It has been off by as much as a gallon. Yet the unaccounted fuel seems to be reflected in its fuel economy display, making it possible to register 8 MPGe on a very short trip on a very cold day with the ICE running and the (electric) heat on full blast.
  18. They are generally (but not perfectly) proportional except the bars lead the RPM. The bars represent load on the drive system in KW. The greater the load, the faster the computer will run the ICE to provide the power that you are requesting. Thus there is validity in using a 1 bar vs. a 2 bar burn as compared to constantly looking at the faculty.
  19. I love the Pano roof. If anything, it gives more headroom. The bigger question is how does it affect safety? They added more cushioning in the regular roof and the pano has none at all. Are there times when that is an issue? I guess the best answer is to never roll the car and find out.
  20. Most likely they would. I wish I could disable electric heat if the ICE is on though.
  21. I experimented with the heat this week on my Energi. I would normally use it on a highway trip where the ICE needs to run anyway but have been using only the seat heaters for my short 7-9 mile depending on route) commute. The Energi uses the traction battery to heat the car so you don't get a mileage advantage out of it but the car gets warm fast. The ICE also runs hotter when heat is required so it doesn't shut down at lights early in the commute. Bottom line is that MPGe (includes electric use) drops from 108 to 39-40 on a short trip in cold weather. This compares with 140-150 in the summertime for the same trip. I found I burn around .1 gal on this short trip, so most of the loss is the electric heater. The bummer is that the EV miles are reduced and the only way to save them is to keep the heat off. I don't think the hybrid has electric heat so it is not an issue for most of you. My Prius has it to warm up the engine quickly and there are days when it can get crappy mileage on a short trip on a cold day.
  22. I am pleased with how well the C-max does in the snow. The only issue is ground clearance. The Jeep has loads of it and a hybrid doesn't. Five or six inches of snow on the road and traction doesn't matter any more. I take the minivan on those day if there is a pressing need to go out at all.
