  1. As I said before, cars without MFT seemed more prone to the infamous battery problem than cars with it, so that's the main reason you might consider it. The early 2013 models also seemed a lot more prone to this issue. For me as much as I love our 2014 SE model (with MFT) there is no way I'd buy an early 2013 SE, due to that possible issue. Maybe a *late* 2013 SE, and certainly any SEL no matter the year (or any SE with MFT, as ours has). I suspect almost ALL the reported reliability issues are due to that battery one.
  2. The SEL will have MFT, which to my mind is a HUGE plus (also tends not to have the battery problems of the SE). As you can see from a cursory glance here, early 2013 SE models in particular had battery issues which (to my mind, at least) either were solved in production as time went by or have been fixed with updates and/or mechanical adjustments along the way. Which isn't to say you might not still have battery problems but you can mitigate them by choosing wisely.
  3. I recently read an article about car dealerships, about how they have basically used their money to have the laws either changed or kept in place so that no real fair practices can be allowed. There's no other industry in the world that operates in such an unscrupulous manner, and it doesn't surprise me that folks who make a living selling cars there are so tainted themselves -- it's hard to work in a criminal environment and not become one. I realize that some folks think "well, business is business" but we would not stand for these kinds of things anywhere else. It's truly revolting to consider what goes on there, but it's also almost impossible to change given the money that changes hands to politicians for this. I think about car salesmen the same way I feel about drug dealers -- they might be very nice people outside of what they actually do, but I wouldn't want my sister to marry one.
  4. Yup, mine is 16 months and slightly over 10K and zero problems of any sort (well, I had an early GPS issue they solved with a software update). Just had my 10K checkup (and then got the car washed as well -- with our color I don't have to wash it more than every six to eight months and it always looks brand new). I've never had a car I've enjoyed as much (lifetime average of 45.8 but my wife has a lead foot -- if I were the only one driving we'd be easily in the 50's).
  5. Isn't autoplay the feature that starts the playback when the car turns on? It picks up wherever it left off. I have it on all the time.
  6. You actually can create a playlist that holds all your music and will be played in whatever order the playlist is in. This is how I got around that when I was playing more than one album at a time (nowadays I actually don't use USB at all but play from my iPhone since support in the latest update is so great -- the enhanced Siri really works a treat).
  7. Ah, found it -- it's the "Sync Gracenote" features you need to turn off (for some reason they are on by default, although when I updated my Sync it did not turn them back on so I'm not sure why they did it for you). Here's the thread where I explain in detail: http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/4391-creating-and-managing-your-music-collection-for-mft-on-usb/?hl=songs
  8. Yes, the "simple setting" is to turn off the "get info for songs from web" (it's not called that but I'm not in my car at the moment and don't have the manual in front of me). There are two such options, both to get information about the song you are playing from online and if you can't find them let me know and I'll go out to my car and look for what they are called exactly. With them both off the songs will play in album order (unless you turn shuffle on, in which case they will play randomly). There is also a thread I think I started around here about this so, again, if you can't find the option let me know and I'll locate it (I'm right in the middle of something or I'd do it myself, but if you go to the Music Options menu you'll see what I mean).
  9. Right -- and forums are NOT the place to rant (if you think so you really don't understand the internet. Try Twitter -- that seems to be the place most people are complaining with little expectation of getting results). Forums like these are set up to HELP. But as Adrian points out, it's even funnier if you propose a "solution" that a lot of folks here just don't agree with. What do you expect? We ain't Ford and although Ford reps do come on here (to HELP out, but not to listen to rants or even ideas for "solutions") this isn't the place to contact Ford. We are people who have our own opinions and if you came here to argue and then don't understand why others are arguing with you you really are clueless. (And I'll give you a practical example of how forums really work: you can probably get your update by asking the Ford rep, NICELY, if she will look up your VIN and find out why it isn't showing for you. She's done that for a number of folks here. Hey, what a concept -- actually coming to a forum and getting help).
  10. And now it's done. Whew! We'll see how Siri now responds <g>.
  11. Thanks for the heads up -- this is actually a very useful update to me (I'm firmly in the Apple family, and both my wife and I have iPhones). I've downloaded it but since it takes 30 minutes for the update to install I'm a *little* hesitant to do it right now (30 minutes? Yipes, that's a long time to leave the car running, even a hybrid. I assume it won't start ICE in my garage just for this minimal power requirement, even though the car does need to be "running", but my old school mind kind of hates the idea of leaving my car operating there unattended for so long. Heck, we were even taught to be careful when a car was in park and running because it could accidentally slip into gear. What has the world come to?).
  12. Well, good for you (problems that go away are the best... unless they become "intermittent". Sigh). Perhaps you've had good luck or I've had bad cars <g> (or just not taken care of them as well). I know in my old age I'm driving so much more... "carefully" that I hope everything, including the audio, lasts a long time (with the C-Max so quiet the audio system is *really* good -- on par or better with others I've spent thousands on).
  13. Haven't had it happen but mileage (or more precisely, traveling) could definitely play a factor, as the components in any audio system aren't meant to be shaken much (for example, most speakers in cars won't last *nearly* as long as they would if they were sitting at home in a stable environment). Same goes for the delicate mechanism to play a CD. In the past I've replaced my cars stereo systems at least once or twice during my ownership (then again, I keep most of my vehicles a LONG time). Depending on your driving habits you can expect to do more or less the same.
  14. I'll probably be of very little help then -- I have MFT and setting the clock, while a *bit* complicated, is quite a bit different than the system without it. According to the 2015 manual here's what it says (and I assume she's already read the manual so, again, probably not a lot of help): Press the up and down arrow buttons to scroll through the options. Press the right arrow to enter a menu. Press the left arrow to exit a menu. Press OK to confirm a selection. Clock Settings: Set Time Select to set the time. Set Date Select to set the calendar date. So it appears pretty straightforward -- she just needs to press OK to confirm the selection. But beyond looking at the manual I'm afraid I'll have to leave it to someone else here who has an SE to help.
  15. We'd also need to know if she has MFT or not (but if you can tell us if her model is an SEL that will also be good enough, as that comes standard on those models).
  16. There is a later map database -- um, I *think* it's A6 but I'm very old and don't remember (the way it went, I THINK, was that when we bought our vehicle last July it came with A4, which I upgraded to A5 from eBay for less than $40 in December, but that A6 has now officially been released a month or two ago). However, I wouldn't have the dealer sell you A6 -- if they toss it in for free that's one thing (but they usually won't). You can definitely eBay an original (like I and others here have done) for around $40, which is FAR below what the dealerships will charge. For me, I'm fine with A5 but I'll probably wait until next summer and get the latest again.
  17. 2014 SE but with MFT here and no battery problems (but only after a year and 10K miles). It *does* appear that they have resolved a lot of them (and it also appears they were more prevalent on the 2013 SE without MFT).
  18. Did you have the latest TSB that was supposed to resolve a lot of these issues? (Um, can't find my notice right at the moment but you should be able to find it here on the forums. Seems to me it came out in August but I could be mis-remembering). You would have gotten a notice about it -- don't assume your dealership did everything they should or even know about it, as it's up to you to be pro-active in this department.
  19. Hmm, ya know, I don't remember snow being like that at all -- it was just bitterly cold, messy, wet and turned into a dirty gray mess in a few days. I like looking at it on TV though.
  20. Winter? What the heck is THAT? (Oh, yeah, it's that cooler, pleasant time of the year when I can play tennis without sweating my ass off). And, yes, MUCH better mileage (since I no longer have the A/C on all the time).
  21. Looks not. This is going to have ramifications FAR beyond VW (many analysts are saying it could be death knell for diesels -- at the very least VW is going to axe MANY folks over this: their CEO is only the first). Kind of makes you wonder who else will get caught (and I suspect most of you aren't old enough to remember, but this reminds me a GREAT deal of the cigarette companies and their denial of all the cancer reports).
  22. Could be an antenna issue -- you might try taking the car to your dealer and seeing if they can check things out -- the antenna could have gotten disconnected or otherwise improper. That would be my hunch, since the radio mechanism itself is so simple there isn't much to it and if your radio is receiving other signals the radio itself is probably just fine. If that particular station is weak then any issues with an antenna will show up.
  23. Yeah, I agree. We actually had the Escape near the top of our list of cars to buy when we went looking. I *did* have the C-Max on the list, but it was so near the bottom we probably wouldn't have looked at it at all had the salesperson who had us test drive the Escape not mentioned it. The test drive sold me and while we did look at a few other small SUVs afterwards there was no question the C-Max had beat everything else. The lack of cargo space is why the Energi wouldn't have been a consideration for me at all -- there isn't a day goes by I don't use nearly all that space in the rear (I play tennis nearly every day and my bag is just about the size of the rear. For those of you not serious players you may doubt this, but if you look at any of the pros on the tour you'll see what I mean -- my bag could almost literally fill that back space. It certainly would have never fit in the Energi and no way I would have wanted it in the back seat as I often have other players with me there).
