  2. Hey, no offense meant. If the noise continued when the fuse was pulled, then it is not the ANC causing the problem. That is the "definitive" part - not the ANC. If I understand you correctly, the noice was less without ANC. The ANC is designed to cancel out noises from the engine, so Ford could build it lighter, with less sound deadening components. This sounds like an ANC problem. I'm assuming they replaced the microphones in the vehicle, that would be the next thing to check. But if it is going to bother you, I won't make any more suggestions...
  3. Did you pull the fuses for the ANC? If the noise goes away, that would be definitive.
  4. I could not have afforded my Energi if not for the rebates, but that is beside the point. If the rebates had not been there I would have simply bought something else. I pay a lot in taxes, and I'm just getting some of it back, in my view. I think that all vehicles should pay only for the miles they drive, based on the weight of the car. However it is critical that they simply check the odometer each year, not invade privacy like Oregon is doing by putting GPS in the vehicles. That is just too prone to abuse.
  5. The settings have been turned off. It is on page 84 of the owner manual that was just posted. Use the right arrow to get to the settings for the "Charge Assist" arrows, then select the center button to enable them. Interesting, the menus are in the C-Max as well, but those arrows are normally enabled by default, and I've never looked at those screens.
  6. One thing I don't like about the Fusion is the heated seat controls - they are in the MFT on the Fusion, instead of a mechanical control on the console in the C-Max. I can't understand why Ford would do that. Of course, if you don't use the heated seats it won't matter...
  7. A ton of options are available, including air conditioned seats, memory seats, BLIS and adaptive cruise control. Of course, a Fusion Energi Titanium also can end up costing almost 45K with all those options, whereas the maximum for a C-Max Energi is around 36K.
  8. My wife is on a trip to Portland this week. She doesn't like driving my C-Max Energi due to the electric steering and brakes. Guess what vehicle she got for a rental!!
  9. Thanks for the clarification! I still don't know if it is .30 or just slightly less. Still higher than the Fusion, and with a larger cross section as well.
  10. It does not show up on the 2014 C-Max Energi. It would be nice if it did show the set speed there.
  11. I've been monitoring the Energi thread where the owner was having trouble with his transmission. The Ford dealer was claiming that only the electrical part of the CVT was covered, and apparently Ford Corporate was agreeing. The warranty statement for the 2013 has a bunch of language that is drafted from other vehicles, followed by the statement you just quoted. I think it was always a lot of hogwash - those statements included stuff like "locking transfer case" and "AWD" and are obviously invalid, but that owner almost paid 1K to have the diagnose the transmission. Fortunately a second dealer said that was stupid - there are no dealer serviceable parts in the transmission - and diagnosed it for 130 bucks. I agree with your interpretation of 100K (150 for CARB states), but I hope I never have to find out.
  12. I don't trust them - hold on a minute while I go change that number to .40! I did a check when I bought the car, but I don't recall if it was .29 or .30. But in any case it is more efficient that the FFH. EDIT: I did a check, and according to some posts on the hybrid forum, Ford itself changed the estimated cD between 2013 and 2014.   13. I believe that the FFH is rated at .27 cD, while the C-Max is .30. Plus, it is a bigger front section as well (as you noted).

My all time favorite was about 12 years ago, when Microsoft Excel had a secret key sequence that caused the entire screen to be replaced with a fully animated version of the Star Trek screen, with onrushing stars and everything, where the programmers then scrolled up the screen like credits in a movie. No wonder the darn program file was huge...

  17. OK, I'll take a stab. Is it because Ford is tracking the time and location, and attempting EV+ only at final destinations?
  18. Can't really answer that one, apparently the 2014 Energi is different. My EV+ comes on every time I approach an EV+ destination. It is funny in the morning because one of my EV+ destinations is my in-laws house, which is right across from the school where I drop off the kids, so I end up in EV+ for essentially no reason, which then stops about a quarter mile from their house.
  19. Rich Ford, I know the place; I used to drive by there all the time. I think there is a TSB on the transmission, have you looked into that?
  20. I have been reading the thread over on the Energi forum. The second dealer said that they would diagnose the transmission without a tear down, but no one has out and out said that the entire transmission falls under the 8/100 warranty. I'm not sure how they come up with that, because I don't think the transmission is dealer serviceable; I think it has to be replaced. So just a point to note. Some dealers are sticking with concept of parts of the transmission being covered by the 5 year / 60K powertrain warranty. It sounds fishy to me, and I've not heard of anyone actually having to pay for transmission repairs - or heard of any real problems with the transmission, except for one TSB that Ford has issued.
  21. There is a member over on the Energi forum who bought a used 2013 with 79K. The transmission was making noise. The first dealer said they would charge 1K to diagnose, and then if it was the "hybrid part" of the transmission it would be covered, otherwise it would cost 7K. I have a feeling that dealer was either sleezy or clueless. He took it to a separate dealer who said (correctly) that there was nothing that could be rebuilt on the transmission anyway, charged $170 to check it, and discovered the transmission had to be replaced under the hybrid warranty. It got a bit confused because the warranty booklet for the 2013 included a lot of generic words under the "60K powertrain" warranty. It mentioned locking wheel hubs and AWD! Obviously that is impossible, and in any case that entire hybrid CVT is unique to the hybrid car. I've never heard of anyone thinking the 8/100 didn't cover the full transmission, but that dealer tried to say so, and Ford corporate apparently backed the dealer up. It was hogwash as far as I was concerned, and it appears to have turned out all right. But back OT, if an extended warranty had been involved, there would have been no quesion - and an included rental car while the transmisison was fixed.
  22. Yes, I've read that in the manual as well. If you have gone that far, it is really extreme. But I rather expect that the extra fuel you were putting into the car was not in the gas tank, and I always leave room for expansion, even on road trips. There would be no reason for Ford to under-report the size of the fuel tank, especially when the consumer generally thinks a larger tank is better. The MPG will be accurate over multiple fill ups, even when using the click method. I also attempt to fill up at the same pump every time, just for accuracy. But it will all even out over time.
  23. Indeed, I recall my father griping about 25 cents a gallon back in 1971, in North Carolina. We had an International Travelall, with a big V8 and a 4 barrel carb. Drank the gas, but sure pulled the trailer great.
  24. Paul, This is something I hope everyone reads - if you already have an ESP warranty, it can be extended so long as there is still time or mileage on the existing ESP. I had a warrenty extension on my FEH up to around 140K miles.
  25. Odd this would come up today. I have an Energi, so I usually don't end up in hybrid mode, but yesterday I stayed overnight away from home, and I arrived having run on hybrid mode for several miles. It went into EV+ near my destination. By then the battery was pretty low. I was surprised this morning when I hit my start button - the ICE fired up! That is an odd feeling for the Energi. I agree with other comments, that the EV+ mode is probably best left to the Energi models, where it gets us home with that last bit of battery, and then everything is charged up overnight. I kind of wonder if they used identical programming in the two vehicles so far as SOC is concerned, and EV+ got left over. After all, the Energi uses the hybrid programming on the highway - it is identical except that when going down long hills, the larger HVB allows more energy to be stored. I got 46.5 in pure hybrid mode, BTW. But it was late and I wasn't trying many techniques. I can usually get 50-55 MPG in pure hybrid.
