  1. I'm sure you are correct. I was just sharing what I do to get past it. Maybe I'll schedule a trip to the dealer, since I am under warranty. The problem is, they will want to see the issue before they fix it.
  2. I have this happen at least once or twice per summer. Here is what I do. I think the compressor is frozen, because this always fixes it. Make sure Recirc is off (so you are bringing in fresh air). Turn the A/C button OFF and the fan to at least three or four. After just a minute, the outside air will defrost the compressor and you will have A/C. Works every time for me. But maybe I should have them check that TSB...
  3. I don't think it is space, most of these items are software, and the C-Max already has side sensors with some packages. I think they designed the car as it was, a modification of the European C-Max, and decided not to update it. The new EV may have those features available.
  4. Ah, good to know. I had thought it was a different platform.
  5. The transit connect is not built on the same platform, so far as I know. So the drivetrain is not the same format.
  6. I work across the street from the LA Tesla distributor. See them all the time, sometimes being hauled back for service by a Ford heavy duty pickup (ironic).
  7. I get 36 at 78 MPH. Eco cruise will range from 76 to 80. That was on a 1800 mile round trip through the desert. The C-Max handles fine at high speeds.
  8. Well, you can't do that with the Energi, can it be done with the hybrid?
  9. I don't know of any such mode in the Energi. We have an easier time, because there is 5.6 KWH in the battery, so the Energi is more likely to have room to regen. However, on the highway, in what is called EV Later, from what I can tell the Energi drives exactly like the hybrid. If you want to lose SOC on the uphill, you have to do it yourself.
  10. I have one, but I don't use it. I used in on my Escape Hybrid, but just never really felt the need with the Energi. The HVB doesn't last long on highway uphill slopes. I generally shoot for using both ICE and HVB in those situations. But on a long uphill, even 5.6 KWH doesn't last long.
  11. Just a note on HOV here in CA. The stickers have run out. You can register for the waiting list - if the legislature approves more stickers, they will issue them. They ran out in December of 2015.
  12. You know, if you use simple HTML controls, the site will work with any browser. Webmasters keep using "tricks" that only work with one type of browser.
  13. You can check in with your dealer. It takes only a minute to turn them off - they might do it for you cheap or free. Mine would have done it for free, but the 2014 doesn't have the setting. 2015 and later have it selectable in the left hand driver settings screen. The setting is in the Body Control Module.
  14. I would probably use ECO mode if it were available on my Energi. Then just turn it off for on ramps and such. But I probably already drive mine in "Pseudo-ECO" mode anyway. I get 45 MPG in hybrid mode when that happens on my Energi.
  15. It means the vehicle was operating on electric only, i.e. "EV" = "Electric Vehicle".
  16. I think the main problem is weight, not cD, although both hurt.
  17. I agree with the "ugly" factor. I drove the V when I was shopping, and it is too bus like for my taste. I didn't like the Prius driving experience on any of the models. Funny story though, my wife shopped the Prius C before settling on the VW Passat TDI. I reset the MPG meter before the drive, and after a few minutes, the salesman said I was the only one where he had actually seen more than 50 MPG during a test drive.
  18. Well, in GA maybe there is no need for more cooling, but the last time I went through Needles CA in August, the temperature was 119F.
  19. No, the hill mode and "L" engage the regen, that is all. When the Hybrid gets to full HVB, it will shed energy by engaging the ICE (but not burning fuel), as discussed previously.
  20. I believe that is common to both vehicles as well. They are trying to give the engine time to warm up a bit, by using the EV boost.
  21. +1 to Plus 3 Golfer. The friction brakes will only come on when you press the brake pedal.
  22. I had it on my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid, and that is the way they worked.
  23. Well, the Prius does have the "V" model, which is more like a station wagon. At least they had it last year, I'm not sure if they kept it for 2017. Anyway, that one can definitely out carry a C-Max.
  24. It is fairly simple. For one thing, we don't know what the Prius was doing. It may well have been in their "B" mode, which is similar to our "L" mode, causing more regen. You do know that there is a switch on the shifter that puts you in "hill mode"? It increases the regen slightly. If you need more braking, shift to "L". Note that the engine may come on and spin up to fairly high RPM, but it is not using gas - the car is using the engine as a brake when the HVB gets full. I own the Energi version, but I believe both the hybrid and the Energi have the same modes.
  25. Just for a note here. The ICE starts by having the transmission spin the engine up to 1000 RPM, at which point gas is applied. It happens very fast. But there is no starter motor, and I think this is easier on the engine. They have been using this technique since the Escape Hybrid came out 11 years ago. Toyota uses the same method.
