OK, so some of you know that I've had problems with my SYNC system freezing up on hot afternoons. So I was following this thread with great interest. My C-MAX has been at the dealership for nearly a week while they tried to duplicate the problem, with no success. They have baked it in the sun for as many days as there was sun here in MI to no avail..........everything works perfectly. We were driving home from MN yesterday and I had some free time in the car, so I called SYNC customer care to see if they could tell me what they knew about this problem and what constitutes *special characters* that would cause problems. Is it *&%#@ only or does it include ()+=-_! (Sounds like I'm swearing in type, doesn't it?) Anyway, the CSA told me "anything that is not a letter" in the name field. She said it only applies to the name field. She promised to document everything I said and go over it with her supervisor and call me back today if they could come up with anything else. So for about 2 hours yesterday, while Jerry drove, I went thru my phone address book, name by name. I found about 12 where I had entered the email address in the name field so I corrected that. There were a couple of other oddball things that I fixed. I'm picking my car up today, with a master reset already done and nothing else that I know of. I will probably SYNC the phone but not upload the phone book for a couple of days. It's cool and rainy today, so I don't expect any SYNC failures. Wish me luck. My heart goes out to GreenChicago, mtb, wingrider, and all the rest who are having so many issues right now. Looks like 3.5.1 wasn't the magic bullet we all hoped for.

Well,I get mine back Tuesday. I only drove it for 1 day after the update, before the old problem, that we hoped the update would take care of, came back. I'll report back after I drive it some. Good luck GC

I don't think the master reset will take you back to the old version tho. What do they tell you at your dealership about your issues?

I don't blame you one bit Laurel! My issue started before the update tho, so I'll have to have it back for a few days to see how the updates work. I'm so happy for you that Tip has been trouble free for you (knocking on wood here too!)

No, I was hesitant to leave the phone, plus I use it all the time. I've been checking my address book for *unique *characters but some are part of the phone system and can't be removed. We shall see what happens after Tuesday .

Salsa guy, JellyBean is my name for my C-MAX. Someone on Facebook early on described the C-MAX as a jellybean in a derogatory manner, but I liked the name. Didn't know there was an android version called that, but my phone is an Android. Sorry for any confusion

there's lots of folks in warmer climates than MI that haven't had problems. I think it's an issue with mine.

Mine will usually self correct if I turn it off for 10-15 minutes or so. Once I went out and turned it on/off 15 min before the end of the day. That worked, but the next time I tried it, everything worked at 4:45 But nothing worked at 5. Go figure. It's very annoying to drive all the way home with no features working. And when this happens , the only way I can use my phone is to unSYNC it from the car

About May 20 I took my C-MAX to the dealership to address the SYNC/phone/radio issue on really hot days. They kept it over night but could not duplicate the problem. Did a master reset, and when I SYNCed the phone I did not upload the phone book. Drove like that with no issues but no really hot days either. Took the car back in on May 28 for the 3.5.1 and lift gate upgrade. I picked it up that afternoon, SYNCed phone and uploaded phone book on a *do or die* theory. Lift gate worked fine. 3.5.1 worked. Phone sync worked. Wednesday things worked. Thursday morning things worked. Thursday afternoon May 30 5pm, radio, SYNC, phone all were frozen. No paddles, dials or buttons worked. I drove It to the dealership in that state so they could see it. It was 5:30, so it was too late to hook up to the computers for analysis, so they gave me a loaner and kept it. I was comforted by the fact that 3 technicians had seen the problem in action. It is now Saturday June 8 and they have not been able to duplicate the problem. They have cooked it in the sun and each time it's started and all systems work fine. I'm picking it up on Tuesday, unless something happens Monday, and will. SYNC phone but not upload phone book rights away. I suppose I will have to wait until we have 80* temps in the middle of the day, hope it fails at lunch so I can take it to the dealership early enough in the day so they can get the engineers involved to analyze the problem.

Me too Ron! I've discovered I've become a bit of a *car snob*. I don't LIKE driving *other* cars! :sad: (But it's better than no car at all, right?!) Besides, his QC needed a little QC :hysterical:

Interesting! Thanks for sharing this. I wonder if that's what could be making mine freeze up? I will check my phone book entries to see if I have any special characters.

HPRifleman.....you say you can make outbound calls......could you voicedial them or dial from the screen or phone? Could you hear the person thru the car speaker? And also, by any chance, had your car been outside in the sun all day? I only ask because I'm trying to find someone who has the same issue I'm having with my car.

Yes, SnitGTS, mine has gotten steadily better over the last 7 or so tanks....45 for the high. Thanks for asking! Don't know what this one will be tho, car has been in for 3.5.1 upgrades and complications lately.
