  1. Actually, you put your finger right on it ('compute'). In a hybrid, all that torque is not available immediately - it is metered out by the computer. In some all electric cars and motorcycles, when in 'sport' mode usually, all the torque is available.
  2. Another review of the Niro on driving.ca. No new news on the need for more HP, but some interesting photos (12 v battery reset button?). The reviewer also observes that "However, with its hybrid powertrain — and subsequent 5.4 L/100 km combined fuel economy rating — the Niro separates itself from that pack, instead focusing its gaze at nibbling into the market share of the Toyota Prius V, and to a lesser extent the Ford C-Max hybrid".
  3. The article says it will get "2.1 l/100km (112 MPGe)".
  4. A new Mini plug-in hybrid is coming. C-Max like horsepower and four-wheel drive! According to the article in New Atlas: The powertrain in the Countryman combines a three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a synchronous electric motor for a total system output of 165 kW (224 hp). Power from the petrol engine is put to the road through a six-speed automatic gearbox, and the electric motors power the rear wheels through a two-stage transmission. The car is able to use the engine/motor combination to act as a four-wheel drive system on slippery terrain. It also helps the car spring off the line: 0-100 km/h (62 mph) takes just 6.8 seconds, quicker than the average hybrid. The hybrid system in the ALL4 works largely in the background, automatically switching between power sources. The electric motor is active from a standstill, making the most of instant torque on offer, while the petrol engine cuts in when the speedo ticks past 80 km/h (50 mph). If the driver wants to stay on battery power, they can switch into Max eDrive mode and run up to 125 km/h (78 mph) without the petrol engine intervening. Looks like an excellent suite of features!
  5. The price premium for the Energi tends to disappear with age; with careful searching you can find a three or four year old Energi for about the same price as an SEL. Here is one for example in your province.
  6. Agreed. There is now a new review on the same site (posted Feb 2nd). Quite favourable and more in depth.
  7. New review with Canadian prices. Rates it as a '9.5'. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-drive/reviews/new-cars/review-2017-chevrolet-bolt-is-an-affordable-game-changer-and-fun-to-drive/article33755125/
  8. You're right; there must also be an interior temperature sensor.
  9. New Niro review in Driving.ca - calls it an SUV (?). See it here.
  10. Getting decent snow tires will make a big difference; I drove home after a one day record of 50 cm of snow last winter and made it all the way.
  11. My mother was in a car on the 27th (Toyota Yaris), in Hamilton Ontario, hit a deer at city speed and the car is totaled.
  12. More on the bolt here. Apparently all Canadian Bolts will come standard with the L3 charging system. The Bolt seems to also have won the 'Green Car of the Year' Award.
  13. I'm sure there was a missed 'then fill with the correct oil in the correct amount' step that was missed in that sequence....
  14. Just to close the loop on this... I did pose the question to Curt (the manufacturer) and the answer I got back was: "This hitch will not stand the stress placed on it when used with a scooter carrier. Thank you, Mark Zank Technical Services Associate" So, needless to say, I'm not going there.
  15. Has anyone tried using the Curt class 2 hitch #12092 (rated at 350 lbs) with the VersaHaul Motorcycle Carrier (#VH-50CC)? I've been thinking about this combo to haul my 200 lb 50 cc Aprilia scooter (think Vespa if you don't know what the Aprilia is). The carrier weights about 50 lbs so the tongue weight capacity of the Curt is not surpassed. This carrier is the only one I could find that would fit the 1.25" (class 2) receiver. thanks
  16. Since not everyone is having the same problem Frank, (see, I was able to quote above), could it be an issue with the browser or version of the browser that you are using? It might also need the latest plugins to enable some of the forum's features. Just a thought. Try posting using another computer.
  17. What? You mean they don't have the speaker mounted on a pedestal that you mount on your window anymore! Pity....
  18. You can jump start it; there are positive and negative posts under the front hood. Before buying, I test drove one at the dealer, and they had to boost it before we could drive it.
  19. Careful with the language there Paul! ;)
  20. Rebecca, that did not work. Only 5 contacts (seemingly random) seem to make it across to the car. I've tried deleting the phonebook and re-downloading it but it only seems to get the same 5 people. Same result also when I delete the pairing and re-establish it.
  21. Before paying $188 for an updated SD card for the nav. check on ebay for better prices.
  22. My gmail contacts were not picked up either. Like Rebecca said, the contacts have to be stored on the phone - gmail / hotmail etc contacts are stored 'in the cloud' so to say and are only synchronized on the phone so that might be a barrier.
  23. Yes Rebecca. The BlackBerry does ask me where to store the contact: local, SIM, or one of my email accounts. Which one is preferred?
  24. Yes I've heard the same thing from the Canadian side when our dollar was at par. Doesn't stop people though when the price is right. Cross border car shopping is a big business.
