  1. Thanks, After I posted, I learned about the odd two-piece, foil-wrapped design that has caused some consternation (among several brands) that included an attempted-and-dismissed class-action lawsuit somewhat recently. Unfortunate, but yes, I'll be shopping for a one-piece lug because all of mine are displaying "loose" cappings. Greg
  2. This is unsettling to me, but might be normal: Went to torque all lug nuts on both of our cmaxes. Oddly, I can reverse the lug nuts very slightly with almost no pressure, which suggests they're loose, but...they're not; but it's unsettling that they seem to have some kind of "torque washer" (my term) or encased stud that allows movement. Can several folks please confirm this for me. I'm only used to lugs that seat firm and strong and do not move or "wiggle" any after being torqued (or even slightly tightened). Thanks! Greg
  3. Have done few other car's brakes, but not a cmax yet. If I remember correctly, for rotational pistons, clockwise retracts it. Could parking brake be interfering? Wish I could be better help, but haven't done a cmax yet, so not sure of the setup. Hopefully, someone will chime in with deets. Greg
  4. Dropped car at ford dealer and interestingly, they first resurfaced all rotors (front and back) and then ended up replacing the rear ones after measuring "below"tolerance. None of the brake pads were replaced at the same time. Did not expect or want the front ones resurfaced, so not sure why they did that since the problem reported was for the rear brake/tire noise. A little annoyed that a dealer would replace rotors but not the brake pads since you've already got the brakes apart. Oh well, 2 more years of warranty left, so if I hear other noises or warping, back it goes... Greg
  5. Mine is definitely coming from the rear wheels. Small chance it's a wheel bearing; likely scenario is either a brake caliper not fully releasing for simply an uneven rotor. Sounds similar to driving the car after a few days of rust have built up on the rotors except that it occurs constantly while driving. I'll add that to my undercarriage rattle that's gone unresolved next service. Greg
  6. Hi, When coasting (even in neutral), I hear a pulsating, metallic rubbing sound coming from the rear. I suspect it's the rotors rubbing against something, but correct me if I'm wrong - once any rotor rust is "busted" loose, there should be near-nothing in terms of rubbing until hitting the brake pedal, correct? It's different than the regen noise and as mentioned, does this coasting in neutral as well. Maybe a caliper is hung up or a splash guard is slightly bent, causing the rubbing, but...curious if anyone else notices this; it's most noticeable when all windows are up. Thanks, Greg
  7. Tested it on mine and while it makes the constant electrical pump or "whine" sound when depressing the brake pedal, it does not make the rhythmic thumping sound. Greg
  8. Backyack, Nice job loading video and sound. I agree with Plus3 with respect to the thumping sounding unusual; doesn't mean it's bad necessarily, but don't recall either of ours sounding like that, although I do notice my wife's brake pedal often "thumps" when taking your foot off it while mine will not. I will pay more attention the next few trips I make and let you know if mine sound similar to yours. If it bothers you enough, try one more dealer to gauge their findings. Cars today a lot more "odd" sounds than ever. Greg
  9. Well, they definitely have not improved by the 2017 and 2018 models as both ours purchased new are failing around an average of 10,000 miles. Seems to be a known problem. Every time another one of mine goes, I'll be adding it to the NHTSA website to hopefully help initiate a recall. Greg
  10. My 2018 titanium is now suffering from similarly bad strut braces that are now clunking. Just had both replaced on our 2017 energi cmax and now our 2018 is suffering the same. This is annoying because I thought FORD has upgraded this part a couple years ago. Ugh, Greg
  11. After hitting the start/stop button several times, it eventually all faded to black. Greg
  12. 2018 hybrid with ~10,000 miles on it. Odd thing last night when parking - hit the start-OFF button to shut down and the usual interior lighting slowly faded, but the large center touchscreen display stayed illuminated in "dirty gray". Took a couple on/off cycles to get the car to fade everything to black, but never seen that before. Anyone seen that or know what that's all about??? Thanks! Greg
  13. 2018 titanium cmax and noticed, since new, the rear tires roar more than I'm used to, making me think the bearings are going bad prematurely. Hopefully, just tire noise, but will see if anything changes after I rotate the tires. Currently @ 8,000 miles and about to do an oil/filter change and tire rotation. Greg
  14. 2018 hybrid - driving through DC and around the DC/MD/VA beltway: ~7,500 miles and in 7 months since new, 46.7 MPG thus far. Greg
  15. Posting a few photos of what you're dealing with and the service manual should help others provide some guidance. Greg

    coolant

It was way more than I needed, but yeah, I went ahead and bought a gallon of Ford's prediluted coolant from Amazon. I figure every couple years I'll siphon out and replace the inverter coolant to make use of some of the excess. Another option would be if you were getting warranty work or a tire rotation or... (with a ford dealer service coupon of course), ask them to top all fluids while there. Greg
  17. Thanks for the replies! Will experiment with it a little bit. Greg
  18. 2018 titanium with heated seats. Looking for recommendations for getting adequate heat from the blower. I use the auto AC without issue, but wonder how folks handle their best heating/defrosting... Does "auto" work well for heat settings? Or is it better to manually select heat temperature (70F? 74F? or...???F). Heated seats help but won't be enough soon...which I'm sure will only drop gas mileage Thanks! Greg
  19. 2018 titanium with ~ 3,000 miles. Using the auto AC - it seems wholly inaccurate, meaning not cold enough to reflect the setting. At 71F auto setting, it doesn't cool well. Yesterday, I tried max AC for the first time and surprisingly, it feels cool, but not cold. Anyone else seeing inaccurate readings with theirs? Today on the drive home, I'll be using a temperature probe in the vents to measure actual F-temp output and report back tomorrow. Greg
  20. 2018 titanium. Noticing, especially on the highway, that the car tends to drift within lanes. This reminds me of older car behavior when steering was much less precise. I do run tire pressure high around 48 PSI, but my other vehicles (including another cmax), also with higher PSIs, do not exhibit this behavior. While it's not as extreme as in older cars, it is noticeable. Anyone else notice slight drifting with their cmax? Thanks! Greg
  21. FYI...Ford recalling some 2011 - 2015 plug-ins due to cord-catching-fire issues: https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/ford-ev-charging-cable-recall/ Easy recall. Exchange your charging cable. Done. Greg
  22. In case anyone is looking for better all weather mats, after googling and finding many sellers, found YitaWalmart selling their decent Yita mats for about $40 cheaper than most others ($80 versus $120+). Of course I haven't installed them yet, but they're supposed to fit and look to be comparable to weathertech for a lot less $$$ Greg
  23. In the interest of better mileage via better wind resistance, seems newer cars suffer from buffeting more and more. Not sure if rain guards would help reduce that, but it might. Greg
  24. Thanks! Will check it out. Greg
