  1. Oh man, glad you're okay. Really loved the look of your C-Max Hybrid 'ST'. Sad to see it totalled. Let us know how it goes insurance and finding a replacement!
  2. I had the same issue with the 2014 that I bought second hand. As SnowStorm suggested, I got mine through wrecking yard. Check out https://www.car-part.com/ it lists parts from lots of wrecking yards nationwide.
  3. So happy for you. Finally! Keen to hear your impressions (both initial and longer term). And look at all that trunk space! The Ford hybrids/PHEVs of the C-Max's era were so poorly packaged.
  4. Video it, and put it on YouTube ? I've watched Escape and Focus upgrades, and they look a little tricky in parts, but otherwise completely doable.
  5. Glad to have you here. How much did you spend on your transmission fix? Did go down the salvage route?
  6. Oh, yeah. The press release says it has an "in-house-designed and manufactured electric traction motor". The release also mentions a CVT. I'm still suspecting it's the same eCVT setup as before, but I could very well be wrong. Both the Escape and Maverick will have a 2.5L Atkinson cycle 4-cyl. The Escape makes a total of 200hp, while the Maverick will only have 191hp. Escape Hybrid is FWD or AWD, while the Maverick Hybrid is FWD only.
  7. Given that the drivetrain will be shared with the Escape, it'll be an eCVT. Journalists just write CVT as shorthand for a stepless transmission even if it's a Ford/Toyota style eCVT.
  8. Ford just launched the Maverick pickup this morning. Based on the Bronco Sport and Escape, it has a unibody structure (unlike the Ranger and F-150). It starts at just under $20k with a standard FWD 2.5 liter hybrid (2 liter turbo is optional with FWD or AWD). Given the starting the price, I'm expecting the interior quality to be more like the EcoSport than our C-Maxes.
  9. There was potential transmission problems with earlier models. These were fixed with cars built August 2015 and later. I'd suggest an SEL or a model equipped with a reversing camera. Makes parking a lot easier. Also has the bigger screen. Not sure if all SELs have powered tailgates, but if you can find a car with one, it helps a lot.
  10. I think the supply chains and tech for mass scale chip building are mainly in China & Taiwan. It would take a lot of time, effort and skilled labor to bring that to the US. Apple wanted to do something like that for the Mac Pro, but the didn't. In the end they just did final assembly in the US.
  11. Glad to have you here! And glad that you like your C-Max. As an ex-New Yorker & still living on Hudson, I see quite a few C-Maxes around. The S-Max is Mondeo based, while the C-Max is based on the Focus. If Ford had brought the Grand C-Max or S-Max to the US, it would've been just the right size for us, but the C-Max is brilliant for city living as it can squeeze into spots a lot of other cars can't fit into! Also, side note, the S-Max is now available in Europe with a 2.5-liter hybrid! 2021 Ford S-Max Hybrid, Galaxy Hybrid: Dying MPVs go out green (betweentheaxles.net)
  12. I live right next to NYC, and when I first got my 2014 SEL Hybrid (second hand last year), I too had the gas engine starting up every dang time even when I just needed to move the car to other side of the street for street cleaning on a nice warm day. My problem was that I had EV+ enabled. This feature detects when you're near home, and switches the car to all EV mode. Which is nice and all, but it often meant my battery went from 3/4 full to 1/4 because when I'm near home, I have to stop every 1000ft for a traffic light or stop sign. After I turned EV+ off, the car HVB is often 1/2 to 3/4 full when I get back to a parking spot near home. That way if it's not too cold out, and I just need to move my car a few spaces or down the street, I can do it without the engine starting.
  13. Is the GA 2017 C-Max an SE or Titanium? Still the price difference isn't usually that big.
  14. For me, my mileage is at its best in spring and fall when its warm enough to drive around without the heater and cool enough to do without A/C.
  15. Used car prices are up everywhere due to high new car prices, and chip shortage production problems. I'm still amazed at how cheap gas is here in the US. I regularly pay $2.75/gal. Back in my homeland, prices were more like US$4/gal or more.
  16. Not long after I first got our C-Max Hybrid a year ago, I managed to do just over a mile purely in EV. This was primarily down hill, and with a stop sign or traffic light every few hundred feet (I live in the city). Yesterday, whilst taking the kid home from the park, I nearly made it all the way home without using any gas. It would've been all EV, but I had a small section right near home where I had someone behind me and the road was slightly uphill.
  17. How long have you had your car? Did you get new tires or have the car serviced?
  18. That's a real shame. I was really tempted to buy a C-Max from Carvana before I found one at local dealership. I'd inspect the photos of the car on their website super closely to see if the scrapes. Also contact your customer service rep about it, and see if you can get a discount or something from them.
  19. I considered replacing the Sync 2 unit in mine with a salvaged Sync 3, but it just seemed like too much work in the end. How hard was the swap for you?
  20. Fingers crossed for you. When I posted the WAV file initially back in the middle of 2020, @SnowStorm thought it probably wasn't a transmission issue as it could only heard outside the car (or inside with great effort).
  21. Let me know how it goes. I had my car serviced (just an oil change) a while back, but I didn't ask them about the metallic sound because it was winter and I couldn't hear it all with the windows up. In fact, when I've been driving with the windows lately this spring I've barely heard the sound, so it might be something to do with my brakes or wheel alignment (I got the latter fixed when I got new tires fitted).
  22. Do your transmission grinding noise get louder and louder over time, or did it just suddenly appear one day?
  23. Greetings! We all love our C-Maxes here, even those that have moved on or are moving on to other cars. Is this your first hybrid? What are you trading up from? (If you don't mind me asking)
  24. I think my car made a similar sound (and it still does but to lesser degree). Does it sound like what I've attached? metallic noise(1).wav
