One Year Anniversary Report
ScubaDadMiami replied to ScubaDadMiami's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
I have the reverse of most people. I get 60+ MPG in winter, when I don't run the air conditioner. It's the summer that lowers my MPG, which is right around 50 MPG. Not that I am complaining! :) -
The CVT of the C-Max is spoiling me for other vehicles
ScubaDadMiami replied to BobJustBob's topic in General Discussion
My previous vehicle was a Nissan Murano with a CVT. I guess that I didn't really notice any change, since I was already used to the smooth shift. -
One Year Anniversary of C-Max Ownership

There are lots of shortcuts. Try just jumping to the final command; it works very often. -
Well worth it. A little wax makes it shine nicely, and being able to touch up keeps it that way.

I rarely touch the screen. I do almost everything by voice commands. You'll love that, once you start using it enough to become experienced at it.

One Year Anniversary Report

The cards are just rolling out to Ford dealers, and many of them do not even know about it. I got mine from the same source mentioned in this post. -
I already posted my 7,500 Mile Report. So, rather than repeat it, I will add a few comments, now that it is a year since I picked up my C-MAX from Al Packer Ford. My Fuelly numbers continue to rise as I have matured my techniques. We'll see how they come out after my 4,000+ mile trip that starts in a few days; I expect it to drop from all of the highway driving. Still, a Lifetime 50 MPG after a year is pretty great, especially with all of the air conditioned driving that I do! I just did the 10,000 mile service (at just over 9,000 miles), and I changed to 0W20 oil. It's too soon to say if there is any change for the better, from that. I had a few scratches, which I touched up using the Ford YZ/Oxford White touch up kit, and it came out great. Of course, I found another small chip right after that. So, I will be back to this at some point in the future. I just installed the A5 card to NAV, so that I can have any updates for my big cross country trip. No issues. I tested a few times since the install. It's been a great first year!

I finally got to touching up the scratches, and it came out great! First, I sanded with 800 grit sandpaper to get the edges of the scratches nice and smooth, ready to accept the touch up paint. I used the Ford touch up paint (comes with both the brush and the pen built in). I added two coats, sanded smooth, added another coat, sanded, added a last coat, and after very light sanding (using the part of the sand paper that was already worn), I applied some polishing compound, blending in to the surrounding paint. After all of this, I took my C-MAX to the detailer, who did a wash, clay application, and a good waxing of the entire vehicle, which made it all come together, evening out any differences in the tones. Yes, if you get to within a six inches of the spot, knowing where the scratch was located, you can see a slight difference. Other than that, you can stand right next to the spot, and it looks fantastic. You'd never know! Alas, after all of this, I found another paint chip on the hood. I didn't notice it before the detailing; I thought it was just some bird poop. So, I will have to touch this up at some point in the future. At least I know that it can be touched up to look as good as new. Oxford White rules!

Disappointing Sighting
ScubaDadMiami replied to ScubaDadMiami's topic in Sightings - C-MAX Hybrid's Spotted!
She didn't care. Sine her company pays for everything, she had no interest. -
While on my exercise walk with Slowpoke in his stretch limo, I spotted this gray Energi. The driver said that it's a company car that she takes home. However, when I asked her about her MPGe, she didn't even know where to look! It was only 38.5. She said that she does long highway 75+ MPH type driving, and never charges. Neither she nor the company have charging stations. Why would a company buy an Energi and then not really use it? What a waste! :nonono:

By any chance, is the car parked in a steep incline when this happens?
-
Unless you are in the stop and go of rush hour, I know the routes that avoid traffic, where that is possible. Also, I was just lucky enough to have it work out. On the other hand, I did intend for it to work out this way; it was not just luck.

My arms would love armrests on long trips. Count me in!

Just hit the paddle and say "I'm hungry." I forget the rest of the prompts, but you can go right from there. ;) Also, the more I use voice commands, the more shortcuts I find. I am finding that, where a command can only mean one possible thing, MFT often works. For example, I can just say "91.3," which is actually FM station 91.3, without having to start off with the other prior steps. "Temperature 73 degrees," is another example. There are a whole bunch of them that work that way. The only thing is that you have to remember what that last command step is for this to work. It took a while, but it works very well for me. -
Getting the best possible MPG
ScubaDadMiami replied to Seth7721's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
You should check out this thread. I EV up to 13-18 MPH, followed by a brief 2 Bar burn (to get you rolling at a good acceleration rate) and then I quickly back down to @1.75, then finish off at 2,000 RPM/@1.2 Bar to speed (or just above). So, it is not like I lock onto one acceleration rate; it varies but is smooth and keeps up with traffic pretty nicely. Oh, and it gives pretty good numbers, too. :) -
I am getting ready to take a 4,000+ mile trip, and I am trying to be prepared for issues that always seem to happen. For my first line of defense, I purchased the extended warranty from Ford for 7 years/125,000 miles. I also purchased the TireCare extended warranty for 7 years. I have roadside protection included in my GEICO auto insurance policy. Last, I have AAA. I called Ford with some questions about the tires, and I gave various scenarios to see what would happen in the case of damage to the tires while on this trip. I learned that the policy covers up to 100 miles of towing. (It does not matter if you require more than one tow; the total just needs not to exceed 100 miles, per the person that spoke to me.) While this sounds like it should not be an issue, my last break down (another vehicle) happened late on a Saturday, in a small town that had everything closed on Sundays. (Also, not all Ford dealerships have service departments open on weekends or Sundays. So, I had to wait in a motel for two days to get service done on that vehicle.) I do not want a repeat of that experience. Based upon this, I spent an extra $11 for upgrading my AAA policy to Premier, which covers 200 miles of towing, should I need it. Second, I also discussed scenarios where there would be a problem in locating the tire for my C-MAX. I found out that the TireCare warranty does not mean that we can only go to Ford dealers for tire issues. We can go to any "licensed" facility, which also means any Michelin dealer. That adds some more options to the mix. Last, I am carrying a tire plug kit with me. Some AAA places will plug a tire,on the spot, for an additional fee. I did not elect to purchase a spare tire. I hope it all works out.

The dealership where I just had my 10,000 mile service performed had several, some were 2013 and some were 2014.

C-MAX Fuel Mileage. What are you getting?
ScubaDadMiami replied to robertlane's topic in Fuel Mileage
I believe that it was found that that 1 per 10 rule was found to be too risky, and that the standard changed to the 2 second rule.
