  1. But as an accomplished efficiency driver, you'd pull big FE numbers with the CMax too. I think the lower numbers reflect winter temps and, more importantly, a large contingent of first time hybrid owners who haven't learned the ropes yet. As you well know, Prius chat forum members came up with a questionnaire for new owner complaints about low mpg's so maybe we should do one too! LOL ;) One cool feature (pun intended): one can roll all four windows down with a long press of the unlock button on the remote. That will remove a lot of pent up BTU's in the cabin and combined with driving a few blocks before rolling them up will lessen the cool down load on the a/c.
  2. A recent press release from Ford said the Prius and CRV are the top two trade in vehicles on the CMAX. Welcome to the club! :yahoo:
  3. Other than when performing the 11 step learn mode, I don't power off/on the car when I drop/pickup my kids at their school. A week later, EV+ now doesn't come on there. Hmmm. Battery is always full so that isn't it.
  4. The slo-mo replay video of his reaction to his putt on the 18th which got him into the playoff was simply......... stunning. I wanted both of them to win but he earned it.
  5. Sure there are downsides; the additional running costs as you pointed out and, just as importantly, waste. Most folks buy a hybrid to lessen their use of oil as much as possible. Changing early is shooting yourself in the foot. LOL
  6. Try to fill up at the same pump and at the same time of day/temps for the most accurate fill readings.
  7. Follow the owners manual not your dealership service program. Just like oil change businesses, they will shorten the interval for more return business.
  8. IIRC in the 600+ mile tank thread, one of the members ran out and filled up to 13.8 gallons.
  9. Is it isolated to one side? Unfortunately, the quite running of the hybrid design does allow one to focus (bad pun) on other sounds.
  10. Yes, I find it too low. I'm 5'10" and my solution is to raise the power seat (SEL) about as high as it will go (still tons of headroom for me) and use the top of the door panel as an armrest. It's not as soft but the angle is more natural to me. A unintended side benefit of this is my wife at 5'3" no longer feels the need to move the seat more forward when she drives. Doesn't make sense but OK. This is the first car EVER that we've owned to share the drivers positions. YAY!!! Her Civic EX coupe fits me like a proverbial glove; every contact point seems perfect and falls naturally to place. I literally moan a little "ahh" as I slip into it and shut the door but it's the getting in and out of it that's a PITA; more like a true sports car and even the longer doors of the coupe design don't help. I still prefer the Cmax and consider the armrest a minor wart in an otherwise great design.
  11. IIRC your cmax is a company car. When I had a work vehicle and a company gas card, I didn't either! :) I have kids so my "haulin' ass" all the time ended with them. I now enjoy driving for "max score". It's like a video game; a challenge but within the law.
  12. AFAIK yes. Trips go to 9999 as far as has been determined by our high mileage folks. Hopefully they go higher bot no one has reported that yet.
  13. On Board Diagnostics No button on the outside panel or inside of mine.
  14. SAT radio allows pause/RR/playback. My previous car wouldn't allow Sirus/xm to be recorded. Cool!
  15. This one truly was hidden: Room for storage under the rear seats. I put an extra large golf umbrella there. Disclaimer: use at your own risk, OM says not to store anything there as it could be damaged when the seat backs are lowered.
  16. This isn't hidden as it's covered in the OM but being able to change the rear hatch open height is a great feature.
  17. IIRC, that's a feature that's only available on the Parking Assist Package. Edit: according to the owners manual, the P button is located in the same position occupied by my power door button. Is this an either/or proposition?
  18. Heated outside mirrors. This isn't a "cool feature" for me as I'll never use them. LOL

    Test Drive

Hybrids in general and, it seems the CMax in particular, meet their city ratings much easier than hwy. But as has been pointed out, the 'max will do well given a long enough stretch so it can fill up the battery. A short test drive on a new drivetrain delivers lackluster results. BTDT on two test drives but I finally got a 48 hr test drive and found out what it really was capable of and purchased. A couple of days ago, I did a 200 mile interstate leg and by then had reached 45.9mpg after beginning the leg at 40mpg (eco cruise at 65-70mph). My current tank (80/20 city/hwy daily ratio) is 46.2mpg and my car isn't broken in (1100 miles). It sounds like you get good results from any car so you'd do well with the cmax too.
  20. amoredsaint, I know from another thread you're coming from a Prius. I had a 2010 prius level 3 with those projector beam headlights and frankly find the c-max units just as good and maybe a tad better on high beams.

You're quoting hwy figures. Is this a hwy commuter purchase or everyday car? If the latter, you can forget getting anywhere near those EPA figures. If the former, the EPA hwy tests are at 55-60mph not 70-80mph freeway/interstate speeds. FWIW
  22. You might want to remind him he has an EPA rated midsize car while yours is a nicer built, roomier, faster, more powerful, EPA classified large size car with more features. In a nice way, remember he is your boss! :)
  23. In the warmer months, yes this is a reasonable expectation and once you learn the proper ways to drive a hybrid you can expect even better. My lead footed wife's commuter car is EPA rated at 36mpg hwy but she only gets 29-30mpg. The car is only 1/2 of the efficiency equation.
