Well, after 10 years and 40,000 miles we decided to trade our 2013 Energi in on a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.  It's been a good car except for the drop in battery capacity a few years ago (down to 13-15 ev miles) and all the recalls.  We are leasing and in 3 years hope to get back to a plug-in of some sort.  Looking at the paper work I was reminded and surprised that it had cost over $40,000 back in 2013.  Not much different from the value assigned to our Toyota in the lease.

Anyway, have enjoyed and benefited from the C-Max forums (RIP Energi forum) and thanks to all who have helped me make my Ford C-Max Energi ownership expedience more enjoyable and productive.  Pat

Happy trails.  Hope the RAV4 is kind to you.

About my car:  2014 Cmax, got a smoking deal on it with only 40K on it last year.  I've already put 10k on her.  Garage kept and probably driven only to church and bingo. (5K miles a year...)

Welcome, I guess the previous owner bought a new car with the bingo winnings.

  3. My radio failed to turn on during a heat wave once when it was about 115F.  Everything else worked ok and after it cooled down

    the radio started working again.

Your problem sounds more like a fuse or electrical connection problem since many areas were affected.

If you can get a electrical schematic for the car look at what fuses/wires are common for the dash displays/radio etc.

Might be very tough to troubleshoot that problem.  When working on problems like this I used cold spray and heat gun to try to

    localize the problem area.

    Good Luck!

  4. You should feel a large increase in air flow in the upper vents when you close the lower vents.

Had a similar problem on my Ford Explorer which may not be related to your problem.

The problem was where the solenoid push rod attached to the seal plate for the floor vent the plastic was broken.

Was able to fix with a small cable tie to connect the solenoid push rod to the seal plate.

This saved a lot of $ and work as I was able to do the repair without taking the dash apart and it lasted at least 10 years until the car was later sold.

  5. Was changed in 2014.

    Mar 12 2014 4717 -2014 Fusion and MKZ Hybrid/Energi - Oil Viscosity Specification Change

The oil viscosity recommendation of 5W-20 on the oil fill caps on some 2014 Fusion and MKZ Hybrid/Energi vehicles may appear to conflict with the owner guide and other service publications which recommend 0W-20 oil. Both 0W-20 oil and 5W-20 oil are approved for use in these vehicles.

I was uncomfortable with what seemed to be a little sexism (though maybe you'd have said the same if you were married to a man) ... it's a simple enough thing for most people to do without your being "around" -- but the salient thing here is, YES, so glad you found out that this is an omnipresent problem with these jalopies, and I'm so glad you got it resolved! YAY

bad decision: Your comment made me laugh.   I can only guess that you didn't understand what I was trying to say.

cr08 has best long term solution but you may have to pay a repair fee.

We took the car a month or so ago to our local repair shop and they diagnosed the problem (or what they thought it was) and reprogrammed the system computer and the car worked fine for about 2 weeks. About a week or so ago, I was driving it to work and the audio system started malfunctioning in an odd way. The system would turn on, but the volume control would not work and I could not turn it off. Fortunately, the volume was not too high! It had done this before and normally this was a sign that the car was about to die again, and that is what it did. This past weekend I jumped it and it started up, but after about 5-10 minutes it was dead again. Normally when I jumped it the car would work for a few hours. I guess the only thing left for us to do is take it to Ford and see what they can do, but I think the fix may be more money than what we want to put into it. If we do not take it to Ford, it will turn into an expensive decoration for our driveway! ?

The bolded text above tells me your sync was locking up.  If you don't pull the fuse 79 right away it would drain your 12v battery.
