  1. Ford (ford@em3893.syncnavigation.com) just sent an email note offering to update my navigation maps in my 2017 C-Max with SYNC 3. The fine print says: "The current Map version is NA 2 21." According to the display in my car, I currently have NA 1 19. It appears that I bought an upgrade in January 2022 and tried to install it. So perhaps some folks can help me out here..... 1. Since the current map in the car is NA 1 19, does that mean that my upgrade in January 2022 was not installed correctly? I did it from downloaded files. 2. Does it make sense to upgrade to NA 2 21? Ford wants $109 for a single upgrade or $199 for a five-year subscription.
  2. Hi , lates navigation update on your car here www.satnavigation.co.uk original map store
  3. This Deals with the Ford Nav A7 Chip problem of improperly locating the position of your vehicle on the map and Ford's Interpretation of the ESP warranty coverage for the Nav system. This happened on my 2014 C-Max Hybrid. In 2016 I bought the Nav SD upgrade card referred to as the A7 chip for $150. It seemed to be working but then in July of 2017 it started locating my car off to the right of its actual position by maybe 100feet. It showed me driving through ponds and on road parallel to my car. If I had a destination set it would see me on the wrong road and ask me to take turns to get back to the programed route even though I was already on the right road. I found several other accounts on the Ford forums, though they were all 2013 models and older so far. The overall results from the forams seemed to be the GPS module could be bad and need replacing. I have the ESP coverage so I though I would be set. I brought it to the dealership where they were able to duplicate the problem (as it was an intermittent problem) and told me they had found a problem with the A7 chip syncing up with the system. They mentioned they had just had an Explorer in recently with the same problem. They ended up reprograming the Nav card and the GPS unit and charged me $322.50 because Ford considers it an upgrade and is not covered under the ESP. I asked about contesting this and they told me to contact Ford Customer service. I got in contact with the Ford Customer Relationship Center and explained, they said they would reach out to the dealership and I should get an email in 2 Business days. 3 Business days later no email. Called back and they said there was a problem with the case and told me a member of the customer care team would contact me within the next two business days. A Martin Cruse called me. He apologized fro my problem with the nav system but regretted to inform me that "Ford Corporation would not reimburse this issue" as it was considered an upgrade and not covered under warranty. I told him I paid $150 for the Ford recommended upgrade SD card and I found that the system required the reprograming to make it work properly so I could not see how it could be considered an upgrade. How could he justify this added expense just to make it work. His mantra and answer to most of my questions was the "Ford corporation will not reimburse you for this issue". I mentioned that this meant my Nav upgrade went from $150 to $472.50 and felt that was unreasonable. I got his mantra as a response. I told him that to me it seemed that ford was simply looking for any excuse or technicality for not honoring their ESP and that I was going to have to give serious consideration to purchasing it in the future. Same Mantra. He then said he could offer in compensation a 3 year maintenance protection plan. I never bothered to find out if this was free or discounted as in my mind this was just another way to get my car in to them so they could find other technicalities and excuses to get more money. He said that was fine I did not have to accept this offer. I had started out calm but by this point not so much. He then asked me if there was anything else he could assist me with, I told him he had not provided me any assistance to begin with. He then thanked me for being a Ford customer which in my mind sounded more like thanks for giving us your money, we appreciate that, you not so much. My wife and I have been loyal Ford customers for over 30 years and we have bought 7 new cars from them. We were always proud of the fact that Ford did not take taxpayers money from the big automotive bail out several years ago. We tend to buy a car about every 5 years and have added the ESP from when we could afford to. But I have to say Ford has let us down. I warn anyone considering the Navigation upgrade to think twice as it's $150 cost from ford could turn into considerably more. It is my hope that someone in Ford Corporation actually monitors this who really does care about return customers and will act on it. I will be sending a letter to Ford if I can figure out who would be best to send it to. I have other details about the SD card , who writes the program and who makes it all subcontracted by ford if anyone wants it.

  6. This today from OASIS: 2016 Multiple Vehicles Built With SYNC 3 – SYNC 3 Does Not Use A SD Card For Navigation Equipped Vehicles 2016 vehicles equipped with SYNC 3 do not use a Navigation SD card. SD cards are not used on SYNC 3 systems and SD Cards are non-warrantable items for SYNC 3 equipped vehicles. If equipped with Navigation, the navigation map data resides in the SYNC 3 Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM). Unique APIMs are released for SYNC 3 Navigation equipped and non-Navigation equipped vehicles and these APIMs are not interchangeable. A Navigation APIM cannot be installed on a non-Navigation equipped vehicle in an attempt to add the option. Refer to the Owner Information literature, SYNC 3 Supplement, for SYNC 3 Navigation details and map update information.
  7. This today from OASIS: SSM 45215 - SYNC/MyFord And MyLincoln Touch - Navigation Displays Incorrect - Unable To Locate Vehicle - Built On Or Before 9/30/2014Some 2013-2015 vehicles equipped with SYNC and/or MyFord Touch, MyLincoln Touch and built on or before 9/30/2014 may exhibit a voice prompt indicating SYNC Services Traffic, Directions or Information (TDI) is unable to locate the vehicle. MyFord Touch equipped vehicles with navigation may also exhibit the vehicle location displayed off road from the current vehicle position, the last known vehicle location being displayed instead of current location, a screen message indicating a Navigation Fault. Reprogram the Global Positioning Satellite Module (GPSM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 96.02 or higher.
  8. From OASIS, Mar. 2nd: SSM 44961 - 2011-2015 Various Vehicles - Global Positioning Satellite Module (GPSM) - Inaccurate Location Or Offset Displayed After Seasonal Tire Change Some 2011-2015 Vehicles with MFT or MLT and Navigation may display incorrect vehicle position after installing seasonal tires. These inaccuracies will correct/recalibrate over time if tires are within the recommended size. Use Owners Guide to verify proper size, load index, and speed rating. If the tires are not the correct specification for the vehicle, do not perform a repair attempt. If proper tires are installed and the concern persists refer to Work Shop Manual, Section 415-00 for diagnosis by DTC or symptom. Note: Removing GPSM power for 2 minutes will clear GPSM calibration and greatly reduce the time it takes for the system to correct/recalibrate. The system will typically recalibrate within 20 minutes of driving around 40 MPH with a clear view of the sky and a turn performed every few miles with the GPSM power restored.
  9. So, we bought a 2014 CMax SEL with 303A package for my wife 10 days ago. I have noticed that the location shown by the built-in navigation is off by 100-200ft, it would show us driving off to the side of the road (or even another parallel road) and behind or ahead of our actual location. This was in areas with good visibility to open skies. Have other people experienced this (on 2014 or 2013)? Is this something we should be getting the dealer to look at? Thanks, Anil
  10. Does anyone know if it's possible to change the voice of the navigation speaker? I know other systems allow this. I cannot stand the voice of the woman telling me directions. I won't be able to use that feature if I can't select a better voice. Couldn't find any reference to this in the manual. Help!
  11. Does anyone know which manufacturer's navigation system is on 2013 C-Max Hybrid ? ( I.e, Garmin, Magellan, Tom Tom, ..other? This was our first time with gps NAV on a car, used it a lot especially on vacation in unfamiliar cities. We sometimes "made an extra stop, or chose to take a different street or different interstate exit after entering the destination, while driving. NAV system always tried to "help" us get back on the "computed route" (mostly saying make a legal u- turn etc). But it was good about re-calculating, and picking up where we actually were successfully. Would love to know which mfr NAV ? thanks!
  12. Hello Anyone here know of, or has Ford released any Map updates for C-Max My Ford Touch navigation system with the SD card? Lots of construction and road changes happening and would like to see the map updated. George
  13. We just got back from our first road trip in the C-Max. By *road trip*, i mean anything over 100 miles, and this one was 239 or so each way. I filled up the tank Friday after work at a station about 1 mile from our house and zeroed everything out. We left about 8:20 Saturday morning......Jerry, Asia and I........with a full cooler, 1 main piece of luggage each, a small extra bag for me, a bag of goodies for the grandkid, and I think that's about it. Temps were in the 40s to start. We drove about 3 miles to get on the xpressway and charge the batts. I was driving. Got up to 68 w/ a 3/4 battery and set the ECO-cruise. I drove all but about the last 10 miles. We were on freeways the whole way, really nice ones, I might add, not Michigan roads. 24 is brand new and there was next-to-no traffic. No construction. No nuttin' but us and the road. We had the climate control set on defrost and recirc. It was Ohio, so the speed limit was 65. I set the NAV for our daughter's address before we left. At about mile 65 or so it told us to make a left turn onto a non-existent road. Then, suddenly we were, according to the NAV screen, in the middle of a field somewhere near Chicago, when, in fact, we were SW of Toledo, OH. (I have pix, which I will post later). Lost Part 1 by JellyBean439, on Flickr Luckily we knew where we *really* were, reset everything, and continued on for another ......not really sure how many miles, but I can check if anyone is interested. We got to another point that we remembered from a previous trip, on old HWY 24, which had recently been redone. Our daughter told us after her last trip that *there was no more construction on that part* so we drove happily on. Jerry kept saying, * But I see the highway over there, and there are cars going both ways.* We kept driving happily on, listening to the NAV..... we even passed an entrance to 24, but kept on according to the NAV.....until the road dead-ended. We turned around and went back to the entrance we had seen and got on 24, only to be told to *make a U-turn* over and over until the NAV finally caught up with were we were. I played with the speed, seeing the mpg go down at 69, back up at 68. We arrived at our daughter, SIL, and granddaughter's home in Carmel, IN with 239 miles on the tank and an average MPG of 38.2, 18.4 EV, using 6.25 gal. of gas. The car sat from Saturday afternoon until today about noon. I reset Trip 2 to record the trip home separately. Jerry started the drive and after getting up to speed with a 3/4 batt, set the ECO-cruise to 70. After the drive to get to the freeway, the average MPG at that point was 38.1. The car was loaded with even more stuff.........we were bringing things back for a friend of our daughter's who has a baby younger than our granddaughter. Jerry drove the first 100 or so mile. It was much warmer, and we set the AC at 71* Several times the NAV lost us completely (I have pix, which I will post later.) Several times, again, it told us to *make a U-turn* which we ignored, because, thankfully, we knew where we were. I drove the second half of the return trip, also at 70mph. Lost Part 2 by JellyBean439, on Flickr Finally, after watching the arrow depicting us wander aimlessly in a field, I cancelled the destination. The rest of the drive was uneventful. We made a short side trip to pick up dinner and arrived home 248 miles on the return trip, 42.5 mpg @ 70 mph, 5.82 gal used. Return from Indy by JellyBean439, on Flickr The total round trip was 487 with 43.4 ev, 40.3 mpg and 12.8 gal. Indy Roundtrip by JellyBean439, on Flickr Right now, I'm in the *red zone* with 20 or so miles left to the tank according to the car computer. I have 13 miles to make 500. My trip to work tomorrow is about 20 miles. I will pass at least 3 gas stations on the way. What do y'all think I should do? Go for it or chicken out? Inquiring minds want to know. I'll check in tomorrow morning. I'm going to bed now :>)
  14. HotPotato

    phone mount

    From the album: HotPotato Pix

Anyone wondering how to mount their smartphone close at hand ought to check out ProClip's setup for the C-Max. I'm using their dash mount and it works great to keep my iPhone always close at hand for navigation etc. When using the Maps app, the next-turn directions are easily in sight at the top of the screen. When I want to talk to Siri (to find a gas station, specify an address I want directions to, dictate a text message, etc.) I just push the Home button to summon her over the car's Bluetooth connection. You need not give up any functionality just because you didn't spring for the nav.
