ScubaDadMiami
I just ordered my C-Max. So, I haven't had a chance to poke around inside yet. It looks like the front foot wells are pretty much mirror images of each other, except for the pedals and the foot rest for the driver. In my test drive, I simply hated that foot rest. I wonder if I could just pull back the carpet, and take out that foot rest, or maybe do something to reshape it. Has anyone had a peek under that carpet yet? wab and JonC 1
wab
I've never liked dead pedals, this one is REALLY bad. JonC
pkay
My SEL 302 package didn't come with the foot rest...guess that is a good thing........
ScubaDadMiami
My SEL 302 package didn't come with the foot rest...guess that is a good thing........By "foot rest," I mean the component below the carpet for the left foot rest for the driver. Are you saying that yours did not come with one?
wab
I had the carpet pulled back while modifying ours to follow our motor home. The dead pedal would be easy to remove BUT the carpet is formed around it.You would end up with a big useless lump in the carpet.
armoredsaint
i wouldn't even call it a footrest, just a oddly shaped piece with carpet on top... now on my BMW, that's a real dead pedal...

I just want someone to be brave enough to actually see what is under the pedal base, just to make sure that it would work from the standpoint of under the carpet. Maybe there is a big anchor pin coming from the floor that can't be removed, etc.
pkay
I don't have this foot rest at all?
plus 3 golfer
I don't have this foot rest at all? So, what does the carpet look like where the dead pedal (foot rest) should be? The dead pedal is the floor area where the finger of my mat to the left of the brake pedal rests.
RachelnLa
They make a mat for the dead pedal yet the cmax mats themselves do to cover the dead pedal??!! That's insane. wab
ScubaDadMiami
I think that, even if I end out having to completely recarpet my C-MAX, it will be worth it to get that stupid footrest out. I just want to know that I can take the dead pedal out before undertaking such an experiment. If anybody happens to be pulling up his/her carpet, please post photos of that dead pedal. ceemax71
The "footrest" might actually be a passageway for the high voltage cable. Check page 17 of this link that shows "no-cut" zones for emergency occupant extraction. http://elvsolutions.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/C-Max%20Battery%20Removal_Final.pdf I could be wrong, but It looks like the high voltage cable might be right behind the "footrest". Edsel
The hybrid badge on the side is not for bragging rights, It's a warning for first responders. That's quite shocking!

I finally had a chance to pull the carpet back again and take some pictures. There are some wires under the piece of foam, but they're low voltage. I pulled the foam a little and it (at least ours) seems like it would just pull out. Maybe this summer I'll pull it out and cover the wires with something smaller. LOOKS like a very easy DIY, you just pull the carpet from under the throttle and brake pedals. If you decide to go for it, please post what you did and how it worked out/ Thanks again. :)
wab
The only thing holding me back is, what if the carpet doesn't look/feel right.Looks like it would take some trim panel removal to get IT back in. Trim panels always have a "trick/secret" way of removal so I'm a little leery about removing IT.
captainkey
All - I removed mine. It is just a piece of plastic attached to the floor. I sliced the carpet so the folding parts would overlap each other, then put a thick plastic mat over it. I am attempting to attach pics. JonC
Wait, so that stupid thing that keeps me from putting my left foot on the floor is removable? Right. I'm taking it out tomorrow. That's come to be the thing I hate most about my C-Max, it actually causes hip pain on long trips.
