I need some Easy-to-Understand help...

I just cannot sit here and read all of these threads pertaining to the upgrades.  There are so many, and most of the replies are over my head.  So I will just ask my questions, although they probably have been asked.  Just please be patient with me.

I took my C-max in for all of the recalls and updates.

I did notice that my headliner looks kind of bad:  no finished edge at all.  Are there any others out there getting anything done about this?

I read something about a SYNC update now producing a "status" display.  How do you get to that?  I've looked everywhere.  Can't find it.

This one is really stupid:  I know that ICE means the gas engine, but what does it stand for?

I will say, I'm not initially happy at all with my car's visit to the dealer.  I should have been at 46 mpg, at least, after filling up in town and driving home.  I barely made 40.  Normally after filling up, it literally stays at 999 mpgs all through the parking lot, quickly falling into the 80's, 60's, 50's, then upper 40's.  I average 45 mpgs per tank.

Thanks for all of your help.  Just remember that I am a Grammie to two great grandkids, and I speak very little mechanical car hybrid lingo.    :)

Not that I have seen posted on this forum - and if it has not been posted here it probably hasn't happened.

I did spend 5 minutes this morning trying to figure out why all of a sudden there was a nice smooth rubber strip between the front edge of the headliner and the windshield - and then I realized I was sitting in my 1996 Honda Odyssey.  Doh!

Status of what?  Do you mean the power diagram that shows the flow of gasoline generated energy and electric energy?

Internal combustion engine.

Thanks.  They SYNC display was mentioned on a very long, active thread about being the guinea pig of the updates/recalls.  Somewhere near the end of the thread.  Just too long to read all of it, although I am sure there's a lot of good info in there.  Actually, I've never found a diagram that shows the flow of gas energy and elec energy.  Or are you talking about the ones on Engage, etc.?

The graphic being talked about is on the large middle display screen that starts up when you turn on your car with a nice ford symbol. If you touch the button at the bottom that looks like a road with some leaves growing from it you should get a display that shows your car with white and blue tracks that show the flow of energy and fuel. This will tell you what and when your battery is running and also if your engine is on and what it is doing. It will also have the t telling you why engine is on like engine on due to heater setting or on due to acceleration. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Bruce

Is there anyway to set a home screen on startup? Nav, climate, radio, etc?

No. I asked at my Synch Specialist appointment, just to make sure. I usually hit the paddle and say, "Show Map." I like a moving image. This helps prevent screen burn. Better than leaving it on the "home screen," as my Synch Specialist called it.

Thanks.  I thought that would be the case.  Was going to have it default to Nav if possible.

It's at the bottom of the home screen just to the right of the home (house) icon and just to the left of the settings (gears) icon.

Also, I think you only get this if you have the big (SYNC with My Ford Touch) screen in your car.

This is interesting.  First of all, I don't have that button.  But I DO have the big screen.  So I called Ford yesterday.  Spoke to two people.  The first lady told me how to activate SYNC, since I hadn't done that for the year I've had the car.  The dealer where we bought it had no clue when we picked it up how to operate everything.   Sigh.  Anyway, I am now activated.  So I asked about the Ford touch and she said I had it, that was the ability to have the "touch" screen.

I then went out and searched around more for the icon, but couldn't find it, so called Ford again.  Got a different person and told him the story of the missing icon/button.  He had no clue about it.  I told him about Ford Sync and how I just got it activated.  Then he asked about Ford touch and I told him what the earlier representative told me and that I had it.  He laughed out loud!  "No, that's not Ford Touch," he said, and proceeded to tell me about it.  Apparently I don't have it.  BUT, my window sticker says under the functional column:  SYNC W/ MYFORD TOUCH.

All of this help from Ford has me confused!  I'll be going back to the dealer next week because of the very weak mpgs now, so I'll talk to them about this also.

I have a feeling I'll learn more here than from them!!

And just in case you're curious: An Internal Combustion Engine is one where the fuel (gasoline) is burned in a closed space so that the burning fuel itself creates the pressure to drive the engine.

The phrase is in contrast to an "external combustion engine", where the fuel is burned outside of some closed space - think of an old steam engine train, where you would burn coal in regular pressures underneath the boiler to boil steam and make it expand.

Here’s some hopefully good info, links and another picture of the 3.5.1 upgrade, our temperature shows 53.

We don’t get the headliner recall, maybe someone who is satisfied can post a picture of their headliner.

If you’re still having MPG problems check this thread.

I can’t find the notice from Ford that they highly recommend to NOT use a wifi connection when doing these upgrades, maybe someone can post a link you can print.

Good luck

Another clue to indicate if you have the updated version of MFT is if the outside temperature is showing at the top of the screen.  Noah's picture shows 73 degrees.

You only see the outside temp if it is turned on in the settings menu.  When I had my 3.5.1 update done this feature was turned off.  I had to go into the settings menu and turn this feature on in order to get the outside temp to appear.
