Edsel
When I floor the gas to get around a vehicle or to merge into traffic it seems to want to keep accelerating when I let of the pedal. I have to hit the brake to slow it down. It doesn't feel like most cars Ive driven where there is instant loss of power when letting off the gas. I hope this makes sense. Anyone else notice this? wab
I do that a lot in west tx. never noticed any difference from any other car. Maybe a trip to the dealer for a demo ride with the service writer.
Stormy
With my last car, letting up on the accelerator provided a noticeable degree of immediate engine braking. It seems to me that the CMax maintains its speed much more - coasting instead of slowing to the degree I expect.

More like maintaing the speed you got up to vs the engine braking you are talking about. It's just kinda weird feeling.
drdiesel1
The eCVT has two rather large (MG2 is bigger then MG1) electric motors inside. They spin rotors to move the car and charge the battery. You're feeling the stored energy from those rotating masses. Normal ;) Edited October 28, 2013 by drdiesel1 Edsel
fotomoto
You're feeling the stored energy from those rotating masses. Normal ;) Plus the CMax is a heavy car. An object in motion :shift: tends to stay in motion...... Edited October 28, 2013 by fotomoto
drdiesel1
I'm sure the engine isn't cut off immediately, either :victory: Edited October 28, 2013 by drdiesel1
HotPotato
More disconcerting is that I floor it and nothing at all happens for a moment, presumably while the computer figures out how to respond. I suppose in actual time it is no different from a regular automatic car that has to register the change, unlock the torque converter, downshift, and build up revs, but it feels like forever when that semi is bearing down. But then that lovely C-Max power comes on and zoom!

After all, it is a hybrid :spend:
mtb9153
Funny I can't even speak for how Maxus reacts, since I've never really floored her in the 13 months I've had her. At least not for any long period like trying to overtake a slower car or truck.

wab
Will a prius chip the tires?
HannahWCU
Will a prius chip the tires?I know the CMax will! I have twice gotten the traction control to kick on while flooring my CMax! Once in the rain, I was trying to get it to do it. And once in the dry when accelerating and turning to merge into traffic.
drdiesel1
Will a prius chip the tires? My C wouldn't... Most new cars have traction control. The nanny won't let it ;)

Yes, it's a hybrid, but don't let that fool you :flyaway:
