Ford to recall about 850,000 cars to fix airbag deployment glitch

DOH!!!   I just bought a 2014 CMax Energi last night and wake up to this news. :doh:  I'm not worried and happy with my Energi and I think most everyone is used to recalls these days. ;)

Granted, 12M02 is warranty extension, and I got my 14B03 check... but my restrains control module died along with traction control, so they have to replace parts before doing those, and YES I have a bad seat back.

 

My service appt. is Oct. 2, and I will check seat heaters before and after! It'll be interesting to see what I get for a loaner car...

Just saw this on the CNN ticker under the main TV story. Said oh no. Glad my wife who will be getting a CMax eventually didn't see it. Glad they (Ford) are taking a quick response to solve it. Defects and issues happen all the time when it comes to humans and manufacturing (Ive beem a quality engineer for manufacturing companies my whole career of 25+ years) . It's never easy but with everything serialized and traceable back to the raw materials level in the automotive industry they will make sure to get every last one of the bad parts replaced in time.

This is the biggest problem. People hear recall and run off with their hair on fire before they even know

if the vehicle they own is even going to fall into the recall parameters. This recall is for 2013 productions up to Nov. 21st..

My C-Max is included in this recall.  I will keep my hair wet at all times to avoid spontaneous combustion.

Ours was in the recall as Tip was built in October 2013.  I notice now that the recalls were done that the indicator lights for the seat heat aren't working.  Heat is fine, but no lights.  I will let them know but not bother going back until the next check up date in February or so.

When replacing the Restraint Control Module (RCM), they probably forgot to reconnect the wiring harness that powers the seat heat lights.

 

According to a post on the Hybrid Fusion forum: 

 

The Center Console (CC) between the seats and part of the Center Stack needs to be removed to access the RCM, plus the SRS needs to be de-powered.

Removing the entire CC is a 11 point dis-assembly and requires some finesse.

 

I'm pretty sure RCM in C-Max is also in CC.
