Redshift
Just went to Ford's site to see if they have any upgrades for Sync 2. Since the site knows I have a 2015, they recognize me. Under the Sync tab, I cannot even click on anything, like choose your year. It's all greyed out. Guess us millions of Sync 2 owners are just left to fend for ourselves. This does not give me a good impression of Ford. The site has, in small text, a notice that the site is only for Sync 3. Thanks Ford. :-( Edited January 19, 2017 by Redshift
jestevens
Car companies are used to putting out a new redesign every few years and software upgrades happen a lot quicker than that. "Radios" were something that once used to never really change unless you bought third party. They have to have something to make you want to upgrade to the new model right? My friend has a Mercedes and the software in it is horrible, he's an XM subscriber and periodically the radio locks up when they do a channel update, searched a few forums and it seems to happen across their whole product line. He added the 360 panoramic camera as an option, which is really neat - but it's also supposed to have rear sonar sensor overlay on the screen and alarm like the C-MAX does - you have to literally be ready to hit the back bumper before it will alarm. I hate the slow responsiveness of MFT (errgh, typical Microsoft) but I actually like the interface compared to some of the other alternatives, I haven't had a chance to see the latest generation software though - it might be even better. The ads in MFT are a little annoying too, I really don't give a crap about "Marriott, Starbucks or Walmart"

Were you actually logged in: https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/sign-in.html Also, it sounds like you were viewing an article that pertained to the SYNC 3 system only. For example, this article is for the MyFord Touch system: https://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-technology/myford-touch/settings/how-to-perform-a-master-reset.html If you don't change to your vehicle info, you'll see the notice that says THIS INFORMATION APPLIES TO SYNC WITH MYFORD TOUCH. rjam
You are correct. There is not one vehicle older than 2016 so it is all about the new version. Odd that you would have been sent to that site to show you sync 2 was supported. And by the technology team. Redshift

V3.8 is the most up to date software for the MyTouch system, but once an update is rolled out, you'll be notified in your account. CaraThe fact is that vehicles are likely still not showing up is nearly 1 1/2 years when V3.8 update became available and did not show up as an update for my vehicle at that time. My vehicle at that time was not even 3 years old. Some 2013 showed up others didn't. If you can't locate that thread, I'll be happy to find it for you. I and many sent our VINs to one of your team members on this site at that time as requested. Ford continued to show my vehicle as being up to date with the older version for at least 6 months after V3.8 was released at which time I downloaded V3.8 from a link on the net and installed it. My vehicle is now shown as up to date with V3.8. To my knowledge no one from Ford has ever got back on that thread as to when / why V3.8 was not shown as being available to us even though we were assured that are vehicles were eligible for V3.8 What is of great concern is that if this Ford issue of "not showing" updates on Ford's website for our vehicles that we are entitled to isn't resolved, how can I and others be assured that the issue will ever be resolved. We, in essence, have paid Ford for a product including updates that we are never made aware of. rjam
I had to update my 2013 from the link you used. Waited for Ford to put my car on thier list for quite some time. The rep watching this site had me send the vin number etc. which did no good at all. Glad I had the link. Purchased a 2015. Wish I had gotten the 2016 with new system. Oh well
SnowStorm
That link above is not right as homestead describes. So you get the "can't be found" message and a "Site Map" on www.ford.com which has nothing to do with Sync. The 2016 and 2017 cars shown are just the current models on ford.com. The link should be: https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/how-tos/keep-your-sync-up-to-date.html Edited January 29, 2017 by SnowStorm

FordIVTteam
Hey everyone, SnowStorm is correct. I wanted to know what version Redshift currently had installed. The link I posted is supposed to take you to screen to sign into your Owner account. Once signed in, you'll be directed to the software update page. It has nothing to do with model years. For some reason the link I originally posted isn't working correctly and it takes you to a sitemap page. On that page you do not see anything lower than 2016 because it's referring to current vehicles in production to purchase. It's a marketing page; not for support. You can access the software update page by selecting SYNC & VEHICLE FEATURES then CHECK FOR SOFTWARE UPDATES. Our SYNC support site has articles to assist all systems: http://owner.ford.com/how-tos.html?category=sync If you're signed in, the articles will automatically contour to your vehicle. If you're not signed in, you'll have the option to choose year (2007+), model, and SYNC version. To answer the question about 3.8. That version was removed from accounts due to issues with the self-installation process. Because of this, no one is able to download 3.8 from their Owner accounts. In most cases, you're able to have the update installed (at no cost to you) at the dealer under the 12M02 Customer Satisfaction Program. kostby
I successfully updated my SYNC on my 2013 C-MAX Hybrid SE with NON TOUCHSCREEN, NON-SONY "base" SE audio system over the weekend. Took me two tries, because after downloading the appropriate installation files from my owner page, I used The Unarchiver on my Mac to unzip and create the installation files on a blank USB. The SYNC update installer on my C-MAX apparently looks for two files (install.lst, and autoinstall.lst) in the root directory of the flash drive, and the rest of the unzipped files MUST BE in a subdirectory named SyncMyRide. Apparently because I used The Unarchiver (a different product than the one specified on the Ford page) to auto-unzip the files on my Mac running OS X El Capitan 10.11.6, The Unarchiver did not create the folder and dumped everything into the flash drive root directory. So attempting to install, the SYNC Lady was very insistent that no files were found. Fixed that by creating the subdirectory folder, dragged the other files into the subdirectory, and quickly it installed (with the car running) flawlessly in about 5 minutes. The SYNC Lady was pleased! It was late and cold, so I didn't really check to see what's different about SYNC now, except that the release notes mention a 'Reboot SYNC' menu item now exists, and I did see that on the display. Important note: DO NOT erase the flash drive when you're done installing the update.FIRST, plug the flash drive back into a computer, reopen the Ford owners page, sign in, and it uploads an update file to their records that the SYNC update was successfully completed. Otherwise you'll get automatically generated nagging little reminders from Ford... ;) Edited January 30, 2017 by kostby ptjones

Yes, I knew I could go to the dealer and I also knew that v3.8 came out not because Ford notified me but because of this forum. But that still begs the question as to how would we ever know that v3,8 was available under 12m02? As I said before, most owners likely do not visit forums and would likely never know that that were running an outdated version rather than v3.8. ;)
bob61571
My SYNC2 version is v3.6. I have the 12M02 Field Service Action listed for my 2013 C-Max. So, any Ford dealer should be able to upgrade me up to v3.8 at no charge?? Back when 12M02 first came out, dealership told me that it was a Warranty Extension and that they did not have to do anything. From reading above, the "Warranty Extension" info is now incorrect/modified. The dealership needs to read info on the 12M02, follow procedures to upgrade SYNC from v3.6 to v3.8?? Dealeship either updates the software, or upgrade the APIM? Edited February 1, 2017 by bob61571

Dealeship either updates the software, or upgrade the APIM? So, you are still shown as current with V3.6 on Ford's website? My guess is the dealer still won't upgrade as your car is up to date with V3.6. Why should we have to convince the dealer we are entitled to V3.8. I don't understand why according to Shay Ford pulled the update because of install issues and can't fix the issue / reinstate the V3.8 update on their website. I didn't have any issues updating the software myself using V3.8 software I got in the link posted in the other thread. It still makes no sense other than by not listing V3.8 update on Ford's site for those with V3.6, Ford will likely save money by not having the dealer do as many installs and fix failed install by owners. In a few more years, we won't be entitled to the V3.8 update as IIRC, 12M02 extended the warranty for 5 years (I assume from the 3 / 36 B2B warranty).
