Frank have you tested your console power point 12v? I'm getting 11.4v when I open the door after sitting over night. :) Paul

CR's 10 Least Reliable Cars - C-Max leads the list
ptjones replied to maxed-out's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
I was hoping by now CR would have come up with a test that was more realistic with what people can expect(Fuelly Average) with Hybrids MPG's. I wouldn't have bought a CMAX if I thought I was going to get 36mpg when I was getting 39-42HWY mpg's with my 2007Focus and 41City mpg's with my 2010FEH. IMO :) Paul -
CR's 10 Least Reliable Cars - C-Max leads the list
ptjones replied to maxed-out's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
I have over 52k mi. now after a year and half with no significant problems with life time Fuelly average of 45.1mpg. I think this would qualify as a pretty good test. The problem I have with CR is their MPG test isn't very accurate for any Hybrid cars and especially CMAX with a Fuelly avg. 39.6mpg compared with CR 36MPG. :) Paul -
The only changes of significances are the air dams in front of the wheel. The two spoilers on the back windows I'm not seeing doing much for MPG's, same with the hood seal, not all 2014 have it. I have the front front air dams, but still don't have the rear part #s, working on it. :) Paul

It is getting pretty obvious this a time issue and is probably happening away from home but is not long enough to not start the car. From that you could determine how many amps/HR it would take to drain the battery to where the car wouldn't start. Just an idea. Over night I'm seeing 11.4v before I start the car. :) Paul

I was wondering if most battery failures have been at home. :) Paul

With as much trouble as they have had I would think FORD would make OBDll recorder to record the last 12-24hrs to see what is going on. The Dealers could request it when they had a problem and then return it to FORD when problem solved. IMO :) Paul

I don't think there is a problem when the car is running, just when been sitting a while. I think the jumper battery makes the most sense to protect you from losing anymore time. That way it can still fail so you know there is still a problem. If you use a trickle charger you won't have anymore dead battery at home but still could somewhere else if it sat awhile. :) Paul

2014 tire Aero Dams available from FORD
ptjones replied to ptjones's topic in Accessories & Modifications
62Lincoln you are right they look different but FORD has the same part#s in their catalog. I'm thinking of mounting with the three holes and cutting off the three clips. Or I could drill and cut slots for the clips to go in. :) Paul -

I know. LOL I think he want to know where you are to make sure you don't bump into him. LOL :) I'm going to try to better pics of 2014 air dams by putting mirror under car to get wider veiw. Paul -
How many gallons did you put in? :) Paul

I think someone has mentioned putting trickle charger in back or the front of car to keep 12V charged. It would be a easy thing to do. For me if it happens to me, Dead 12V Batt., I would put it up front with the Oil Pan heater and ICE Block heater, that way I would only need to plug in one thing if they are all connected together. LOL :) Paul

Are you going to call Mike to find out where he is when you get to SF. LOL Sorry Mike I couldn't help myself. I want everyone to know Mike is a very nice guy having met him. :) Paul -
greencmax I wasn't sure what your #3 line meant "(3) Pocket book FE ---> my own calculation of total miles/ gals used what the pump displays, conventional method" Are you using a GPS to keep track of your mileage? I have been using Actual mileage (GPS) from the beginning for my Fuelly mileage, for me it improves MPG's by 1.5%. My Fuelly average is 45.1mpg and my Lifetime on Smart Gauge is 46.1mpg or about 2% difference. I think 2% difference is no big deal. IMO :) Paul

I think they (FORD) should offer an option for air bag or foam bumpers so you don't ding up you car.LOL I'm not sure whether these do much but FORD put air dams on the 2014's so I thought I would try them out. I already have the front ones. You can smash these and they should bounce back with no problems. :) Paul -

2014 tire Aero Dams available from FORD

One solution would be to buy the plastic piece that is in front of the shield and I'm going to check that out too. I think DM5Z-17A792 about $130. BTW I had to change the part#s for the fronts which I have already changed. I looked at the bags they came in and they had different #s. I went and took pics 2014, it looks they changed the pieces that the air dams fasten to in front and on the sides for the rear air dams. :) Paul -
Good going! CMAX tank holds 13.9-14gal., how many gal. did you put in the tank? :) Paul

I figured out to easily post pics from my IPhone, YA! The unit has three bolt holes and three slide snaps which don't seem to line up with anything. I need to see one installed to see what to do. :) The air dams have the bottom is hard plastic (Bolt Holes) and the rest is soft plastic. Paul -
Having owned 2 MERCEDES recently they are scary expensive to maintain, $250 for an oil change and inspection vs $35 at FORD. We don't even want to talk about Parts. :drop: :rant2: :gaah: FORD"s are much cheaper to own! IMO Paul PS Wife corrected me: Service A and Service B ranged on GL350cdi from $350 to $500 at dealer. She found an independent foreign service shop that charged her $180 for an oil change - she purchased genuine MB parts on eBay for far less then dealer charged. Her GL had no oil drain plug so not an easy thing to do on your own. Had to replace rear shocks and dealer quoted over $3,000 - she found shocks from a dealer in Florida and saved about $1,200!

I looked at the front underside of MADMAX and I can tell it's going to take some work to install the air dams and probably going to need to see them installed on 2014 to figure it out. :) Paul -
NO Under the hood on the right side there is a red plastic cover over battery positive connecting point. You will connect your jumper cable there find a good ground to connect the negative end too. This is in your manual on page 256. :) Paul
