  1. I have seen three ads in the last couple of weeks, I liked the Prius comparison one. LOL :yahoo: Paul
  2. We keep talking about moving back to AZ, have family there and lived in Flagstaff for 25 years. :) Paul
  3. From the testing I did last year I see about 2MPG improvement on the FWY from aerodynamic improvement from Grill Covers :) Paul
  4. With mods I got my best MPG's to work ever from a cold start of 44mpg, previous record was 38mpg during the summer. I started and ended with 50% SOC. Yesterday I probably got my worst of 29mpg caused by being unable to go into EV because of traffic and starting with 20%SOC and ending up with 75%SOC. It takes a lot of gas to charge the HVB . My lunch time loop I averaged 59mpg at 38*F OT. It looks like the oil pan heater is worth 2-4mpg on your first trip maybe up to 6mi. anyway. Probably go down a little as your trip got longer. :) Paul
  5. Trying some new things to get better mpgs! Bought roll of protective carpet tape at Lowe's for $14 and covered the whole front of MadMax including over the grill covers. Bought NAPA Oil Pan Heater 150 watt, 120v for about $45 and glued with contact cement to the bottom of the oil pan. You can see the plug hanging out the right side of top gill. Having wonderful freezing test weather here in Atlanta! Brrrrr! Paul

  8. Sorry you feel that my comments are "spam" - I am trying to encourage people to address the issue of poor winter mpg. I didn't start out to sell grill covers but after posting pictures, several individuals asked if I would make grill covers for them. I can assure you that there is no real money to be made here...it's just a hobby. There are all kinds of things C-Maxers can do on their own and my grill covers are only one option. I've even used carpet tape over my grill covers to make sure no cold air gets into the engine compartment! It's not pretty but real effective! Paul PS I believe Ford should have provided grill covers and engine block heater for ALL C-Max's. It is my understanding the engine block heater is standard for cars sold in cold climates.
  9. You really need Grill Covers and oil pan heater soon, that's embarrassing, don't tell anyone, shoot too late! LOL :) BTW OT High 30's at lunch time I got 59mpg on my lunch loop. Paul
  10. It would be nice if one of the Energi members would try Grill Covers to see how much of a difference it would make in MPG's. :) Paul
  11. I just got the Helm Ford Service information CD today, YA! So hopefully I will be able to come up with answers on the CMAX Hybrid/Energi. The first chance I get I will look at it. :yahoo: Paul
  12. Do you have Grill Covers? I don't remember, last night on 6mi trip on FWY I got 46.1mpg 18*F OT with everything taped up. :) Paul
  13. I'm not monitoring HVB temps and I got oil pan heater from NAPA 150 Watts/120V and stuck it on bottom of oil pan. :) Paul
  14. Per the EPA, the sedans (FFH, MKZH) have 3.61 axel ratio, the C-Max (both Hybrid and Energy) have 4.09 ratios. FFH also has 250 lb. lower test weight, so it shoud be the winner... and it is! I'm confussed, I looked it up and the CMAX is 15 lbs lighter than FFH. ;) Paul
  15. The bottom line is that we can do sometime about our CMAX MPG's, but can't do anything about the weather unless we move to FL or AZ or SCal. LOL :drop: It was 11*F this morning here at my house and 6*F in Atlanta a new record. BRR :) Paul
  16. This morning had oil pan heater on for about 1 1/2hr , garage temp 48*F,WT 57*F, OT 12*F took 1 1/2mi to get to 128*F and got 32.8mpg with little higher HVB SOC than when I started. Not bad for conditions. Went to lunch with 18*F OT,75*F WT, 9mi. with one stop and sat in the drivethur for 10min. got back with 49mpg average and WT 175*F, I would say this is very good results with these conditions. :happy feet: :) Paul
  17. From the testing I did last winter you lose 2mpg for each 10degrees F from 70degrees so at 30degrees you have lost 8mpg. I have graphs in my galley. Gill Covers really do work and it's disappointing that some members still will complain about the cold when there is a simple solution. IMO :) Paul
  18. Maybe it was the temp of the HVB was to cold. This morning I used oil pad heater with 50's*F garage Temp and 65*F WT and OT of 27*F. My drive to work is 2.4mi a little uphill and got 35.4mpg and without it I would gotten around 33mpg. The obvious difference was I got to 128* in 1.2Mi and without it I probably wouldn't have made it. At lunch time I did my normal loop into town 4.2mi., out to restaurant 4.6mi. and then back via Fwy 6.2mi. and I averaged for the whole trip with stops, 43.5mpg and OT of 27*F. I forgot to look at WT, darn! :drop: I did get 46.1mpg on Fwy leg and 52.3mpg on second leg and I was using the heater for both legs, didn't want the wife suffer. :) Paul
  19. You need Grill Covers LOL :) Paul
  20. Two Bar worked for me and it is simple to do. :) Paul
  21. You had me going there for a few seconds. LOL  Paul
  22. Today it's 47* (heatwave) made 10.5mi trip (7mi hwy 70mph) and got 47.3mpg and came back city streets (45-55mph) and got 53.7mpg with max WT184*F and front of car completely carpet taped up. Plan to install oil pan heater tonight in time for sub freezing temps for the next few days. I will see how much difference it makes and let you know. :) Paul
