It looks like members have given up on better MPG's for the season. I'm making an another trip to Phoenix in a couple of weeks and we will see how that goes. :) Paul

Going on a long trip on the expressway with a full load!
ptjones replied to Recumpence's topic in Fuel Mileage
I noticed the useful load of CMAX is 825lbs, sounds like you may have been over it. LOL :) Paul -
For us it's just noise. I've talk to a company here who installs pumps and we wouldn't see a difference.. Paul
-
The GPS said we went 909.4mi. and the pump said we used 13.9gals which was the actual. The Smart Gauge is not perfect and GPS and pump is as good as it gets. :) Paul

In Flagstaff it's the Elk that will kill you. Seen that happen several times. I saw them take a Semi out including driver. They are to tall and go right through the windshield. Paul
-
Looking at the doors it works out to CMAX is 15lbs lighter, but has 25lbs less useful load. :) Thanks Paul

Or you could be putting Grill Covers on your CMAX! LOL  I though Volt's didn't have regen? Paul

The aero mods begin (Now working on Diffuser) !!!
ptjones replied to Recumpence's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Actually I was thinking having a door that would block off Ram Air until the ICE warmed up then block Hot air like what was done in the 60's-70's. We loose to many MPG's warming up the ICE and heating inside the car. :) Paul -
Talking to my dealer, I helped them pick options for 2014 CMAX, He said the cars have already been built and are going through quality inspection. I would think they would start advertising with cars ready shortly. He thought they would have a delivery date soon. :) Paul

The aero mods begin (Now working on Diffuser) !!!

It would nice to tie to shutters so when they open, the Grill Cover would open too. Only down side would be that shutters open when you stop the car and let the heat out. The operating temp was 202-212degrees so you are running cold of that you might try blocking one of the holes in cover. Dec. 9th the body shop starts to work on the front of the car and hopefully I can take some pics of how things go together. I'm looking at the intake system to see if I can get hot air off exhaust and cool ram air when ICE warms up. :) Paul -
Suggested tips for cold weather driving?
ptjones replied to ERPriest's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
I still like my heater in the car idea if you can pull it off. Also I like Grill Covers to heat up the ICE faster and if you are driving faster than 35mph you might get an aero MPG improvement too. :) Paul -

You could put a small electric heater in the car for 15-30minutes before you go so you won't need to use the car's heater. Paul -
I figured something new with the ScanGauge that IA (Intake Air) is the engine compartment air temp. for those worrying about temps damaging electronics in Engine Compartment. The air going into the ICE is coming from the engine compartment. Another advantage of Grill Covers is that keeps Ice compartment harmer longer because the shutters open when you stop the CMAX/FFH. :) Paul

C-max MPG not calculated correctly
ptjones replied to mbedit's topic in Maintenance, TSB's & Recalls
I don't think you are loosing any gas. Thinking about the problem I have come up a couple of ideas that it could make a difference. Speed, Hwy VS City and style of driving (P&G vs not). On my record runs I used a lot of P&G and my gal. were very close vs HWY, I'm usually off by as much as a gal. I take a IPhone pic of every fill up so I could compare to Fuelly #'s, you could do the same comparing the two, City vs HWY. I don't know if there is anything we can do about this problem. I just know by experience that I can go 12.8gal with no worries and also when fuel light comes on I've got 2gals left. :) Paul -

Immediately, your CMAX heats up faster so you can turn on the heat! LOL And it is nice for your MPG's to go up immediately. Depending on the cost of gas, probably 30k-50kmi., also it's nice to be able to go another 20-40miles on a tank of gas. :) Paul -

Where is the second port located? Paul -
I was also wondering how you are doing and how is Maxine too. It's looking like you might get yours done before mine because body shops are so backed up from so many Deer Strikes they won't be able to start on mine until Dec. 9 and hopefully done by the 13th. One good thing is I will be able to look at the front end parts to see how to make a ram air duct for air cleaner. Hope you are feeling better. :) Paul

I'm looking forward to having an Energi with grill covers. If nothing else an aero improvement. :) Paul
