  1. 1973 Pinto Wagon with fake wood trim LOL and telescope. :) Paul
  2. We don't know what the failure rate is for sure because the sample is to small. Problem maybe as simple as the heat treatment of the bearing wasn't done right. ;) Paul
  3. I wonder about that, I know if my HVB is charged 55-60% SOC in the morning when it's cold my CMAX has surprising acceleration to 35mph when ICE turns on. :) I think it is a little more than 2 BARS power draw. I suspect the HVB heats up pretty quickly do to it's smaller capacity, which limits current draw. ;) Paul
  4. I looked into this a few years ago and 2013 OM has wrong part# for battery and I looked to see if there was a larger replacement 12v battery and there wasn't one that would fit. ;) Here are some pics of battery compartment. Don't forget to connect to other 12v Batt. before disconnecting your 12v batt. so you don't lose all your saved memory. Paul
  5. I guess you should have gotten the SEL with inflatable Lumbar. I like my seats and I don't use the Lumbar. :) Paul
  6. I hit a deer about 2 1/2 yrs ago so I know what you are going through. It doesn't look to bad, but when they start adding up all the pieces that need to be replaced, WOW! ;) Paul
  7. This is unnecessary if you pay attention to your CMAX's noises, when it starts to go bad you will hear a new noise. It will steadily get loader as the miles go by, IIRC I put put on another 1200 miles after I first heard the noise start and was worried I couldn't go another 1200 miles to home so I stopped in Albuquerque to have it fixed. I might have been able to make it home, but I was worried that it would stop in the middle of no ware. ;) Bottom line is the Trans doesn't just stop, it takes alot of miles to get real noisy. I don't remember anyone have their Trans just stop. :) Paul
  8. I still think there is an aerodynamic improvement having Grill Covers on from the testing I did early on. :) I have sold a few Grill Cover Sets to NRG owners. Yesterday I drove around for Lunch (about 12 miles) with OT 90*F, Center and Lower Grill Covers on and speeds of 45-55mph no A/C and averaged Mid 60's mpg. WT only got up 191*F, not even operating temps of 202*F+ and IT +10*F of OT. With high OT of around 90*F my average on this tank is hovering around 58mpg. Last tank I got 56.1mpg, 740mi. so as you can see my Fuelly Average is up to 47.2mpg. :) You can leave Grill Covers on all year long unless you going on the FWY for a long trip with temps in the +80's or going long uphill climbs. :) The estimated EPA Gas Mileage of 42mpg city/37mpg Hwy/40mpg is a joke if you have Grill Covers on and even if you don't if you drive your CMAX like a Hybrid IMO. I think now my City mpg is around 70/Hwy mpg 52/ combined mpg 58 IMO :) Paul
  9. You can extend your warranty to 130+K mi. like I did. Mine failed at 98k so I didn't need it, but if you had an idea it was going to fail you could extend your warranty. :) Paul
  10. I use HeatShield windshield shade, works great. :) https://www.heatshieldstore.com/ Paul
  11. This is true, temperature did start going up 6-10kmi. before IIRC the Trans started to make noise. ;) Trans temp(TFT) is mostly effected be outside temps and to a lesser degree WT after all ICE and Trans are Aluminum and they are bolted together. :) Paul
  12. fbov did some yarn aero testing a few years ago. I even cut up some yarn to do some testing , but my wife wasn't interested in helping me out. Oh well, LOL. ;) Curious to see how much the GasPods were helping. Paul
  13. Tried a couple of years ago, but couldn't find a part #. I guess we weren't convinced they did much. ;) Paul
  14. Here are front and rear air dams that I installed on my 2013 CMAX which come standard on newer ones. I installed the front ones the way I thought they should be installed, not like factory. Here are my LEXAN wheel covers. :) Paul
  15. Hybrid Warranty is 8yrs/ 100K and I had mine replaced at 98K mi. (No Charge) The problem seems to be HWY miles which in my case was 83%. I have read there is a problem with a bearing in the trans that has been fixed on newer models. I have 35K mi. on my new trans. New Trans is $6K plus labor. BTW FFH 2013 have the same problem and the Trans are the same. :) Paul
  16. I talked to BlackStone and they didn't think synthetic was much better than non as far as wear goes. I'm still going to use mobil 1 0W-20. :) Paul
  17. I found this good explanation on how our CMAX ICE works: :) Paul
  18. Am I missing something here? Both Links I posted say only 25-30% energy created from burning gas ends up turning the wheels. Another 30% is absorbed by the engine and the last 30% is heat in exhaust gases going out of the tail pipe. The point of my Post is my material doesn't absorb heat so you could put half as much air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber and end up with the same amount of heat energy/power. It is possible that the temperature of gases would be higher to create the same energy/power with less molecules of gas to work with. Lubrication of cylinder walls maybe a problem with higher temps. All these issues have to be researched to come up with viable solutions. I do know Corning worked on this idea in the early 90's and stopped for unknown reason. Paul
  19. I thought I might clarify how a ICE (internal combustion engine) would work using STAR21G, black material. This is the way our 4 cycle engine works : Induction Cycle pulls in cool air from intake through cylinder head into combustion chamber cooling cylinder head, cylinder walls, piston and valves. Compression Cycle the air in the combustion chamber compresses further cooling it until the piston gets close to the top where it gets hot and fuel is injected into combustion chamber. Power Cycle fuel is burned and is slightly absorbed into combustion chamber. Exhaust Cycle hot gases are pushed out of combustion chamber with a little more heat absorbed into surfaces of combustion chamber. As you can see about half of the time the combustion chamber is being heated up and the other half it is cooling down. Because the ICE absorbs very little heat it shouldn't be that hot on the outside of the ICE. This is also why you will double your MPG's, because 30% of the total energy lost to cooling system won't be lost now. Or 60% of the energy will be moving the car and 30 % will be going out of the exhaust pipe. :) Paul
  20. I think you are right, the other Hybrid components will be the problem, Trans, inverter, HVB ext. ;) Paul

May 17, 2016 Life Time MPG average going up.
  22. Finally getting around Posting my new Life Time 48.1mpg. Still going up. :yahoo: Paul
  23. I'm sure I will be over 150K mi. before the end of the year with 134K now. The thing I find interesting is with 117K mi. and 11,400k mi on the ICE oil change that I barely used any oil. When you add in that I use Grill Covers all year long and only take off the lower one when it's hot and using A/C sometimes. Also I have hit the over heating chime twice going long uphill grade(246*F) with no ill effects. :) Just checked my oil with around 8k miles on the ICE, still in the middle of hash marks and light tan. It would appear FORD did a very good job in designing and making the ICE. I'm sure I will get atleast 200k, maybe 300k mi. out of it. :) Paul
  24. With 118K mi. on MADMAX here are the BlackStone # with 11,400 "ICE miles". Used Mobil 1 0W-20. :) Paul
