  1. I monitor my SOC(state of charge of Hybrid Battery)with ScanGaugeII and I noticed that on my last trip to AZ the HVB charges the fastest at two bars on empower on the Smart Gauge. This actually makes sense when you think about it. When you are going uphills you don't want to use much power charging the HVB. Likewise the ICE isn't as efficient at low power levels. Since the beginning I have noticed the ICE wants to run at Two Bars. :) Paul
  2. Here are the results from testing from testing with and without Grill Covers with temperature change. One trip going across AR about 200 miles ending up West Memphis for gas temps started at 65*F and ended up at 32*F. It was amazing to watch my gas mileage go down 6 mpg in three hours of driving and that was a 600 hundred drop in elevation and not to windy. ;) Paul

  5. This is true, but from my testing I saw a 2mpg improvement from the smooth aerodynamic surface at HWY speeds. If you really want to save money just use Packing Tape, it's just as effective as foam and doesn't cost anything. :yahoo: But it doesn't look that great, function over looks. I just drove to Williams, AZ and back, about 3600mi on I-20/I-22/I-40 and averaged 47.2 MPG with temps from 20*F to 70*F(most of the time 40's to 50's) and strong winds in OK and TX, not ideal conditions for the best FE. BTW I use clear packing tape to tape around the edge of center Grill Cover to seal it off completely, (very aerodynamic) when it is cold. Also I taped up the Top Grill to limit the cold air in ICE compartment and Air Intake before coming back from AZ. I monitor air intake temp on ScanGaugeII and typically it is abut 10*F warmer than outside temps at FWY speeds so best IT(air intake temp for ICE(engine)) is probably in the 90-100*F range, outside temp 80-90*F when we get the best FE. That helped raise up IT by 20-30*F which I think helped my FE by 1 mpg and speeds up heating up the ICE also. :) I averaged EV% about 43% of the time. Paul
  6. You could look at my images: :) Paul
  7. That sounds about right using reg. gas, not Grill Covers, wheel covers and 50 psi tires. I think I get about 6 to 8 mpg better. :) Paul
  8. I have had a number of members ask me for LEXAN Grill Cover Sets which they can't do themselves, so I decided to help them out.  I bought some more LEXAN Sheets to make Grill Covers for those who need them. They are going for $100 including USPS Priority Mail.  PM me for the details. :)   Paul
  9. To me it looks like the same part they call the Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor in FORDPARTS. ;) :headscratch: Paul
  10. I couldn't find a CHT sensor at FORDPARTS, but I found: 6G004 Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor 2.0 4V Dual Over Head Cam PFI Gas/Electric $27.25 http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/RenderIllustration.ashx?id=334770201&f=3&n=DS7Z6049A :)Paul
  11. Here is the part# for the sensor: 12A648(DY-1187)Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor2.0 4V Dual Over Head Cam PFI Gas/Electric ; Plug-In Gas/Electric Hybrid$39.20 I was unable to copy the diagram, but the sensor does measure the water temp of water coming from the exhaust side of the cylinder head. Here's a Link: http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/CatalogResults.aspx?y=2013&m=Ford&mo=C-Max&initSearch=1&keyword=water%20temperature%20sensor. Learned something new everyday. :) Paul
  12. The ScanGauge II screen reads out WT and probably most ICE's are measured at the cylinder head where it is the hottest. :) Paul
  13. Thanksgiving Day I made my usual trip up I-85/I-285/I-75(70mi.) and traffic was surprisingly light with no Semi's for drafting. Also speeds were very fast 70-80 mph most of the time with a range of 60-85 mph, outside temps 68-70*F. Given these conditions I still averaged 48.9 mpg! :) Paul

  16. I installed a FORD ICE(engine) block heater in my car and there was plenty of cord so I would check to see if you can trace the wires back to find any excess wire to use. I have the end of an extension cord Velcro-ed down on the lower right corner of the windshield so I can connect an extension cord to it. :) Paul
  17. I think the sensor is in the top of cylinder head. That is impressive temperature gain in such a short period time. :) Paul
  18. And it is still going up with 188 fillups. :yahoo: Life Time Average 47.9 MPG

  20. Saw NOS Octane Booster Racing Formula at Walmart tonight for $9.97. :shift: :) Paul
  21. At 5'10" I have slept in the back seat area, wasn't that comfortable with pillow. Also slept in drivers seat on trips when I got tried, you do what you got to do. LOL :) Paul
  22. Congratulations I knew you could do it! :yahoo: Paul
  23. The height turned out to be the issue for me. I have had a number of times where I would be able to fit boxes in an NRG. It would be nice to charge up the HVB, but can't give up the height. :) Paul
  24. We kind of do, They are called Grill Covers. LOL ;) Paul
  25. +1 I also agree I needed the extra space. :) Paul
