  1. Great suggestion kostby, I'll have to look into this after I finish my rear spoiler project which currently being discussed and pictures in another thread in the accessories and modifications folder.
  2. Latest pics with the 2nd sculpted section attached to the first and the second pic with the 3rd section attached and still unsculpted. So far this has been an interesting project ,hopefully the remaining sculpting will go smoothly and then on to final prepping of the styrofoam backbone of this rear spoiler before moving on to the carbon fiber cloth which will prove to be no less tricky to accomplish. I haven't worked with resin since my experiences back in the 1980's with repairing my fiberglas air dam on my 71 Datsun 240Z. Fingers crossed.
  3. Below are some pics of the first sculpted section of foam for my new rear spoiler project. I bought some more styrofoam today so should have enough to fully sculpt the spoiler. I also checked a local store for carbon fiber pricing. Looks like this will cost me some bucks as I expected. 50" wide roll for $46.25/yard. I might not be able to lay down more than one layer of cloth at those prices. I'm not sure if it is possible to lay down regular fiberglas first and then finish with a top coat of CF? But that might be a possibility to bring up the thickness.
  4. Yes I contacted them and they will ship it anywhere in the world. I still like the spoiler but I'm just looking for something a little more aggressive and high tech which is why I'm looking into building my own made with carbon fiber. But the CF will be the most expensive material in the project. Maybe like $200 alone for the cloth. But it looks cool!
  5. Wab, thanks for the very helpful info and link. My first challenge is going to be shaping the blocks of styrofoam to lay flat against the metal along the bottom edge of the rear glass since it is a constistant curved surface . In the middle it is pretty straight and flat but as you work your way over to the sides where the hatch meets the rear fenders. The angles greatly change and will require more involved shaping as it is curving to go around to the "D" Pillar. But if I take is slow and not rush I think I can reach a nice look. My plan is to make this spoiler sort of a duck tail design curving upward at the bottom edge of the rear glass and leaning back to slightly beyond the metal surface which curves down to the license place above the blue Ford Oval logo if that makes any sense? Hopefully it can be visualized from that description? Thanks for your comments and interest in the project. :)
  6. Well I'm continuing this old topic to let everyone know who is interested that I have started a new direction for designing and fabricating a rear spoiler for Maxus. I shelved the acrylic concept when I started having too much trouble with the plastic developing cracks as I shaped it. I've been researching a great deal on the internet about designing a spoiler from styrofoam blocks which I bought fairly cheaply at a local crafts store. This stuff is very manageable and cuts like butter with a hand saw and a rasp file for fine trimming. I bought some industrial strength styrofoam adhesive to form the blocks into a long enough length to cover the width of the rear liftgate under the rear window. I wasn't able to find long lengths in a thick enough block. My plan is to shape this foam into my concept for the spoiler. The only real problem so far with doing this is when you cut into the foam it created billions of tiny specks of foam which sticks to everything from static electricity. It looks like it snowed in my workshop. Once the foam is the way I want it and the surface is prepped I will cover the styrofoam with fiberglas. From my research there are different types of resin and there is one type which won't eat up my foam shape before hardening. The foam will stay inside the spoiler to serve as reinforcement. If I can find a good deal on carbon fiber I will cover this in CF cloth for a much stronger and racier look. This will be a medium to large project so it might be beyond my pocketbook to use CF cloth, we'll see once I go to purchase my cloth. Right now since I'm working in unfamiliar territory working with composites I'm taking one step at a time. So far I've spent $45 in foam and adhesive.. If the design turns out ok? Then I'll buy cloth and resin which will run up the tab sufficiently I'm sure. Stay tuned as things progress. :drop:
  7. I'm wondering if these battery problems are common to any one color of a CMax? Just kidding, I know it is happening to any color at random. But I am curious if any Platinum White owners have had battery issues. Mine as I've said before hasn't missed a beat. :worship: Also wonder if these problems are connected to cars which sat on the lot for awhile. I took mine home the day it was unloaded from the transporter.
  8. Ok got my screen protector today in the mail, was delivered in a couple days . It works great and easy to apply. Just make sure all the fingerprint smudges on your MFT are removed and the glass is free of dust and moisture. Application works just like on my iPhone and iPad mini. No more fingerprints, I love it and it was a cheap fix from NuShield.
  9. keep working at it. I was stuck in the 30's but now I'm seeing most every day 47 - 48, it just takes allot of TLC and patience. Also my MPG seems to grow with each passing week. I have 24k+ on Maxus now.
  10. Thanks John but I don't hold out much hope since Ford has not been having a banner year with the CMax since it was released. My local dealer has had 14 CMaxes sitting on their lot for a year.
  11. still pretty respectable in it's own right. Must be rare as I never heard or seen one. Enjoy
  12. Matt, AWD! in my opinion from experiences I had with my 1992 GMC Typhoon and 1991 Syclone pickup both also AWD and Turbocharged. AWD is the only way to go. Awesome performance, even in the rain. We always used to say about my Syclone 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds even in the rain. Plus here in Cali AWD vehicles are except from bi-annual smog checks since there is only one AWD dyno and it is in LA, or so I heard? I didn't realize the Fusion could be had in AWD. I sure wish it was available for the CMax in the future cause that would be an instant buy for me as my second car. Enjoy your new ride...
  13. I can't imagine what is so annoying about the door lock feature. It makes a clunk noise once you get underway and that's it unless yours are locking and unlocking repeatedly now that would be annoying.
  14. Ok it appears the suggestion of turning my volume up when taking a call works. I tried this today when my phone rang, I accept the call, said hello and cranked the volume and there was my caller. Now what I really want is to see my iPhone 5 screen appear on the MFT screen. Ford...CarPlay is a must for the first year owners. There must be a way to get this on my 2013 SEL. I paid for the premium sound system and this is a necessary upgrade. I have the latest OSX 7.1 on my phone. Tell me it can happen?
  15. definitely have some mold brewing in my evaporator/core because it smells when the A/C is on and I reduce the fan speed after running for awhile. Usually goes away if I run on vent for s short period and then go back on cabin recirculate. Tried using some of that spray freshener in the vents but it didn't take it away. Got to take Maxus in for the chime recall, I'll have them look into the foul air smell.
  16. if I need to use mine hopefully the wife wont be with me. Since getting her out of the seat to access it and possibly in the rain would not go well for me.
  17. Im enjoying mine for my iPad mini, was nice to look down and get all the current real-time data through Dash Command for iPad,
  18. sounds like a neat trick from ford to allow owners access to schematics and diagrams while putting some cash into their pockets
  19. i ordered one of these, they had one specific to the CMax Hybrid. Well see how it works?
  20. So I guess you prefer EngineLink HD over DashCmd? I noticed that EngineLinkHD would not switch the screen to portrait it wanted to stay in landscape. Due to where I have my iPad mounted on the center console to the right of the shifter. It is more difficult to rotate the screen to landscape.
  21. My Maxus born September 2012 has had it's problems but nothing that I consider out of the ordinary for a new model.
  22. Good luck with that in CA. I got dinged repeatedly and finally got tired of it and removed it.
  23. Plus 3 Golfer, wanted to ask you something. My Interface came today and it has a small CD with drivers I presume? Did yours? If so where did you install them? I'm certain that small disk can't be inserted into the CD player in my CMax. Or do I install using my Mac Pro to install to my iPad Mini? Uncertain?
  24. Looks really really nice Braker, but you need the splash of red color like I did.
