  1. Here are my runs from Mammoth Lakes back to San Fernando at my different odometer reading. I chose this part of the trip as it has the least fluctuations in terms of temperature - we basically leave at the same time and with no adverse weather conditions. Plain Jane and with the same load, same route and same time of the day. The return leg is 285 miles. Trip over Christmas 2012 40.8MPG with 2169.5 odo miles :baby: Jan 2013 44.6MPG with 3786.5 odo miles  Feb 2013 46.7MPG with 5586.1 odo miles :happy feet: Engine breaking in, you betcha. More than 5%, you betcha. Of course, ymmv ;)
  2. Thats the same group doing the Irvine event - fill it in, and its probably meet the engineers
  3. I certainly know these routes. Agree - that TC from the beach to Ventura is hilly indeed. Totally, totally awesome MPGs there Gen
  4. Dude, you're on fumes at 13.35 gal ..another roll of the wheel and your Max would have :drop: Great job ptjones
  5. Spotted along the 101 north before Hampshire rd, SEL with Nevada plate so this guy has probably got some miles on it.... Spotted in Oxnard in front of school, in an area where I was appraising...it's a brand new SE CMax...
  6. Great, great and very revealing interview..thanks! My main takeaway from that whole chat are: 1. 60 is more efficient than 55 - just because of the active shutters. I concur, I was seeing that in my own drives but could not figure out why, until now. 2. The active shutters were acknowledges as "dumb", great. Ford spends so much money on the whole system and to me, seemed to miss the ball with what, imo, is a critical piece of cake with the mileage pie. We now have it confirmed this is based on speed alone, hence "dumb" but I senses that the engineers are regretting not making it smarter to have it temp based and be a possible solution to the cold weather driving. As much as the engineer talked about installing your own block heater - and ptjones seemed to prove this with his own closed grill research, having those shutters closed at the cold temps would be a viable solution. 3. Didn't know they ran the coolant along the exhaust somewhat to provide heating. 4. Now I am paranoid that all the stuff we put into the CMax may block the battery vents - got to find these vents and make sure they aren't accidentally covered by the gear. So yeah, a very revealing interview - thanks for the links Maximus...
  7. Yeah, I concur, the CMax is brilliant in the snow and the road in general - Ford made the right decision to base it on the Ford Focus platform and anyone who says they should have gone with a new design like the Prius route is just plain nutz. Stay safe my friend and enjoy the beauty of the white snow....my wife and I luv the snow but she does not get the joy of digging out Max.... ;)
  8. Welcome to the forum Rick & Val - glad you found us and trust you will find lots of informative threads, posting and pictures in this forum. Congratulation on your new Max and lets hope the dealer fix that leak good
  9. I am seeing how big this storm is hitting the north east on cable - so as much as you want to fang around your Maxs in the white snow, just keep it safe in the garage until the storm blows over. Be safe and stay indoors and if you have to go out, drive slow and steady in the snow. Take care

Relax, this is liberal CA, we generally pay more for our gas than other states (except HI). You could also start throwing the Tahoe into neutral on the downhills to save some gas. Oh man, just watching the local news, this rogue LAPD cop is driving everyone nutz :nonono:
  11. There you go RachelinLA....hint, hint :wub2:
  12. Welcome, welcome, welcome. If you're overwhelmed with electronics, then you certainly picked the right car, imo, there is NO better hybrid that behaves and looks more like a normal car than the CMax. You have the SEL which is exactly like mine so just put that into the "Empower" mode (the left hand screen which is use 90% of the time) and leave it there, right now you don't need any other fancy stuff....hmmh...may be just press down a couple of time for the "Vehicle Range"...and thats it. Put the car into gear and go...... :shift: I had my car since early December and already put up a tad under 6000 miles on it. My last fill up was around 560+ miles on a single tank so my engine is broken in. When you're more familiar with car and want to "play' then check out the Fuel Mileage section and Hybrid Driving Tips sections. Also we tend to use acronyms around here like "MFT" but don't worry here's a super useful thread that breakdown all the acronyms we tend to throw around: http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/index.php?/topic/974-hybrid-car-acronyms/ You're all set....so go drive, don't worry about the mileage and just enjoy the CMax :)
  13. The lots may be full but I do not see hardly any CMaxs in my daily travels. I counted 1 at Oxnard yesterday and 1 as I drove along the 101 to Westlake Village but the guy had a Nevada plate (ruby red). Compare this to every 10th car here in LA is a Prius....aha...nothing like fanging past a V though going up the hill (forget about MPGs there ;) )
  14. Welcome to the forum Gina :) The keyless start is brilliant and so is the intelligent access. You never need to pop a key into this car - but don't forget to lock the car, it's not a proximity lock but a proximity open. And it even knows if you don't shut down the engine and walk away...which is something I do now and then..hey no engine sound, easy to lose track if its on or off.... :runaway:

Here we go...costco $4.17 for 91 RON octane
  16. I don't get it with the CMax commercial - Ford does a great "real person" ad with the Ford Focus with that cute girl and a similar one with that young couple for the Ford Edge....you would think they would do one for the CMax with a real person. Oh noes.... :runaway: PS They should hire the same ad company for Geico to do their ads, that green lizard is the funniest :hysterical: &
  17. Slow down in the rain, go EV and save that way  PS I suspect its the colder temps, water on the road that effected your FE.
  18. Awesome input everyone! I'll collate the information at the end of next week, let some more owners post up their say. I am hoping to give this list to the Ford meeting at Irvine. Thanks everyone and keep'em coming :)
  19. "The very first thing I noticed with the C-MAX was its hyper-sensitive brakes. It is normal to have a different sensation in a gas/electric hybrid because the electric motors act as generators when braking as they recharge the batteries. They create additional resistance, a boost to the braking. But the C-MAX was rather disconcerting at first by its abrupt braking. I did get used to it and adapt my driving style, but some people who tried the car just did not like it." How subjective are the brakes...I absolutely luv'em, gives great feel and confidence. I hate, hate, hate squishy brakes ala Prii brakes.

Thought I would ask, as you seem pretty meticulous, a good trait with top notch golfers that never vary such as their practice or pre-shot routine. No worries.
