So in the spirit of getting us out of our CMaxcentric Forum posting routines - lets delve into the what we all love the most about being human - our jouyous consumption of food :wub2: So, I have started a thread to post up pictures of our favourite dinner/lunch/breakfast food, whatever you delight in.... I'll start.... Callahan cut Prime rib with the classic baked potato with everything. Washed down with a 1997 Eillen Hardy Shiraz which is drinking beautifully this year. Chart House, Mammoth Lake.   4. Great find HotPotato. What struck me the most was the cockpit of the Buick, CMaxesque in layout with the Nav on top but what looks like a gazillion buttons in the middle to bake a cake and some soup...jus' sayin. If they are going to "copy", they should have gone with the Tesla pad lcd layout - now that would have been a killer cockpit! Also, you know what, our Aston Martin like grills look a ton more aggressive and better but we are bias. Great find, thanks for the links!
  5. Sweet Don. I think you are the few who have 16" wheels on their CMaxs, will be very interested to see how your mileage goes in the summer. Oh, if that's your place - that garage will save you a lot of back pain from digging out Max for sure ;) Congratulations and thanks for sharing :)

For Laurel....something to really mess with her head....Hawaii photos.... :drool: PS Yes, its off topic on this thread but this is my thread so the OP can do anything.... :rockon: Moon rise on the Big Island... Sunset on the Big Island.... Kauai - the wettest island on the Hawaii chain but the most gorgeous, just enjoy the warm rain and oceans. Photo taken from Kalakau Trail, a super nice hike but very wet, bring your water shoes and your water proof camera for the most gorgeous cliff views.... Nice beaches with warm water and NO bugs (No no-see-ums, unlike Florida) And rainbows galore...
  7. Some Mammoth Mountain Photos...enjoy! This is looking at Chair 23 in the background. Chair 23 takes you to the peak which is around 11,000 ft so don't go there in your shorts and t-shirt. Top left corner is the top of Chair 14. Same mountain range as Photo 1. That run you see there going down the mountain is Scotty's run. This is overlooking the backside from the top of the gondola. That run the snowboarder is going down leads down to Chair 14. Beautiful, beautiful from the top...somewhere out there is Yosemite.

  9. gultim, sorry to hear about your issues. Laurel is right, please spend sometime and check out this forum, especially the FUEL MILEAGE section and perhaps theres some tips you can pick up. Actually cleanmpg.com recently did a highway comparison of the 2 Prius vs CMax and if you looked around this forum, the link would have been in the NEWS & ARTICLES section. From my prespective and the major lesson I learnt is that hybrids, even the much vaunted Prius, they are very sensitive to the outside COLD temperatures and there are others in the north east seeing low mileage right now because of the low temps. There is a solution offered by one of the members here that seems to help cold temp CMax drivers get back 2-5MPG (approx) and he seems to be right on the money but you should read and investigate it and make up your own mind about it. There are also Prius driving posters here as well that will back up that temps do effect any hybrids including the Prius. Right now my MPG is at 45.9 with 363 miles on the tank and I still have just a tad under 1/2 a tank to go and my odo is similar to yours, at 4100. I am seeing improvements in my MPGs except when I do the snow trips to Mammoth and it looks like I am averaging 39MPGs on the 590 mile roundtrip - FULLY LOADED with gear and a front passenger who happens to be my wife. Being an appraiser, I drive a quad ton of miles each week and I am seeing above 40MPGs. So I do spend quality time in Max and understand how she behaves and drives. Frankly, I have no interest in joining any suit against Ford. Max is an outstanding car but like every car, it has limitations. There is no way I would trade Max in for a Prius because I like the drive of Max so much better along with other benefits such as a better cockpit and view and Max can corner and speed....jus' sayin. PS I also encourage you to read the threads on this forum and many other forums as the EPA testing is very limited and imo, deceptive and not real world (ala 60 mile limit and 100% pure gas, no ethanol) and Ford just happens to built Max to have an EV up to 63mph, the fastest EV of any other hybrids afaik.

  11. So I have a little run that I do every other day. I have attached the route in this thread but for security reasons, I won't specify exactly where the start and final destination is, suffice to say that these start/end points are representative - it's to give you an idea of the terrain that I drive which I estimate to be approx 70% Freeway and 30% road (just don't go an*l on me for the percentages). Now, there is a gentle if imperceivable down slope from start to finish but you would not know it just driving a gas car. Unfortunately, as I learnt, being a hybrid car driver you notice the smallest of slopes. The whole point of this exercise was to find which method gave me the most mileage for this route. Eco cruise, we all know about and I set this to 62-63. On the street, I set this to 35. P&G, we all know as well. This one I pulse to 65 and allowed it to drop to 60. Now, for this P&G I did not extend use of the EV as my goal was to build the battery levels up. ICE High MPG. I really do not know what mode to call this. But its a technique that one of the posters described here where you keep the speed 58-60 with an almost full battery level and keep the ICE on so that the gauge will read 40+MPG thereby indicating the ICE giving the high mileage. As I stated before, I have seen this mode driving back and forth between Mammoth and San Fernando and at higher speeds but for this exercise, I stayed around the 58-60mph. It is really hard to do and you have to build the battery levels up to do this. I would say, this mode is almost dangerous and I was keeping more of an eye on the damn left gauge than on the road. TEMPERATURES We re having a little summer here in Los Angeles, so the runs were in 70 to 75. Little to no wind - bluebird day as we say at Mammoth. PS wait till the warmer weather comes, you'll find all your MPGs skyrocketing up :rockon: ABOUT THE ROUTE At the start, as it is my home, the battery is always at the 1/4 level. Its pretty consistent almost everyday that I start the drive in Max and it was consistent before each of the runs. Major highways: 210, 118 and 170 and then Victory which is 3 lane major east/west arterial road for the valley community. This is a real live route that I take, along with the traffic and in all 3 instances, I had pretty clear traffic so it was not a factor in my test runs. The streets had the usual traffic light but it is what it is and in all 3 runs, I would rate the traffic the same. As this is not a purely scientific, to me, is was apples to apples as far as the roads and conditions go. This is the map: RESULTS ICE High MPG 55MPG with 4.0EV 0.9 Regen and 02. gallons used P&G 62.4MPG with 5.5EV, 1.6 Regen and 0.1 gallons used Eco-Cruise 64.5MPG with 6.4EV 0.9 Regen and 0.1 gallons used WINNER: Eco-cruise with 64.5MPG but not by much over P&GDifference was in the EV miles, same amount of gas according to Max. Here are my final thoughts:ICE High, while cool, definitely burnt more gas and it shows. I had to recharge the battery to a decent level just to run in this mode so that took some more gas.Pros: Nice find but not practical. It is very dangerous and hard to do this mode. Not recommended unless there is no traffic around you and you want to play. Battery level high as I hit Victory. P&G. I thought this one was a winner. However, I held back and not utilize the EV as much as I could, just accelerate to the pulse speed and let her glide with no EV. I definitely could have extended the EV a lot more. I learnt something here, usually I P&G 70mph to 60mph but it may be more efficient to P&G 60-65mph. A lot less work and far more safer than ICE High but its still work. So many variations as well, no wonder its a hypermilers dream mode. Battery level high as I hit Victory. Eco-cruise. Definitely a surprise. The computer did a mix of EV power and gas and let it run. Batteries were the least accumulated of the 3 methods when I hit Victory (I noted 1/2 level) but its the laziest and easy-peasy eco mode there is. Fascinating to watch the computer turn ICE on and off depending on the terrain and battery level. One comment here which did not appear in this test is that sometimes eco-cruise will stay more in the ICE mode when it could easily go down to the EV mode on the very slight down slopes. You could double tap the "-" on the cruise control to force it to go into EV but do take note that this means the cruise speed is also dropped a tad by double tapping which can be a nuisance at times. So hope this helps the folks who are confused which mode is better but I do encourage other CMax owners to do their real world experiments and see which mode is better for them. As I have always posted, I eco-cruise when I am lazy and P&G when I feel like playing....isn't it fun that Ford built this for us? :)

  14. Actually, the larger tank in the CMax partly swayed my decision, the more tank I have the more range I can get out of Max especially on long haul. Its funny, last weekend when I got back from Mammoth, I told my wife if Ford had put in an extra 3 gallons like our good ole Camry 16 gallons, I could have done the return trip drive to Mammoth on a single tank, no fillup needed at Independence.

  16. Thanks for the links C-MaxJaxon, thats very, very informative. As I posted very early on when I joined this forum, there is a pin and hole in the rear passenger door and thats crucial for bracing the door and protecting the cabin as this video demonstrates. Nice to see this feature working and stopping the collape on a direct side on tbone.
  17. I was driving back from on the streets after I had a x-ray and this street was loaded with traffic lights. Eventhough I am driving on the right hand lane and doing the speed limit and a tad more and an upcoming red light, how many people are willing to speed and brake hard to stop at the light. Morons. Even when I was driving a Jag, I never had the inclination to do these stupid illogical actions....I can't wait till the gas prices rise to get some of these morons off the road. :nonono:
  18. Yes they are. Galpin is one of the largest Ford dealers around and I had a good talk to the techie, as I posted somewhere in this forum. They are aware of it and I said I was getting 40mpgs to 45mpgs, depending. You know what my fuelly says but my readings per trip has always been higher.

C'mon I wanted a smaller shifter in my Max...not as dinky, delicately small as a V but slightly smaller. Lob off an inch or 2....why? So I can get to the other bloody button on the other side!!!!!!!!!
  20. F8I - dude, thats dangerous...taking 1 day supply on a 3 day hike, count your lucky stars nothing happened, you can't take chances in the wilderness, it will kill yer. Anyway, glad you made it out safe and with a lesson learnt I hope. I don't hike but I do occasionally do an afternoon one, mainly up to Lake Mary. Also, eventhough I board 99.99%, I really luv to cross country ski around Tamarac Lodge, its so, so pretty - thats something about cross country that I really appreciate. Nice photos though, finally see your mug face shot...or are you that bear looking person :runaway: I'll post up some Mammoth snow pics later today.
  21. The pole one looks bad but if you look carefully, the driver seat goes away from the impact area. Damage is still done though especially to the hip and thigh area, not good. Moral of the story, just don't go smashing into a pole on the side. However, what I would have luved to see is a tbone by another car. IMO and experience, that would be more realistic.

  23. Dude...you want Schats....here it is... ...but sorry, no Max infront of Schats. Max was getting buried on that night (see the 1st thread) and I already dug him out in the morning before this dump. It was snowing pretty heavily and this was Christmas Day. I swear, Mammoth is so gorgeous when it is snowing and I love the walk to town when its dumping. Wifey luvs it too.... As much as I luv Schats@Mammoth, the original one in Bishop does the BEST KILLER hot Pastrami sandwich with the Sheep Herders bread. Folks...this is one sandwich to die for. Guaranteed. F8I - l like you dude, you know Mammoth :)
