  1. Like any forum and threads such as these, the focus is on the problem but there is also a silent majority out there with no battery issues, such as myself who purchase an Oct 2012 built CMax or Brother Mike. If you also look in the Article, News section, even the Tesla S are having 12V issues as well. Whether you decide on a CMax because of this battery issue or not, its up to you to decide but I cannot stress how important it is to find a GREAT and KNOWLEDGEABLE Ford dealer in your area, even if you have to go out a wee bit out of the way as, unfortunately, not all Ford dealers are up to scrap. A lot of the frustration lies with the dealers as well, so find a good one. This is a phenomenal vehicle, and its more than met my expectation in terms of reliability, technology and MPGs - but I am backed up by a SUPERB dealer, Galpin Ford in Van Nuys. Good luck with the decision :)
  2. Thanks Ron, its SO EXCITING to be driving Maxine again. There is NO rental car that drives like her and I jus totally enjoying my MPGs again. Mostly good MPGs and the worse case, its average. However, I must say, even with my self-made grill covers and Gas Pods, I am still below my better MPGs that I was seeing in the summer and pre-13b07. It is what it is and I should not complain because its higher than what was stated by EPA. Also, now that I am starting my Mammoth trips again, I am still averaging 45MPG totals for the 560 mile round trip full loaded and elevation change of 500ft to 7,800ft and back again, I am over the moon. Yeah, not the 47 advertised but then again, they did not do a full load of the car and made her climb, did they ;)
  3. You, my friend, are getting the Maxer addictioning flowing in your veins.... ;) :)
  4. Crap Matt....you don't have to follow me and ding up your rear end as well, lol. Glad to hear you're ok, no whiplash et al. I know 11stiltd got his whole car destroyed in another accident. These CMaxs are tough and so far NO major injuries to date - 'cept me but I seem to alwasy get the lucky BAD straw. They can fix these CMax right. Mine had frame damage and Ford Auto Body did such an awesome job, it feels brand new, no squeeks, odd noises..everything was tight and normal like it never was in an accident. That looks like a $10K job there, you might want to have them test the frame for alignment while you're at it. ...but thank LORD you and your family are safe. 43MPG below zero, thats freaking nutz....
  5. watcha all complaining 'bout. If I try to sell mine with the ding in the back, its practically worthless (thanks Mr.BMW driving under the DUI). on top of that, I got dittly squat of suing for diminished value. a$$hole. Best to keep it since its a super utility.
  6. Screw the CMax or the Tesla S, I am getting one of these as the next car... *drool*...
  7. Ah ha...you know the Focus is a smaller car than the CMax....jus sayin' No worries, glad you're ok and we'll miss ya. Take care friend :)
  8. There was one time I was concerned with the sudden exterminations of the bees which was why I stocked up on the honey...still going thru my supply, lol. Now...BACK from a Mammoth weekend. Rode up there with Gas Pods only this time (got scared of the overheating climbing Sherwin with the grill covers) - and guess what, without the covers - my MPGs was slightly better. I also compared my old Mammoth runs and with this Gas Pod run, it was not better than pre-13b07 days of the Mammoth run, more like practically the same - around 45MPG total for the trip there and back. Also had a flat tire incident when I was up there. [ Note to self...do not run over bottles on road. See bottle & turn away.] And for once at Mammoth, I saw 3 CMaxs - 2 Sterling gray HEV and 1 NRGY. One owner was driving by and he his wife was probably shocked to see my Maxine. Didn't have time to wave. Tons of SUVs and Prii but I luv it when I when I got 81MPG going 41 miles from Mammoth back down to Bishop - while all these V8 beasts were burning fuel away...I was cruising in EV and maxing out my batts...Yes  Also, met some Olympic Gold Medalist US Snowboard team members@Mammoth - they do exists and share 3 gold medals between them, 1 chick and 1 kid - legends of snowboaring, or soon to be. May post some photos of this later this week. Mammoth hosted the Slopestyle & Giant Half Pipe Olympic qualifiers for the Sochi Winter Games. While my heart lies with the Aussies, in snowboarding...Go USA! Go USA! (good thing I don't have to go home anytime soon since ASIO will be after me for that wee rant... :runaway: ).
  9. Luv the wheel guys! Good stuff...LIKES all around :)
  10. Good stuff chrisl, thanks for sharing especially the pictures if another member wants to take on this diy :)
  11. How to use this site, post photos, your control panel etc Also most sub-section have pinned threads to reflect popular requests, helpful threads, frequently asked etc. :)
  12. LOL, love the "Lion Inside"..poking fun at the Prii now, are we Brother Mike ;) I nearly did that with my 9, shift them to the side (since the presumption with the air flow is pretty clean on the top based on Frank's tuft test). Will watch with bated breath
  13. Wait....you didn't get the Ford memo that your CMax is a submarine and a hovercraft as well? Dude, you have to try these undocumented features... :lol2:
  14. Brother Mike, I agree....however, here's the deal though - how much are you willing to now pay for a 2-4 MPG (if that) improvement since these parts (especially the aero molded parts around the wheel and under the car), I presume will not exactly be cheap (I don't think)? The engine oil is do-able though but unless Ford allows it, you run the risk of voiding your warranty (I presume since this is untested waters).
  15. 1 3/4 to 2. Also I cannot tell you how IMPORTANT the other factors not discussed here: road condition/slopeage, traffic and weather. Sticking to RPM only and disregarding the other 3 factors is jus a waste of time. As I post in my review, know your roads to max your MPG. Also, I think we're talking pennies here guys. As long as you keep to under or at around the EMPOWER 2 bar burn as I, Matt, Paul and the old hypermilers here, you're doing fine and better than 99% of the other non-forum Maxers who do not have a clue/know. You're killing it! :)
  16. Ok, so I PMed Ashley about the 2014 aero enhancements and whether they would be available for the 2013, including the new engine oil. This is what I asked: Some other questions: with the 2014 body changes, are these aero components available for integration into the 2013 models? Also, the 2014 will use a higher and more efficient engine oil. Will this standard be applied to the 2013 CMax to use the better oil in the 2014? Ford response: We cannot recommend doing any modifications to the 2013 models. The changes for the 2014 is unique to 2014 and should not be applied to a 2013. This includes the aerodynamic changes and the engine oil changes. The 2013 was not designed to work with these changes. Firstly, I want to thank Ashley for directing my question to the Ford group - its a question that is on EVERY 2013 owner's mind. Although the response is not what we want to hear, all I am going to say is "who knows"...and I bring you this example from this time LAST YEAR, as we were just about hearing the Irvine meeting with the Ford Engineers and us CMax owners were wondering if this 62mph EV could be unleashed. When I talked to the engineers, it was a SOLID "No" - "Not possible" ...and then....13b07 - wallah - the EV threshold is gone. Yes, pressure from the Execs above on the MPG issue helped alot to overcome this engineering road block. So all I am jus sayin' is that these aero mods and oil may not be recommended at this moment in time....but don't discount that it may be open in the future...if any lesson is to be learnt from the 62mph EV threshold & 13b07. Of course, I doubt if this post / Ford response will stop any owners here from trying.... ;) ...not that I am inciting any rebellion among the Legions
  17. I have seen various CMax commercial vehicles around here including an orange one (don't ask me to photograph that in traffic and in the night)...but still does not dent the wall of Priis here though...but all it takes is a crack...right :)
  18. Nope, that seen that ad here.We keep that Mammoth/blue woman & dog ad though. Thats funny cause of all the times I have been to Mammoth since the CMax was released, it was jus moi.....so much for the effectiveness of that ad.... :secret:
  19. Do the ole turn-off/turn-on trick. I have 3 EV+ locations at the moment, one for home, work and the body shop<---damn car spent too much time there ;) Time for a reset. I live at the top of a hill, this EV+ definitely saves me a whole bunch of gas as I get home, for sure. Not fast but jus fast enuf.
  20. Meh. If I wanted a performance car, I just buy a Mustang GT - sounds better, beefier and more money and lots of street cred (at least here in LA)....p*ss on the FOcus ST
  21. We have an existing thread to register any thoughts/comments on improving the C-Max: Improve the CMax? Your thoughts... As such, I am closing this thread to prevent spawning of multiple threads on the same discussion point.
  22. I think Jmonty holds the record for a HEV - something sensational like 999.99 for about 30+ odd miles (its buried in the 50+ MPG thread somewhere). He lives in CO so not surprising to find a long mtn to climb down.
