Laurel, great points and I liked your post earlier...I agree, its a total lack of information! Unfortunately we are not King Alan and if anything, we are grassroots. We own our vehicles and we want to make it work since we got 2 bobs in the hat now. However, whos to say grassroots have NO power? Each of us here has put in their 2c and collectively, we made ourselves better drivers by listening, testing and learning and sharing. The latter is our POWER. Also, going back to what you posted - I know of only person here whos worked with a dealership to have him teach the new hybrid drivers "how to drive" and that's Matt aka Recumpence. I believe he did a workshop for them and the new CMax owenrs. I like to do one but I have never been asked by Galpin and trust me, they know I NUKE the MPGs in this car from back in the 600s, 700s and then the 800s days. My last point is that we live in an "Apple" world now. I am still from the PC world, I believe in the FREEDOM of tweaking and setting my own PC while Applesiders want a "one button" does all. New CMax owners want the Applesider world and I will admit Prii does this by TAKING AWAY things such as performance for MPG and smaller size with less weight and EV to 45 mph (HEV). I do not want such a car - hence why I bought the CMax and I GO OUT and learn to drive a hybrid like everyone of you reading this post here. My LIFETIME MPG is now 49.1, thats every kind of road, conditions, grades you name it over 23,000 miles. Am I special or own a special CMax, HELL no! Those that do not want to learn, lack of knowledge about hybrids in inclimate weather = sue....which comes full circle to Brother Mike's Post #1. PS Laurel, are we going to see you in our new CMax Bar and put up a picture?

Wow...all the best Jmonty with the new 2014 Escape, still in the Ford family so its good to see. Feel free to pop-in, you never know what we get up to here ;) Cheers and THANK YOU for all your contributions to our CMax community, stay in touch K  -
Brother MIke hit it on the head, exactly. One thing I will add is that this car and any other hybrid car, its a Behavioural Situation Awareness (BSA). wtf are u talking about Willis? <- remember that show? BSA is all about responding to the driving (situation). For example, you're going down a city street, 500 yards ahead you spot the pedestrian lights flashing, car is in front of you and there is an open left lane. Gas drivers you'll veer left and gun to towards the now red lights, brake hard. Hybrid drivers would say "ok" I am behind this guy, I'll stay behind him and use him as a wind shied. This will better my EV mode and I'll cruise and kick in the brakes early and who knows if this guy infront does it right we may time it intime to get a green light. Gas driver behaviour can be described in 1 sentence. While the hybrid driver can be described in 2 long sentences. It takes time and willingness to learn to become that hybrid driver. Most new hybrid owners in the 1st 6 months are like gas drivers still. The WISE ones come to this forum to seek help and learn a thing or 2 about their new car. In regards to AC and FWS (forced warm air)...those who drive the competitor also experience similar MPG losses, I would hesitate to guess. You cannot have a power sucking function on that drains the amps and still expect great MPG. You can try and mitigate it with more regen EV mode but it will suck regardless, lord knows, I tried in those killer 100+F days here in the valley. My 2c.

The C-Max Bar - The Best Place to Greet & Talk
Jus-A-CMax replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Lounge: Off-Topic
Morning all... :) Brother Mike - you should do it. Post it here and I'll pin up Maxus. Your car (name?!?!?) is now on the wall. Yeah....telling me...mine has 23,000 miles already and Maxine does not miss a heart beat :flirt: . I still think one of the BEST part of this FREAKY GOOD car is the fold down internal cargo space. Yeah, there's lots of complaints that the front seat does not fold completelty flat but that like someone whinging it's not hot enuf@75F while sitting on a banana chair looking at the ocean and the rest of the country in ice & snow. C'mon, what else do you want. I think its between Matt and Paul who has the highest miles here. I think the more miles we see, we'll get a great idea how the CMax does for durability. Given she's come from a European breed where the roads are narrower, tougher and shes shown awesome characteristics from her heritage there, I am looking forward to the "older age". Plus, aren't all ladies better with age? -

Welcome to the forum and :congrats: on your new car :) Take your time and come check out all the various sub-sections, including hints and tips to driving a new hybrid and if you have any questions, no matter how small or stupid it may sound, we'll try and help you out. Cheers  -
Hey Frank - thank you for such a heart felt warm welcome back. I am so guilty for my a$$ine behaviour end of last year so I apologize to you and Adair - you BOTH are GREAT FRIENDS, along with Brother Mike. We took Maxine on a long ride for our famiy's Christmas vacation and even spruced her up with some self-made Grill Covers and the Pods. Suffice to say, if anyone can break things, its MOI. The grill covers caused an overheat warning on the Sherwin Grade climb. I posted this in one of the threads. End of the trip, the grill covers and pods helped somewhat but it was not my most stellar MPG numbers compared to what I was posting pre-13b07. I swear Ford gave us the > 62EV and took some other stuff away, netting an early loss in MPGs for us hypermilers. But I digress - Maxine was brilliant and I really enjoyed the 5 hr ride in her and so did my wife - like it was nothing changed. Boy, she can PACK A LOAD inside her...I look at all these teenie weenie Prii and they DO NOT compare, forget about the butt ugly Vee (NOTE to SELF: stop abusing the opposition). The nerve shots are still there but improved a lot since I first reported it. Still going to the Chrio twice a week. I got such a beautiful driver for Christmas and it PAINS me to jus drool at it and not HIT IT. I still don't have the GO from my chiro to test my golf swing since thats part-n-nature of my life. Can't wait but I am patient...and trust me, it will be more patience to rebuild my 3 cap swing back again (good thing I got those G25 irons). :)

Good stuff hybridbear! How did you manage to get all the data on the FFH stages? Also, does anyone know if this is the same for our CMaxs? I'd like to PIN the link here if they are the same.

I think thats for the euro version of CMax. If you look at the FB CMax page, someone posted a pic of their new car with the AM grill. I LIKE IT though ;)

Nice find salsaguy and Happy New Year  I can see 2 things here: 1. Once this thing really kick off and efficient, Big Brother will push for gps miles taxation. Who needs to buy gas now. Ha...we may get that sooner :drop: 2. I can see someone sueing Ford when the car moves in the solar concentrator and rolls over someone or a foot. Ooops. But it is a great idea though.

Oh boy.....I dunno.....I really dunno..... . . :twister: . . . You're in for a spinning Good Times :rating: & :congrats: :)

..or in ANIMAL STYLE either ;)

Hey its a start, will it be perfect on day 1...absolutely not. If it only charges a weenie more EV for me while Maxine 2.0 bakes in the hot Southern California sun...I'll take it (if the price is right...since I agree with AE in that $500 is the limit). Better than NOUGHT, is what I'd say...for the right price.

Brother Mike - the magnetic ones won't stick on the side...they need the perma-ones (hence my PM to you as this was what I wanted to try). Others said it does but for me, it does not. It will reduce it somewhat but at the end of the day, theres still dirt there. For me, nope.

It would help if you gave us some idea on how fast and style of driving you do on the freeway. I drive in Los Angeles, CA and we have trucks that are limited to 55mph but realistically these trucks do 60mph to 65mph without too much hassle from CHP so the drivers here in CA are tolerant and will pass you no worries. Austin may be different, so your speed may be higher. This is important to know since the HIGHER the speed you drive the LOWER the mpg. Throw in other factors such such as the load in your car (a car packed with people and luggage chews up the MPG rather than a single driver with no luggage), head/tail wind, rain or sunshine and most of all GRADE of the road...going up hill to your destination is MPG killer but the balance of that is that, on the way back, you can really use the grade in reverse and kick in more EV to get back those lost MPG. Theres so many combinations here... However, we are ALL owner drivers here with a TON of driving experience to help you, so don't sweat it ;)

Man, you guys are good...I was going to post this one up as well.

:airquote: CMax....what is that, a new burger from Ford? ;)

Nice rek  , great job and thanks for posting the how-to-do-it as well.... :clapping:

Welcome to the forum Thursday49 :) Firstly, the CMax and even the almighty Prii which has 10+ yrs of development are ALL sensitive to the cold. Yet, both will also bask in the glory of the summer heat. In the cold, both have to have warm up cycles mainly for the catalytic converters which need to be in a certain temperature range to operate efficiently. Now, the Prii is suppose to have a better management of the ICE (internal combustion engine) warmup cycle than the CMax so it suffers less in the cold by burning less gas but given that they have 10+ years head start, they should better be. Coversely, using AC is the killer but also using the FWA (force warm air) is also just as draining. So are you to freeze in the cold...? HELL NO. Like all the limited resources of the world, YOU decide how much you want in MPG and how much comfort you want in the cold or hot. My wife drives with me in the summer, AC is on and I lose MPG but she wins. I drive, it's just the fan. In the cold, the heated seat is a 1st choice for most of us Maxers here and then its the FWA. Now, is there a magic button for MPG in CMax? No. The CMax is simple. You decide how much power or MPG savings just by how you press the accelerator. If you stomp it, it drives like a rocket car gunning from red light to red light, if you want. Or if you are smarter and want to save some money for a capucino in the afternoon, "feather" (softly) the pedal to use EV to start from 0 to 12 mph and then kick in the ICE from 12 mph to 38 mph and then letting the speed drop to 35 mph and then feather the pedal to kick in just enough EV to keep you in motion. But I hear you say "it sounds complex!!!" right? Lets look at it this way, it took me 3 to 5 days to completely learn to snowboard and I was a Class 1 skier. Hybrid driving is similar, its a new skill set you develop and WAY LESS painful than falling on a snowboard. Its all about management of your driving skills and wary of the road conditions that effects your MPG. It has a lot of advantages. Infact, when I was a gas only driver, I could not care less, gun it red light to red light....and drove the car like a drone driver..you know the people who seem to be in a catatonic state when they drive. Now as a hybrid driver, I watch each light, traffic in front and back and frankly, its made me a better and more conscious driver. I save money because I get more than 700+ and even 800s miles per tank of gas....but it took me a lil while to get and develop the skills to drive a hybrid like the CMax. I wrote up a review of the CMax about a year ago: Jus Another CMax Review There are some hints and tips which may help you improve your MPG. At 2,500 miles the fun is only starting for you and the CMax will improve with time. Please do take the time to checkout our forum, a lot of your questions that you may have - may be already answered. As well, we have some Ford Motor Company representatives here (Ashley) if you have some more technical issues/questions that the forum members cannot already answer. ...and there is a challenge here as well, lets see if you can break 600+ miles a tank on your CMax. We already have confirmed 50+ drivers here who have more than smashed the record. Its fun but like everything else in life, it pays to sometimes do a little reading, apply some tips, learn and become a better hybrid driver. Hope it helps, and again, welcome :victory:
