lol, I dunno either... Hey SDM, remember my ole "My 2c: EV" thread...we talked about 1 bar and 2 bar. I didn't check the tachy either but lately I've been flipping between the EMPOWER and the MyView where I set the tachy. I noted that it all depends on the road and speed, a 2 bar could be 2K rpm or 3K rpm. My rule of thumb now - as I sit mostly with the EMPOWER, is about 1 3/4 bar burn after my 15mph EV start...that gives me 2K rpm. Its all relative. Somehow for me...at the end of the day....I still prefer the 2 bar (or 2.1 bar) straight burn as the sweet spot for the decent acceleration & charging...but lack the scangauge to prove this.

Mammoth sure needs the snow. Funny thing is that from what I read, 2014 was suppose to be a bumper cold snowy year....except the predictions left out the part -> not in the Sierras. DOH! I jus cleaned out the garage with the wifey and I. My garage space quickly filled with junk since Maxine's crash (late October) till NOW! I had to park on the friveway for about 2 weeks since I got her back. As well, I did a quick trip to the recyclers and I managed to squeeze 50.3MPG for the 4.1 mile round trip. Mind you, the temp was 74F. I know, I know...more darts at my avatar. I can't help myself..... :spend: How's your day been, other than throwing darts at my avatar in your office (c'mon we KNOW)? ;) ps We need a real Jelly Bean shot for the wall Adair. Make sure she's looking pretty and not with all the sludge et al.

Thanks mate, I was getting concerned since Maxine was pulled apart and patched up after the accident and after that, its our 1st outing with her up north in the mountains. This behaviour was not there earlier (pre 13b07), so I was surprised by it.

Ha...I just created a new thread linking to that EXCELLENT writeup, here in our Tips & Tricks section. Took me a couple of reads to understand the downshift to L and up to D to kick it out of S1a. I have one question though...while I was in the snow, I start Maxine cold, its a heat scorching, BBQ day of 26F outside. I had full SOC. Maxine would kick on ICE immediately and when she did, it all appeared normal. She runs thru the warmup, ICE is on full time and it's not the S1a as I am very careful there not to scorh the batts. It goes to S2 and......however, when the S2 stage came on (EMPOWER EV mode <-see I learnt something today), it LIMITED my EV burn to 1 bar only. Have you seen this yourself, is there something more to this S2 stage? I wished I had a video of this...and its happened more than once, post 13b07 and I NEVER saw this pre-13b07.

Here is an excellent writeup by Hybridbear, member here and he's a Moderator at the Fordfusionhybridforum.com, a "sister" site to here. What's it all about? Our C-Maxs and the Ford Fusion hybrid share the same hybrid platform. There is no difference. As such, both platforms have to "warm up" the internal combustion engines (ICE) as we start driving the FFH or our CMaxs in the cold morning. It is here that A LOT of gas may be burnt to warm the ICE. Hybridbear's thread basically list out the stages of the warmup process and walks you through it, including notes on the temperatures which allow the next stage to be initiated. Initially he had posted the link on another thread here as part of a different discussion. However, I felt it belonged better here with the Tips & Tricks section, especially now with the colder weather and our MPGs are taking a pounding due to the warmup cycle. You are going to hate me, it was a warm & sunny 70F when I went out to do some putting this afternoon. This weather is so weird, these cold fronts are completely missing NorCal/Sierras where we need it most.

So do I Brother Mike, sometimes its better for these drivers to own a Prii over a CMax. There I said it...long live the Prii (hope Nick doesn't read this ;) ).
