  1. Welcome aboard. It's a good forum. I love the empower screen--BUT..........don't be tempted to obsessively keep the car "in the blue". I found that you get better results by accelerating moderately from a stop (the gas engine will kick in) to your cruising speed. I'm getting 48 mpg average (after 3000 miles) and the best advice I can give is use your ECO cruise as much as you can. Even for 30 or 40 mph driving. Adrian Vancouver
  2. I researched pretty thoroughly before buying and didn't come across anything about the tires--wouldn't that be a Michelin problem, not a Ford problem? After owning Honda, Ford, Audi, Acura and Volvo, the C-Max is the best car I have bought, by leaps and bounds. Adrian
  3. Funny you should mention the B200, Nick. When our gas-gulping Audi A6 V8 developed a terminal timing chain problem, the Merc was going to be our new car. Absolutely loved it. Then for some reason I got obsessed with electric hybrid technology--thought we were buying a Volt until I looked inside one. After 10 minutes driving a C-max SEL I knew it was the car for us.
  4. Sorry, and with the greatest respect.........the Ford C-Max is as much a compact SUV as I am a defensive midfielder for England. The car lacks four-wheel drive. It doesn't have a heavy-duty chassis. Low ground clearance etc. etc. The Mercedes B200 has almost identical dimensions to the C-Max. Ditto the Toyota Matrix. Are they compact SUVs???
  5. I agree. A complete waste of a screen. I can't believe I can't choose a voltmeter or a tachometer or some efficiency info. But apparently on the models with Nav/sync the right hand display is tied to the central display.
  6. I'd like to see them disappear forever. Along with "baby on board" stickers.
  7. 64,000 miles in a 2013 vehicle?! Do you drive to Alaska and back every day? All joking aside, have you notice any drop in mileage as the battery ages?
  8. Tell me about it. I have yet to see a Canadian TV commercial specifically plugging the C-max. When I test drove the car at Key West Ford (British Columbia), the salesperson didn't know what the green "engine on, car ready" light meant. She also was "pretty sure" that the panoramic roof opened if you found the right button. As to my question about what was the pure-electric range of a fully-charged Energi, she didn't know and called out the salesman who was apparently the electric car expert. His answer: "well the car uses gas and electric, not just electric". Gee thanks. I got most of my info from the Ford website and online reviews. We ended up getting a Hybrid because of the non-existant trunk space of the Energi and the price difference. I still think the Energi is a cool vehicle but I'll wait until battery tech improves and prices drop.
  9. Not sure Mike. Thought we we're talking about the front wheel dams. On the Ford website the official part name is "front fender to cowl deflector" and the part number is the same 16B074. Thanks Paul for the full part number. DM5Z-16B074-A (& ...75-A)
  10. Holy smokes........."Front Fender to Cowl Deflector". Finally found them. $70 isn't going to break the bank if it turns out they are superfluous. Trouble is, both left and right parts seem to have the same part number 16B074. I'm just going to order them through my local Ford. Aluminum pop rivets or those autozone plastic things should work nicely.
  11. Good points. I wasn't surprised. The main thing that annoyed me is that I printed off that internet ad and it was on my office desk. If I had brought it in that day, they would have sold it to me at that price otherwise I would have walked out. But at the end of the day I got a great car and a decent trade in value.
  12. I wish your dealer was my dealer. A day after the sale I found an internet ad for my car (even included serial #) for $500 less than I paid. They refused to refund the difference, claiming they had given me too much on the trade-in and that I got a great deal already.
  13. I could have sworn I read that the transmission was made by Aisin, but I'm happy to stand corrected. So the largest component in the car is Mexican and a further 20% is Japanese. Hardly All American.
  14. This reminds me of when Budweiser got taken over by a Belgian brewing giant. This American guy says "I'm never drinking Budweiser again. I'm switching to a real american drink: Wild Turkey!" And the punchline?: Wild Turkey has been owned by Ricard/Pernod for years. While the C-max is "assembled" in Michigan, its transmission is Japan-built. Ditto the engine. The components are probably all made in China. The idea that the car is "American" is simply not true. Sorry.
  15. Thank you. You have to expect teething problems with a new build. 40 mpg city is still fantastic. And the SEL interior comfort/finish/quietness equals Audi in my opinion. I remember visiting car lots in the 70's with my dad and him saying "Sure the sticker says 18 mpg but you'll never get that". I thought that was common knowledge--"under ideal circumstances"...
  16. One thread and you are "out"?? With all due respect, that's ridiculous. You can go an any car forum (Honda, Audi, BMW.....you name it) and read horror stories. You have to take everything on forums with a big grain of salt.
  17. So are they $35 each or $175 a pair or ???
  18. Ditto. I'm about 47 mpg (total average) after 3000 miles. Nevertheless, happy to get the cash.
  19. Like: Luxurious leather interior and high-end SEL dashboard. Dislike: Lack of engine gauges--why not selectable oil pressure/water temp/oil temp/tach etc. gauges on right side of speedo instead of those dumb "efficiency" leaves.
  20. Why waste money on D cells when you can use the car battery? There are a whole bunch of cheap 12v air mattress pumps out there. Ours plugs into the 12v socket and it takes about 5-10 minutes to blow up a queen sized air mattress. We've had it for a decade and it can't have been more than $15. The nozzle changes size too--handy for that big mattress plug.
  21. Scubadad, With one or all of the airflow arrows turned on? Try turning them off and see what happens. It only seems to be a problem if they are off.
  22. C'mon now Fotomoto: your C-max is parked a good three feet closer to the lens and appears larger than the CRV due to an optical illusion. Nevertheless the specs are pretty close: the Honda is a good 5 inches longer and an inch higher but same ballpark. Want your C-max to look as big as an Escalade? (click on thumbnail--trying to figure out how to add large image)
  23. So the "jerky disegagement" is normal!?. I thought there was a twig caught in the gears when it happened last week!
  24. Not true Wab. My car is an SEL and even hitting the "fan down" button when the system is off turns on the A/C (even though it was off when the system or car was turned off)
