2013 CMAX Hybrid power drain, dead battery
kostby replied to yamaha305's topic in Forum Suggestions and Help
It's possible that your car never received software updates and other corrective actions that were provided free by Ford to original owners to address the issue. If that's the case, and there are no other issues, the least-expensive work-around that does not involve a Ford dealership is to purchase a battery jump-starter, like this Stanley for under $75: https://www.zoro.com/stanley-jump-starter-300a-j309/i/G0431287/ (I purchased mine locally, so I'm not vouching for this seller.) The battery jump-starter doesn't need a huge CCA rating, because the 12-volt battery does not actually crank the engine. All the 12-v does is power the electronics. Once the electronics are powered up, the hybrid battery (~400v) actually cranks the engine and starts the car. This forum contains several lengthy 'dead battery' threads from 2013-2016. A Ford dealership can likely check the VIN service history of your car and provide that information, as well provide updates. CarFax might display a notice if your car was ever included in a Lemon Law action. We still own our 'early production' 2013 C-MAX SE, built in April 2013. We purchased it new in March 2014. We experienced the 'dead car' issue several times in the first year or so of ownership. First time, after driving through a heavy rain, and again after an automatic car wash. The problem went away permanently after my Ford dealer applied software updates during two or three recalls and service visits from C-MAX Service Bulletins and Technical Service Bulletins from 2013 through 2016. These included corrective software updates and minor fixes from Ford, including putting dielectric grease on several electrical connectors in the front of the car and the engine compartment that were subject to water intrusion. -
Ford reported 22 C-MAX Hybrids sold during the second quarter of 2019, and a total of 38 for the first half of the year. No C-MAX Energi plug-in Hybrids were reported sold. New math: 22 (2Q2019)+17 (Ford reported 1Q2019) = 39, not 38. I guess one got repo'ed or returned? https://insideevs.com/news/357565/ev-sales-scorecard-june-2019/ http://www.campaign.ford.com/campaignlibs/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2019/07/03/2019-sales-2q.pdf C-MAX no longer appears among the new cars listed on CarGurus.com, so I can no longer easily check there for unsold 2017 and 2018 inventory nationwide. I don't anticipate making further updates to the table and charts at this point.

A total of 17 C-MAX Hybrid sales were reported by Ford during the first three months of 2019. No new C-MAX Energi Hybrid vehicles were reported sold. http://www.campaign.ford.com/campaignlibs/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2019/04/04/1q-19-sales.pdf https://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/ A quick nationwide search of CarGurus.com reveals 80 remaining C-MAX Hybrid SE's and 3 remaining C-MAX Energi Hybrid SE's listed. To go from the total of 163 new C-MAX's I listed on January 4th to just 83 new vehicles listed now, yet reporting sales of just 17 vehicles, someone is doing some pretty funny math! These 83 CarGuru vehicles are listed as 'NEW' (which I take to mean, never titled) and many have between 2000 and 5000 miles, and apparently have been used as dealer courtesy cars. Discounts approaching $10,000 off MSRP are advertised. Escape Hybrids and Escape plug-in Hybrids are still months away from showrooms. So are loyal "Ford hybrid customers" (if indeed there IS such a thing!) willing to wait for the new Escape, or are they buying something else from another manufacturer?

For 2019 Ford (and GM) changed to quarterly reporting of vehicle sales, instead of monthly, so first quarter 2019 results will be reported in early April 2019.

Ford sold 16 C-MAX Hybrids and zero C-MAX Energi Hybrids during December 2018. A total of 163 are currently listed on CarGurus.com. That's 26 less than the 189 listed on December 6, 2018, not 16... https://insideevs.com/december-2018-u-s-plug-in-ev-sales-report-card/ http://www.campaign.ford.com/campaignlibs/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2019/01/03/sales-dec-18.pdf 01-19-2019 Final 2018 table & charts are now posted in a combined update.

Ford sold 76 C-MAX Hybrids and 0 C-MAX Energi Hybrids during November 2018. As C-MAX sales grind to a halt, I'll skip the monthly table and charts for now and do a quarterly update to table and charts in early January including November and December sales results. http://www.campaign.ford.com/campaignlibs/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2018/12/03/november-18-sales.pdf https://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/ Again, not a definitive number, because not all dealerships advertise cars on every site, but CarGurus.com shows just 189 new 2017 and 2018 C-MAX Hybrids and Energi Hybrids remain.

121 C-MAX Hybrids and zero C-MAX Energi Hybrids were reported sold in October 2018, the first month since Hybrid introduction in September 2012 that zero Energi Hybrids were sold. Cargurus.com shows just 272 total new 2017 and 2018 C-MAX in the US as follows: 242 SE Hybrids, 12 SE Energi Hybrids, 2 Titanium Hybrids and 16 Titanium Energi Energi Hybrids. Not all dealerships participate in all websites listing vehicles for sale, so this is not a definitive number, but the number of unsold new C-MAXes remaining nationwide is quite likely in the low hundreds. https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2018/11/01/sales-18-october.pdf https://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/ NOTES: I've gone back to posting screenshots for the chart and tables simply because it's faster, and frankly, I'm probably the only one looking at them here. The table image now includes sales October 2013 to October 2018. September 2012 to September 2013 no longer appears, but I still have the data in the table stored on my computer. Just too difficult to read a large table of data in print smaller than 9 points. Both charts still show the full sales history for now. Because the prior month pdfs still include the full sales history up through September 2018, those attached to the September 2018 sales report I posted will remain in this thread.

208 C-MAX Hybrids and 12 Energi Plug-in Hybrids for a total of 220 sold during September 2018. https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2018/10/02/18-sept-sales.pdf https://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/ SEPT 2018 historical chart C-MAX Hybrid & Energi Sales.pdf SEPT 2018 trendline chart C-MAX Hybrid & Energi Sales.pdf SEPT 2018 table data C-MAX Hybrid & Energi Sales.pdf Prior month table and charts are removed from older posts in this thread because current pdf's contain all prior data. Has anyone seen any recent updates on a "C-MAX replacement" or "Model E" originally announced for assembly in Mexico after C-MAX production concluded? Not sure if the just-announced NAFTA-replacement-agreement with Mexico and Canada affected Ford's Mexico product plans. As part of the 100th anniversary of the River Rouge plant in Dearborn MI, Ford recently announced an F-150 Hybrid is to be assembled there beginning in 2020. https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2018/09/27/the-100th-anniversary-of-the-rouge.html CarGurus.com shows just 422 new C-MAX Hybrids and 21 Energi Hybrids nationwide.

The only new cars available are limited to what is already in dealer inventory across Canada (and the US, if you could import a US model.). You won't be able to order a C-MAX built to your specifications, because all C-MAX Hybrid production permanently ended in June 2018. C-MAX Energi plug-in Hybrid production ended in December 2017. In the US there are many 2- and 3-year-old off-lease Ford Certified Used C-MAX cars at about half what a new one cost.

373 C-MAX Hybrids and 4 C-MAX Energi plug-in Hybrids sold during August 2018 for a total of 377. As of September 6, 2018, CarGurus.com shows just a total of 663 new C-MAX Hybrids and 33 new C-MAX Energi plug-in Hybrids remaining nationwide. Not every dealership list their inventory with every online service, so this is only one estimate of the new C-MAX cars still available in dealer inventory. https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2018/09/04/18-aug-sales.pdf https://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/ Total C-MAX Hybrid sales since introduction in 2012 are now just over 100,000. Total C-MAX Energi Hybrid sales since 2012 are now over 42,000. With the spectacular ramp-up in Model 3 production and deliveries this year, it's estimated that Tesla has already delivered over 55,000 all-electric Model 3's this year. Prior month table and charts are removed from older posts in this thread because current pdf's contain all prior data.

468 C-MAX Hybrids and 4 C-MAX Energi Hybrids were sold during July 2018 for a total of 472. https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2018/08/01/18-july-sales.pdf https://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/ As noted last month, table and chart images are now posted as .pdf files.

831 C-MAX Hybrids and 6 C-MAX Energi Hybrids sold during June 2018, for a total of 837. https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2018/07/03/18-june-sales.pdf https://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/ NOTE: Reporting format change - This is the last month I'll post .png screen shots of the table and charts. This month only, I've posted the attached table and charts in both traditional screen-shot .png AND now .pdfs, formatted to a 13"x19" landscape page. Next month, updated .png screen-shots will no longer be posted. I was running out of screen room to capture the ever-expanding rows of the historical table in a single screen-shot. Note also that .pdf files do require a .pdf reader app on your viewing device. You likely already have such a viewer installed. If not, there are both free and paid apps that will permit you to display .pdf files. Prior month table and charts are removed from older posts in this thread because current month contains all prior data.

Slightly smaller than the Toyota RAV4/Honda CR-V is the Honda HR-V SUV. I call it a "B++" size, almost precisely the size, inside and out, of the discontinued Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe. Seriously considered purchasing an off-lease 2015 or newer C-MAX Energi, that could have cost less than I paid for the HR-V, but couldn't find one equipped the way I wanted nearby. So I purchased an off-lease CPO 2016 HR-V EX CVT/AWD in February 2018 to replace a 2003 Pontiac Vibe. EPA 27 city/33 highway rating for the CVT with AWD. HR-V is available in 3 trim levels with manual (very rare) or CVT available in FWD, and only CVT in the AWD models. LX is the base model with 'manual' heating/air knobs, and a 5" audio screen with a few real buttons; EX adds sunroof, a touch-screen climate control, and 8" touch-screen audio system without NAV. EX-L adds leather interior, roof rack (no crossbars) and NAV as an option. Certified Pre-Owned off-lease models 2-3 years old with ~30k miles are priced in the $17-21,000 range depending on options. Ford (EcoSport), Chevy (Equinox and Trax), Nissan (Rogue and Rogue Sport), Hyundai (Tucson), and Kia (Sportage) are among other non-hybrids to consider, as well as the popular but smaller Buick Encore. The Toyota Corolla iM, and the C-HR are current models a bit smaller than the RAV-4.

973 C-MAX Hybrids and 18 C-MAX Energi plug-in Hybrids for 991 combined were sold during May 2018. https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2018/06/01/18-may-sales.pdf https://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/ Prior month charts and table are removed from older posts in this thread because current month contains all prior data. Random Thoughts as the US C-MAX story draws to a close, with the end of production of all C-MAX Hybrid models in early May 2018, after the end of C-MAX Energi production in December 2017. Combined US C-MAX sales of all models during 2012-2018 are just over 140,000 as of May 31, 2018. I doubt that there are 10,000 C-MAX vehicles in dealer inventory and in the delivery pipeline, so the US C-MAX chapter will close 7 years of production with total sales of less than 150,000, falling far short of two decent months of F-150 truck sales.Although initially marketed as a 'Prius killer', C-MAX Hybrids were never more than niche vehicles, primarily to help Corporate Average Fuel Economy numbers. Mustang and Focus account for about 50% of retail passenger car sales -- Is it any wonder that Ford is now choosing to prioritize Trucks, SUV's Mustang, and Focus?Other than vague details of a future "Model E" announced to be built in Mexico several years ago, to my knowledge, there are no formally-announced Hybrid, plug-in Hybrid, or full-electric 'C-size' Ford vehicles to replace it.Ford Fusion (and thus Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi Hybrid) are ALSO on the list of passenger cars slated to go away. Will a loyal Ford buyer (is there even such a thing as a loyal brand buyer any more?) wait for the next Ford Hybrid, Ford Plug-in Hybrid, or Ford Battery Electric vehicle, or will they look elsewhere?

Ford reports combined sales of 784 C-MAX Hybrids and C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrids during April 2018. UPDATE: 727 C-MAX Hybrids and 57 C-MAX Energi Hybrids sold during April. https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2018/05/01/18-apr-sales.pdf https://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/ http://www.hybridcars.com/april-2018-sales-dashboard/ - NOTE: April Dashboard not yet posted as of 05-04-2018 As always, prior month chart and tables are removed because the latest post contains all prior data.

Whatever. The Focus Active in the video clip looks like a mildly updated European Focus hatchback. The 'World Focus' product announcement was on April 10th: https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2018/04/10/all-new-global-focus-innovative-spacious-connected.html I see evidence of Honda/Toyota styling cues in the front and rear fascia (I've named them 'brutal-agressive-chic'), but somehow Ford totally missed the 'visually detached or disappearing C-pillar' look that is sweeping the Asian design studios. RELATED: Ford finally acknowledges that they really ARE the Mustang, SUV & Truck company in North America: All but two passenger cars (Focus & Mustang) will disappear from our showrooms in the next two years. http://money.cnn.com/2018/04/25/autos/ford-cars-north-america/index.html?sr=twmoney042518ford-cars-north-america0457PMStory Prediction: If world auto design follows the trend from 'outlandish boatloads of chrome and tail fins' era of the late 1950's into the ultra-conservative styling of the early 1960's, the visual design extreme we're witnessing now will virtually disappear and we'll be back to riding in bland slabs by 2023. Notice that I did not say 'driving'. They may be fully autonomous bland slabs.

UPDATED 04-05-2018 7pm Ford reports combined sales of 995 C-MAX Hybrids and C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrids for March 2018. 890 C-MAX Hybrids and 105 C-MAX Energi Hybrids sold during March 2018, for a combined total of 995. There was a discrepancy between two of my usual source sites for the break-out of C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrid sales from C-MAX Hybrid sales: HybridCars.com reported 105 C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrid sales and 890 C-MAX Hybrid sales, a total of 995, matching Ford's report. InsideEV's initially reported 0 March C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrid sales. UPDATE: InsideEV's received detail with the correct number from Ford after 4pm on Wednesday, and has now updated their chart to 105. I was inclined to believe the HybridCars.com report. I found it highly unlikely that NO additional C-MAX Energi Hybrids still in inventory were sold last month. A fast search on Cars.com shows 156 new 2016 and 2017 C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrids listed for sale across the country. Cargurus.com shows 117. Ford's own website lets you search for 2017 C-MAX Energi, but doesn't show any within 100 miles of central Indiana. From personal experience, none of the major online car-shopping sites includes EVERY available new car at EVERY dealership. UPDATE: On cars.com, the nearest new C-MAX Energi Hybrid models were located more than 500 miles from central Indiana. That list included one located in Hawaii! Wonder what the E-mpg rating is over water? https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2018/04/03/march-18-sales-rls.pdf http://www.hybridcars.com/march-2018-sales-dashboard/ https://insideevs.com/march-2018-plug-in-electric-vehicle-sales-report-card/ As always, prior month chart and tables are removed because the latest post contains all prior data.

A combined total of 851 C-MAX Hybrids and C-MAX Energi Hybrids were sold during the month of February 2018: 709 C-MAX Hybrids and 142 C-MAX Energi Hybrids Perspective: C-MAX combined sales were at a rate of about 30 per day in February 2018. F-series trucks sold at a rate of about 2,400 per day in February 2018. 68,243 divided by 28 days (dealerships are open on Sundays in some states). https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2018/03/01/feb-18-sales.pdf https://insideevs.com/february-2018-plug-electric-vehicle-sales-report-card/ NOTE: My usual 3rd source, hybridcars.com has not yet posted the February 2018 Dashboard confirming the other sources. The fact that exactly 709 C-MAX Hybrids were reported sold two months in a row leads me to suspect the possibility of an error in the reporting. As always, prior month chart and tables are removed because latest post contains all prior data.

Bought 2018 Ford C-Max Hybrid with included rodent
kostby replied to bill.anderson's topic in General Discussion
Well, Honda sells Rodent Tape*... http://www.collegehillshonda.com/product/4019-2317.html * I thought the tape might be to duct-tape their little mouths shut so they won't chew the wiring, but apparently the tape is designed to discourage rodents by giving them a taste of capsaicin. I wonder if rodents from south-of-the-border with a taste for chili pepper might actually take a liking to the stuff??? -
Ford to end C-max production at Michigan plant
kostby replied to djc's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
Perspective: After years of success in Europe with gas and diesel power, C-MAX Hybrids were launched in the US, apparently with great hopes to dominate just one target demographic: Prius owners. C-MAX Hybrids offered far more power, more interior comfort, traditional dashboard styling, and more cargo room than the non-wagon Prii variants, AND 47/47/47 EPA numbers to boot! Then multiple recalls, multiple EPA rating downgrades, and an early hit piece by Consumer Retorts killed much of the initial sales buzz. To their credit, Ford was responsive to consumers in this forum and Ford employees acted as liaisons here to help consumers solve issues. And Ford DID eventually track down and remedy the 12-v battery drain affecting selected early SE models, and the other significant issues experienced by early adopters. Ford marketing apparently never invested time to talk with C-MAX buyers in order to better understand who WAS BUYING the C-MAX, and WHY. Because Ford is primarily a truck company. Ford sells more $47,000 F-150's in an average sales quarter (>150,000) than they will ever sell $30,000 C-MAX's over their entire production history (<150,000). We still love our soon-to-be orphan C-MAX Hybrid SE. Given our history of keeping cars 15 years or longer, we'll probably own it until we die, or it does! -
