Perhaps that will be true after some Customer Satisfaction or Recall software update (15B03?) not yet performed on our 2013, but our Trip 1 odo is clearly registering far more than 2000 miles, though the Elapsed Time obviously has rolled over. After reading that some software updates could reset the Lifetime Stats feature (entirely removed in newer model years), I decided to use Trip 1 to accumulate Lifetime Stats until some more important use becomes evident.

NY Times 09-18-2015: "The Environmental Protection Agency accused the German automaker of using software to detect when the car is undergoing its periodic state emissions testing. Only during such tests are the cars’ full emissions control systems turned on. During normal driving situations, the controls are turned off, allowing the cars to spew as much as 40 times as much pollution as allowed under the Clean Air Act, the E.P.A. said." http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/19/business/volkswagen-is-ordered-to-recall-nearly-500000-vehicles-over-emissions-software.html http://bestride.com/blog/volkswagen-and-audi-ordered-to-recall-500k-diesel-cars-used-software-to-circumvent-epa-rules/24639/

Not true. Every 2013 C-MAX has a simple compass display or the Efficiency Leaves display available in the right hand driver display screen. Can't speak about newer model years, since we own a 2013 SE with Equipment Group 201A, and that does NOT include Nav. Even when the Efficiency Leaves are displayed, a small direction indication, "N", "NW", "SE", and so on, is displayed in the lower right screen when the car is running.

August 2015 combined Ford C-MAX and C-MAX Energi sales are reported at 2,224, up 16% from last month, but down substantially from a year ago. 1501 C-MAX Hybrids sold, 723 C-MAX Energis sold in August 2015. https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2015/09/01/august2015sales.html http://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/

Ford to end C-max production at Michigan plant
kostby replied to djc's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
Somewhat related news story: Ford Ranger mid-size pickup COULD replace C-MAX and Focus production at the Michigan Assembly Plant. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/ford/2015/08/25/ford-ranger/32373741/ -
Agreed. I'm thinking most are sold by word-of-mouth among current owners now. Dealers who know about them either stock and sell several a month, or they don't stock any or try to sell them at all. The Ford dealer closest to me still has a no-option platinum-white 2014 SE on the showroom floor, still showing list price. So Ford is apparently "satisfied" with current production vs. current sales, because they're neither advertising, nor are they putting large incentives or 0% financing deals on either C-MAX Hybrid or C-MAX Energi models that are not also available on most other Fords.

If your C-MAX SE is equipped with the 201A equipment group (power liftgate, reverse sensing system, ambient interior lighting) or the 203A equipment group which includes all the features of 201A and 202A, you have an inside hatch release button located on the right side beneath the climate control. SE's with 200A or 202A alone do not have the liftgate dashboard release.

July 2015 update: One month is hardly conclusive evidence, but C-MAX Hybrid sales dropped about 33% this month after the positive CU mention! 1225 C-MAX Hybrids, 693 C-MAX Energi Hybrids sold. As always, prior month posted charts and table are removed because each update contains all prior data.

Welcome! On a 2013 SE equipped with the base audio (Not My Ford Touch) right screen displays either Compass, Efficiency Leaves, or Help Compass is briefly mentioned on Page 437 of the 2013 Owner's Manual. Download a pdf 2013 copy here: http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/catalog/owner_guides/13cmhom3e.pdf It's far easier to search than the paper copy in the glove compartment! Also apparently some 2013 information was cut and pasted from other Ford vehicle manuals, so the 2014 Manual seems to have the corrected info): http://media.tkcarsites.com/Local/318/PDF/2014-CMAX-Owner-Manual-version-1_OM_EN_11_2013.pdf

REPOSTED from the "Hitch thread", so I'll remove it over there. I've never owned a gas mower, only electric in 30 years of home ownership, but I've always lived in planned subdivisions with lots far less than an acre in size. A single appropriately-rated 100' two-conductor electric cord designed for ungrounded electric power tools has always been more than sufficient, because I always had outlets in both front and rear of the homes. Cord management is not much of a hassle if you always start nearest the outlet and mow away, one row at a time, to the farthest location the cord will reach. For many years, I preferred the flip-over-handle Black & Decker electric mowers, but was eventually unable to find parts for the last one when it died. It had a polycarbonate deck and would have lasted virtually forever, except that the windings on the armature came loose, and a replacement armature from a B&D supplier cost more than a new mower, and there was no electric motor repair shop nearby to get an estimate. Newer safety regulations apparently no longer permit flip-over-handle designs, so now I have a Lowes "Kobalt"-branded 21" 13-amp model, the most powerful ever. As long as I mow about every 7-10 days, it has plenty of power. I'm not a fanatic about lawncare, so I don't keep the yard at putting-green or even fairway height, more like 3.5 to 4.5 inches, usually. Like the lower-end gas mowers and snowblowers most are manufactured in the same factory in China so, Lowes and Menards (and probably many other stores) sell basically the same 21" 13-amp plug-in electric mower under various brand names. Last year, the Kobalt at Lowes was on sale and it had a year longer warranty than the very similar Greenworks at Menards. Lowes: Kobalt-branded 13-amps 21", includes side-chute, mulching plug and rear bag (I always mulch so I never use side or rear bag. http://www.lowes.com...93-KM210-06_0__ Menards: Greenworks http://www.menards.c...r/p-2271388.htm

June 2015 update: 1814* C-MAX Hybrids sold, for the 17th best sales month since introduction 34 months ago. (*7-14-2015 Thanks to C-MaxSea for finding my typo in the first line of this post! Charts and table are correct.) 667 C-MAX Energis sold, tied for 14th best month since introduction 33 months ago. Combined sales of 2481 is the 18th best sales month of the 34 months C-MAX has been on sale in the US. As always, prior month charts and table are removed from earlier posts in this thread because current images contain all prior data. It will be interesting to see if there is a noticeable increase in sales in the coming months now that CU has listed C-MAX as best 'Wagon'.

Consumer Reports C-max review and reliability data
kostby replied to djc's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
Wow. Just wow. What handbrake turn from CU! The conspiracy theorist in me says that such a huge change in rating a vehicle that is 99% UNCHANGED from introduction (yeah, a couple of mechanical updates and a few internal display screens, but that's primarily programming) DID NOT and CAN NOT just happen in a publication that does not accept advertising. IMO, somewhere, someone was, shall we say "compensated" either to totally trash the 2013 C-MAX, or just recently to give 2015's such high praise. The 2013 CU test drivers could not achieve more than 37 mpg under any circumstances, and their cockpit geniuses could not figure out how to use MyFord Touch, and C-MAX was awarded the worst reliability rating possible, yet less than 3 years later C-MAX is the best "Wagon" out there??? An marked increase or decrease in sales from this point forward will be an indication of the power (or lack of same) of a good CU review. -
Is Ford phasing out the C-Max Hybrid?
kostby replied to ChrisMax's topic in Buying, Order and Leasing
A nugget of wisdom from one of my high school students who drove a 4WD pickup truck many, many years ago: "4WD doesn't keep you from getting stuck. It gets you stuck in worse places." ;) -
Your dealer isn't trying very hard! I quickly (way less than 5 minutes) found a 2014 C-MAX SE with 202a package in Ice Storm located in southern California (because I used 90210 as the zip code, easy to remember) using the Ford.com website to 'build', and then find. They initially ask you to build a 2015, but once you're finished, you can select 2014 and the 2014 colors with the search criteria. So here's the VIN: 1FADP5AU2EL506713 And the Monroney sticker: http://www.inventory.ford.com/services/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin=1FADP5AU2EL506713 If you know the VIN number of the vehicle you want, you can just enter it in a search engine to find the dealership name: http://2fairwayford.com/Los-Angeles/For-Sale/New/Ford/C-Max/2014-Hybrid-SE-Gray-Car/40472400/ UPDATE: Here's are a few others in California and Oregon: 2014 SE with 201a package in Ice Storm (Tracy CA) VIN: 1FADP5AU8EL516467 http://www.inventory.ford.com/services/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin=1FADP5AU8EL516467 2014 SEL with 300a and panoramic sunroof in Ice Storm (Portland OR) VIN: 1FADP5BU7EL517981 http://www.inventory.ford.com/services/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin=1FADP5BU7EL517981 2014 Energi SEL with 303a package and panoramic sunroof in Ice Storm (Monterey CA) VIN:1FADP5CU4EL512350 http://www.inventory.ford.com/services/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin=1FADP5CU4EL512350 So in ~45 minutes, using free tools widely available to anyone with an internet connection, I found 4 2014's in Ice Storm, the point being, maybe you need to find a dealer willing to work with you to find the car you want.

Why are C-Max reliability ratings low? MyFord or more fundamental?
kostby replied to gnc's topic in Lounge: C-MAX Hybrid
The in-car GPS is fully capable of providing coordinates for navigation using SYNC Services, even in a non-NAV-equipped car. SEL and Energi SEL owners get a couple of years of SYNC Services included with the car purchase, and SE owners can subscribe to SYNC Services for $60 per year. It includes 20 operator-assisted phone calls, in addition to the navigation capabilities. Once SYNC Services is registered and activated by the owner, MapQuest (and likely other apps) can send a list of destinations to SYNC Services for turn-by-turn navigation, even when the SYNC-equipped car is NOT equipped with Ford NAV. Once a registered phone is connected via Bluetooth, you can use the SYNC-Lady for directions to the list of pre-loaded Destinations you've entered via MapQuest and then the SYNC-Lady gives directions. In the SE, you don't get onscreen maps, just arrows on the center screen and the voice of the SYNC-lady directing you, provided the bluetooth-connected phone maintains a cellular connection to handle the data stream needed for updates as the car moves. If I'm in a hurry, and don't have time to preselect a destination and upload, I use the MapQuest app on my Android phone and the phone GPS. If I connect it to the car via Bluetooth, it will read directions aloud through the car audio system, muting music to do so. Only problem I've had is that sometimes the MapQuest phone app crashes. Haven't had any problems with SYNC Services. Contact the Ford IVT team rep this forum for assistance.- 48 replies

NYC and other cities have C-MAX Hybrids in traditional 'taxi-cab-yellow', so you can probably get any color you want if you qualify as a fleet buyer and commit to purchase enough of them. ;)

Turning Off The Rear Sensor Alarm
kostby replied to ArizonaEnergi's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
The relevant Rear Park Aid control info and Information Display instructions begin on page 88 and continue on page 96 in the 2014 C-MAX Hybrid owner's manual. If you haven't already downloaded a pdf copy to your computer or tablet, I recommend doing it. It's much easier to find things using search! http://www.ford.com/cars/cmax/brochures/?gnav=footer-tools Select the Settings menu using the up/down buttons on the left side of the steering wheel control. The information you're trying to view and change appears in the Left Information Display screen to the left of the speedometer. Page 88 shows that the Settings menu of the Left Information Display is the fifth "Up/Down" selection Then skip to page 96: So, once in Settings Display Mode, Right arrow to Menu Level 2, Driver Assist; right arrow to Menu Level 3, Rear Park Aid; right arrow to Menu Level 4, ON/OFF At this point an up/down arrow should allow you to change the setting from ON to OFF, and then OK to save the change. -

ETIS is NOT an official Ford website for Ford vehicles in North America. owner.ford.com is the official North American site. Or here for the Monroney window sticker information. http://services.forddirect.fordvehicles.com/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin=1FADP5AU3FL102479 Note that if/when Ford updates EPA numbers, the date at the bottom of the Monroney sheet is no longer the production date, but the date that the 'new' sticker with EPA numbers was updated. The doorjamb sticker has the actual production date for your vehicle.

"Honda's new HR-V and apparently its the best selling new car release ever - selling like hotcakes… " Not surprising, the product niche that includes the newly-introduced HR-V is for compact, 5-passenger, fuel-efficient "high-roof" mini-wagons. It was "legitimized" in the US (in exactly the same way that Apple "legitimized" the existing touch-tablet market when they introduced the iPad 1 in 2010) when Toyota and Pontiac introduced the Matrix/Vibe twins in early 2002 as 2003 models. And then Pontiac was murdered by GM in 2010, and Toyota let Matrix production finally dribble to a halt in 2013. What was the formula in 2002? Pretty much the same one Honda is using today, with primarily technology updates: Modest exterior dimensions, great efficient use of every nook and cranny of interior space, 4-door/5 passenger/rear hatch, tons of absolutely flat storage space when rear seats are folded down, fold-down front passenger seat, allowing objects up to 8 feet long inside, 1.8-liter 130HP, 25/27/31mpg for the most common 4cyl FWD AT model, but varied with engine, transmission, and AWD options. Compare the numbers for yourself: 2016 Honda HR-V: http://www.edmunds.com/honda/hr-v/2016/?tab-id=specs-tab&sub=suv 2003 Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe 2003: http://www.edmunds.com/pontiac/vibe/2003/features-specs/ The tale of the tape: Beyond the introduction in 2002, neither Pontiac nor Toyota ever truly "marketed" the Vibe/Matrix, yet sold tens of thousands every year in the best production years, mainly on word-of-mouth from other buyers, and occasional large cash incentives to clear inventory. Most of the Matrixes and Vibes are still on the road with original, second, third, and even fourth owners still discovering "the magic formula" that Honda has now revived with the HR-V. Then Pontiac and Toyota committed the ultimate sin in 2009: They added a more powerful 2.4 liter engine still saddled with a 4-speed automatic transmission, and EPA numbers dropped significantly just as gas prices were moving upward. The high-end models were only available with the 2.4, and the 1.8 was limited to the base models, basically without any of the desirable options. "Somehow Ford missed the boat on marketing the C-Max…" The problem is that Ford first tried to market C-MAX with the now infamous "47/47/47 We Beat Prius" campaign and failed miserably, in part because Consumers Union insisted those numbers were absolutely impossible, even though, as real-world mileage appears on Fuelly.com and many owners here prove, the numbers ARE possible. So Ford admitted the permissible 'gaming' the system by using the same numbers for Fusion and C-MAX because of a shared powertrain. So they lowered EPA estimates TWICE, while paying off the early adopters TWICE with cash customer-satisfaction rebates. Then dealers lost confidence in them because the two least expensive builds (200A and 201A) of the C-MAX SE suffered the most from repeated 12-volt battery drain issues that are only NOW being solved with the latest bulletin 15E04 (I'll say "apparently" - because only time will tell if they have finally arrived at the solution to the multiple causes of failure). And THEN Ford basically stopped advertising C-MAX except for a couple of national commercials that were so generic, they could have been about almost ANY Ford product, and Ford no longer talked about specific fuel mileage numbers. And now the C-MAX is a 1000 vehicle a month niche product. If Ford continues to manufacture them long enough, eventually they may become "an overnight sensation" that took 5 years for the general public and most dealerships to discover.

So, many, many messages later, and we're still stuck on "BUT EV+ STILL DOESN'T DO WHAT I WANT"? Well since Ford has not YET asked you how fix it to MAKE it do what you want it to do, and since Ford won't tell you precisely what it is designed to do, or precisely what it actually does, or precisely when it does what it does, or precisely how it does what it does, or precisely why it does it what it does when it finally decides to do whatever it is that it does or doesn't do, or precisely anything else about it to satisfy your intense curiosity or do anything else you find interesting, why not just turn it off, and pick another critical C-MAX flaw to comment about... Since that horrible nasty evil mean old EV+ feature seems designed and configured just to prevent you from truly enjoying your car, why not just turn it off??? It's the left driver information screen, Settings Menu level 2, Driver Assist, EV+ Mode, on/off Page 187-8 of the 2013 C-MAX Owner's manual has a consumer-oriented description of EV+, and a few relevant Frequently Asked Questions about when or if the Internal Combustion Engine runs, and for how long, at vehicle start-up.
