820 C-MAX Hybrids and 683 C-MAX Energi Hybrids sold in September 2017 for a combined total of 1503, a 5.3% increase over 2016. https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2017/09/30/17sept-sales-release.pdf http://www.hybridcars.com/september-2017-dashboard/ https://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/ As always, prior month chart and tables are removed because latest post contains all prior data. Interesting sales figures for a numbers nerd: About 25% of all Fords sold during September were fleet sales. Ford sold over 7000 Hybrids in September, but the vast majority were Fusion Hybrid sedans, not C-MAX Hybrid hatchbacks! About 33% of Ford Fusions sold in September were Hybrids or plug-in Energi Hybrids, 7000 of 21000. For comparison, 100% of C-MAX's sold in the US are hybrids or plug-in hybrids. ;) The Ford Fusion Hybrid sedan was the best-selling Hybrid vehicle in the US during September 2017, with 6326 sold, more than second-place Toyota RAV4 at 5759, and Toyota Prius Liftback at 5722. The fourth best-selling US hybrid was the GMC Sierra mild-hybrid pickup truck with 2992. The C-MAX Hybrid comes in thirteenth for the month, just behind the Lexus RX400/450h, but ahead of the Toyota Prius V wagon. Anyone recall that Toyota once avoided comparing the Prius V wagon to the C-MAX because the vehicles weren't in the same category? Among plug-in hybrids, the Toyota Prius Prime was the top-seller with 1899, and Chevrolet Volt was second with 1453 sold. Ford Fusion Energi Hybrid was ranked third with 763 sold, and the Ford C-MAX Energi Hybrid closely following in fourth place with 683 sold.

Need Help with the Gremlin in my 2014 CMax
kostby replied to yarbie2's topic in Forum Suggestions and Help
What are your climate control (Temperature) settings when this event happens? On the C-MAX Hybrid SE and Hybrid SEL, the internal combustion engine is the only source of heat to the climate control system. Sometimes the engine runs only to provide heat, regardless of the how much charge is indicated in the hybrid battery symbol. This can occur even in mild temperatures, and even when there is only a few degrees difference between outdoor air temperature and climate control temperature. Our 2013 C-MAX Hybrid SE will start the engine any time the climate control temperature is set to a warmer temperature than the ambient outdoor air temperature. Example: If the air temperature in the garage is 62 degrees and we have the climate control turned on and the temperature set to 68 degrees, the internal combustion engine will start when we start the car, in order to provide HEAT to the climate control system, so it can raise the cabin air temperature to 68 degrees. You can test this: After starting the car, and driving a mile, if you're still hearing the internal combustion engine run, switch the climate control system to OFF using the Power button. If the internal combustion engine shuts down within a few seconds, you've found ONE reason why the engine may run, regardless of what the battery indicator might show. Related climate control issues: If the climate control is accidentally set to (or left on from the last time) DEFROST, it can cause the internal combustion engine to run. If the climate control is accidentally set to RECIRCULATE without AC or Defrost turned ON, it can cause the windows to fog. Then turning on the Defrost setting can cause the internal combustion engine to run to provide heat to help defog the windows. -
A combined 1839 C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi Hybrids sold in July 2017. 995 C-MAX Hybrids and 844 C-MAX Energi Hybrids sold during July 2017, a slight 1.5% decline from 2016. For the second month in a row, C-MAX Energi Hybrid models outsold Fusion Energi Hybrids. Larger incentives on C-MAX or maybe a constrained 2018 Fusion Energi Hybrid supply? https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2017/08/01/july-17-sales.pdf http://insideevs.com/july-plug-in-ev-sales-strong-in-the-us/ http://www.hybridcars.com/july-2017-dashboard/ As always, prior month chart and tables are removed because latest post contains all prior data.

Active Park Assist was only offered as part of Equipment Group 303A on the 2013-2016 C-MAX SEL and C-MAX Energi SEL models. It is part of a different Equipment Group on 2017 Platinum models, but I'm not certain of the number. Active park assist 'warts' can also be seen in close-ups of the front end by the distinctive round sensors, like the sensors used in the rear bumper. Here are the sensors on a 2017 C-MAX Platinum Black 2013, so more difficult to see: It is no longer easy for users to look up the original factory Monroney Sticker listing Equipment Groups, but if you have a VIN etis.ford.com provides correct info about this option, but note that the actual Model designation may be listed incorrectly (Our 2013 SE is listed as a 2014 Energi) Here's a screenshot of the etis.ford.com report on the VIN of a used C-MAX currently for sale, equipped with the Park Assist option 1FADP5BU7DL503562 It's called Automated Parking System (By the way, the 2013 for 12k listed by Obob is NOT equipped with active park assist, according to etis)

A combined 1902, 966 C-MAX Hybrids and 936 Energi Hybrids sold in June 2017, down about 10% from year ago sales. Ford car sales were down 23% from year-ago results, though truck & SUV sales continue at a record pace. https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2017/07/03/june-17-sales.pdf http://insideevs.com/june-2017-plug-in-electric-vehicle-sales-report-card/ http://www.hybridcars.com/june-2017-dashboard/ Charts and tables are updated. I read the Ford.com monthly sales report like this one https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2017/06/01/may-17-sales.html and list sales numbers specific to C-MAX Hybrids and C-MAX Energi Hybrids. Ford reports an overall number, but other two sources, insideevs.com and hybridcars.com further break out sales by Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid (Energi). Ford doesn't usually break out sales by state in their public monthly sales calls and reports, unless it was a new sales record. (e.g. "Texas Ford dealers sold a record 17,000 F-150's during the month of March, 20xx." Occasionally the other two publications might list specifics in the articles accompanying their monthly sales reports, but not on a regular basis. It's easy to understand why you see more Ford hybrids in California: 1. More residents: 39 million residents in California, vs 7 million residents in Arizona 2. State exemptions for some single-occupant hybrid-type vehicles in carpool lanes. California continues to offer single-occupant 'diamond lane' or 'carpool lane' exemptions for selected plug-in-hybrid vehicles, battery-electric vehicles, and others: https://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/carpool/carpool.htm California residents who purchase plug-in hybrids like the C-MAX Energi Hybrid models, battery-electric vehicles like the Ford Focus Electric, and fuel-cell vehicles like the Toyota Mirai FCV can also qualify for rebates. As more and more Californians choose energy-efficient vehicles, the rules keep changing: https://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aqip/cvrp.htm

880 C-MAX Hybrids and 950 C-MAX Energi plug-in Hybrids sold during May 2017 for a total of 1830. Once again, assisted by attractive leases, incentives, and perhaps the less expensive Energi SE Hybrid, Energi plug-ins outsold the Hybrids. Led by a 76.58% year-over-year increase in Energi plug-in Hybrid sales, combined C-MAX sales were up 24.57% year-over-year, one of the few bright spots in Ford passenger car sales in May. https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2017/06/01/may-17-sales.pdf http://www.hybridcars.com/may-2017-dashboard/ http://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/ Interesting footnote: Ford has over half-a-million unsold cars, trucks, and SUV's in inventory. That's a 59-day supply, on average, and right at the theoretical ideal of a 60-day supply. As always, prior month table and charts are removed because current month images contain all prior data.

Like most 'enthusiast' car magazines, the editorial staff of CD measures everything they drive against very high performance sporty cars. If they tested fire trucks, CD would complain about the high center of gravity, poor skidpad handling, lack of paddle shifters, no Z-rated tires, and 0-60 times greater than 10 seconds. I wonder how many miles were on the CD test vehicle? Eco-cruise at an indicated 75mph on a relatively flat loop of Michigan interstate is among the worst possible scenarios to attain great mileage in a C-MAX Hybrid. At 75 mph-speed-limit Eco-Cruising across the flatlands of Kansas last summer in our 2013, we recorded an actual 35.6 mpg with 3 adults, luggage, and AC on 100%.

720 C-MAX Hybrids and 749 C-MAX Energi Hybrids sold during April 2017 for 1469 combined sales. Once again, the Energi plug-in Hybrid models continue the recent trend of out-selling the Hybrid models. Here's an interesting way of putting C-MAX monthly sales in perspective with F-150 monthly sales. Exactly the same chart as above, but the top is now scaled for 70,000, instead of 4,000. Why? Ford sold over 70,000 F-150's last month. Ford has sold a grand total of 86,000 C-MAX Hybrids and 36,000 C-MAX Energi Hybrids, a grand total of slightly less than 123,000, EVER, far less than two months of F-150 sales. Clearly US C-MAX sales don't really matter much in the big picture, except perhaps for EPA fleet averages. Ford is a TRUCK company. https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2017/05/sales/april17-sales.pdf http://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/ As always, prior month charts and table are removed because current month entries contain all prior data.

Welcome! I almost purchased an '03 Vibe GT in 2004. Car was great but that dealer was a nightmare. Purchased an '03 Vibe Base automatic instead, and still own it. The first thing my family noticed about the C-MAX was how incredibly quiet it is compared to the Vibe.

Should I trade it for an energi or not
kostby replied to Britishrocco's topic in Lounge: C-MAX Hybrid
If you don't need the extra trunk space of your Hybrid vs the reduced space in the Energi because of the larger battery, it sounds like a great trade. You can pre-heat or pre-cool the Energi cabin while plugged-in, using a smartphone scheduling app. -
new: 2017 Prius One; Fusion hybrid police pursuit
kostby replied to djc's topic in Competing Products
Lowering the price of the Prius Liftback by 'de-contenting' to create the Prius One does NOT improve the "edgy" (I say 'ugly') looks one bit. IMO 'edgy looks' of the Prius is the primary reason that the Ford Fusion Hybrid outsold the Prius Liftback in March 2017, perhaps for the first time ever. "Young and edgy" is indeed a valid consumer market, but "older and more traditional" is ALSO a market carmakers can choose to pursue. (Oops! Almost used the words 'older and conservative', but that might upset the many non-conservatives who flock to hybrids for political statement reasons as much as fuel economy.) In part, "traditional" also might help explain why the Fusion Hybrid & Fusion Energi Hybrid sedans also widely outsell the C-MAX Hybrid & C-MAX Energi Hybrid hatches. For now, at least, many of us older, retired folks have way more money (viewed more cynically, future inheritance of our kids!) to spend on shiny new vehicles than the "young & edgy" crowd who are often squeezed between the "gig-economy" jobs market and crushing college-loan debt. -
Full March 2017 update with table and charts now posted. In a month when Ford combined sales dropped 7%, 671 C-MAX Hybrids and 662 C-MAX Energi Hybrids sold during March 2017, with a combined total of 1,333, down 22% from prior-year March sales. Truck sales are up 10%. Ford Fusion Hybrid had it's best sales month ever in March 2017, with 5865 sold. It was the best-selling hybrid in the US in March 2017, even outselling the Prius Liftback, according to hybrid cars.com. Ford Fusion Energi Hybrid sold 1002 units. So Ford Fusion Hybrids are selling in decent numbers, just not that many Ford C-MAX Hybrids. https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2017/04/sales/17march-sales.pdf http://www.hybridcars.com/march-2017-dashboard/ http://insideevs.com/march-ev-sales-2nd-best-month-ever-in-us-momentum-now-unstoppable/ As always, prior month table and charts are removed because current table and charts contain all prior data.

Ford to end C-max production at Michigan plant
kostby replied to djc's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
Today Ford announced it is investing $1.2 billion in three Michigan facilities, including $850 million at the Michigan Assembly Plant. Indirectly, I think Ford announced the end date of US C-MAX production at MAP, at the end of April 2018. If I'm wrong, and 'next May' means 2017, then US C-MAX production will end in April, 2017, a few weeks from now. Ford is retooling the plant to begin producing the 2019 Ford Ranger, scheduled to begin 'at the end of 2018', and the 2020 Ford Bronco Link to full Ford press release, also available from Ford Superticker Topic in these forums. https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2017/03/28/ford-investing-one-point-two-billion-in-three-michigan-facilities.html -
February 2017 Update 676 C-MAX Hybrid and 639 C-MAX Energi Hybrid sales for a total of 1315. https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2017/03/001/Sales-Release-February-2017-with_tables.pdf http://www.hybridcars.com/february-2017-dashboard/ http://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/ As always, prior month charts and table are removed because current chart and tables contain all historical data. I haven't been in the market for a new C-MAX since we purchased our 2013 SE in early 2014, so I haven't paid much attention to the current models on sale, but I received a brochure for the 2017 C-MAX in the mail today. I was surprised and pleased to note that Ford added a C-MAX Hybrid Energi SE model to the 2017 line-up (as well as Platinum top-of-the-line, replacing the SEL, apparently), and, like our C-MAX Hybrid SE, cloth seats are standard.I would have quite likely purchased an Energi with cloth seats, had they been available in 2014. Now, I'll probably just wait a couple of years until there are a good selection of used 2017 Energi SE's to choose from.

January 2017 update 473 C-MAX Hybrids and 473 C-MAX Energi Hybrids for 946 combined sales. For perspective, combined C-MAX sales are just 57,049 fewer than Ford F150 sales for the month of January 2017. To put it another way, Ford sells as many F150's in two months as the entire combined US C-MAX sales in the 53 months since introduction. Is it any wonder Ford has announced plans for a Hybrid F150. 53rd and absolute lowest combined sales ever, 2nd lowest Hybrid sales ever, lowest Energi sales ever. This follows December 2016 that was the best Energi sales month ever, and one of the best combined months in a while. I guess some really great Ford incentives expired at the end of December! For the first time since I've been following monthly sales reports, Ford attached tables showing the breakout between retail sales and fleet sales. https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2017/02/01/17jansales.pdf http://www.hybridcars.com/january-2017-dashboard/ http://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/ As always, prior month attachments are removed from older posts in this thread, because the latest update contains all prior data.

Where to find Optional Features Listing for 2013 C-Maxes?
kostby replied to SPL Tech's topic in General Discussion
To answer your specific question, EVERY Hybrid SEL and Energi SEL should have Ambient Lighting, and every SEL with 301A, 302A, or 303A will have HD Radio, but not either base 300A. Here are two screenshots from the 2013 C-MAX Brochure with the details: Base model C-MAX Hybrid SE is designated Equipment Group 200A Base model C-MAX Hybrid SEL is designated Equipment Group 300A Base model C-MAX Energi (plug-in) Hybrid SEL is also designated Equipment Group 300A 2013 C-MAX Option packages: As I understand it, Daytime Running Lights (DRL) was a special order option, and commonly added to Fleet/Rental purchase vehicles. The colored LED interior lighting is called Ambient Lighting and was part of the Hybrid SE 201A and 203A Equipment Groups (but NOT base 200A or 202A), and ALL the 300A Base Equipment Group in both the SEL and Energi SEL. The Ambient Lighting package is also available separately for purchase & installation in the SE from Ford Parts as Ford Interior Light Kit cl8z13e700aa for $249.00 -
I successfully updated my SYNC on my 2013 C-MAX Hybrid SE with NON TOUCHSCREEN, NON-SONY "base" SE audio system over the weekend. Took me two tries, because after downloading the appropriate installation files from my owner page, I used The Unarchiver on my Mac to unzip and create the installation files on a blank USB. The SYNC update installer on my C-MAX apparently looks for two files (install.lst, and autoinstall.lst) in the root directory of the flash drive, and the rest of the unzipped files MUST BE in a subdirectory named SyncMyRide. Apparently because I used The Unarchiver (a different product than the one specified on the Ford page) to auto-unzip the files on my Mac running OS X El Capitan 10.11.6, The Unarchiver did not create the folder and dumped everything into the flash drive root directory. So attempting to install, the SYNC Lady was very insistent that no files were found. Fixed that by creating the subdirectory folder, dragged the other files into the subdirectory, and quickly it installed (with the car running) flawlessly in about 5 minutes. The SYNC Lady was pleased! It was late and cold, so I didn't really check to see what's different about SYNC now, except that the release notes mention a 'Reboot SYNC' menu item now exists, and I did see that on the display. Important note: DO NOT erase the flash drive when you're done installing the update. FIRST, plug the flash drive back into a computer, reopen the Ford owners page, sign in, and it uploads an update file to their records that the SYNC update was successfully completed. Otherwise you'll get automatically generated nagging little reminders from Ford... ;)

2184 combined December 2016 sales, 23rd best month in the 52-month history of the C-MAX line in the US. 895 C-MAX Hybrids sold. 1289 C-MAX Energi Hybrids sold, the BEST EVER sales numbers since the the C-MAX Energi went on sale in October 2012. Even surpasses the 1285 sold (primarily to rental fleets at that time) in November 2012. Headline from the Rodney Dangerfield "No respect, no respect" News Department: Despite selling more C-MAX Energi Hybrids than any prior month of production, it does not even get mentioned in the boilerplate December 2016 sales press release from Ford! Truly, Ford is a truck company (nearly 90,000 F-150's sold again in December!) https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2017/01/04/December-2016-Sales-Release-with-tables.pdf http://insideevs.com/almost-25000-evs-sold-as-december-2016-crushes-sales-records-in-the-us/ http://www.hybridcars.com/december-2016-dashboard/ As always, prior month table and charts are removed because current month contains all prior data. NOTE: This month, I reformatted the historical sales table text size from 12-point down to 10-point, for all but the most recent month numbers, because I'm simply running out of room for enough rows in the screen shots.

Ford to end C-max production at Michigan plant

Check Engine Light--Issue Can't Get Fixed
kostby replied to ScubaDadMiami's topic in General Discussion
Great advice from Plus3Golfer, and a few more details. Without purchasing anything, you can put the dash display in Engineering Test Mode and read any recent DTC code(s) yourself. (I found the ETM mode details in an old thread here in the C-MAX forums, but I can't quickly locate that thread now.) Then post any DTC codes here, and maybe Plus3Golfer or Paul or someone else with access to the manuals can look them up and give you some insight without spending more money or wasting more time troubleshooting at the dealership. To enter Engineering Test Mode, hold the left steering wheel OK button when turning on the car. (Not actually starting, simply turning ON. I have an SE, not the SEL, so I simply switch the key to On, not Start). Keep holding the Left steering wheel OK button in until you see 'Engineering Test Mode' banner and the yellow letters ET in the upper left of the left dash display. Then release the OK button and use the up/down arrows of the left steering wheel controls to scroll through the ET display screens (there are quite a few!) until you get to the DTC Hist Curr screen. If you own a recent smartphone, tablet, or laptop, you can purchase an inexpensive code scan module in either Bluetooth or Wifi. The module plugs into one of the two C-MAX Diagnostic ports under the dash and permits real-time reading and recording the info in real time while driving using an app such as FORScan or Torque. Once you have the scanner, feature-limited free demo versions of FORScan and Torque are available in the Android or Apple App store for your specific device. I've only used the free version of the apps, and only long enough to verify that my scanner was working. -

811 C-MAX Hybrids and 721 C-MAX Energi Hybrids sold during November 2016 for a combined total of 1532. That's the first year-over-year combined sales increase since September 2015, and the first November combined sales gain in the 51-month history of the US-built C-MAX. A modest 5% year-over-year gain in combined sales of 1454 matches Ford's overall 5% sales gain for the month of November. The month-over-month combined gain is an astonishing 58%, so perhaps last month's lowest-ever combined sales were a result of low dealer inventory. https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2016/12/1/November-2016-US-Sales-Results-with-charts.pdf http://www.hybridcars.com/november-2016-dashboard/ http://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/ As always, charts are removed from prior monthly posts in this thread because the newest monthly sales report contains all prior data.
