  1. Hey, another C-Max in North Texas. Welcome, dlandrum!
  2. Rachel, was your dealer able to give you a build week? I've read that the window sticker will probably show up about a week before the build date, and, as I recall, that was the case for us.
  3. He updated his review today and mentioned that he's 12. I'm a writer, and the last thing I want to do is discourage a young aspiring writer. If you're reading this, best of luck. And kid, I'm gonna give you some advice that I was given years ago: When you publish something, bad reviews come with the territory. Take it with grace and good humor, and you'll go far.
  4. I love Indian food. Had some the other night. My fave is Tex-Mex, though.
  5. Nah, I think this author is sincerely trying to review cars. I found a cached review. it's not a link farm. I see by his profile that he's a student, and that the C-Max was a family rent car, so I don't think it's a stretch to assume he wasn't able to drive the car, even if might be a legal adult.. Some rental companies won't allow people under 25 to drive their cars. I'd like to think he might have felt differently about it had he had the opportunity to drive it. That doesn't excuse the factual errors, though.
  6. This baby sits on a shelf in the home office: And it can play "Daisy" through a transistor radio!
  7. We have a trash bag hanging over one of the back seats. A few cables in the console box. The manual, our mileage log, and napkins (once I remember 'em, at least) in the glove box. My purse either goes in front of the front seat or just behind it. Sometimes the cell phone goes in the drink cup in the console if I'm charging the car. In the rear I have a box I used to keep in the trunk of our previous car. It's a 12" square collapsible fabric-covered box that I found at a thrift store. It's usually folded and in one of the cargo nets, but I've found it very handy for containing items that might roll around in the trunk, particularly after a run to the grocery store.
  8. Texas has no taxes on most grocery items. So yeah, you can save some significant money by crossing the border. I like HEB. They have some of their Central Market locations in my area, but there aren't many of the superstores. When my MIL lived in Waco, I'd shop at a superstore there once in a while. They had great prices and I could buy some stuff in bulk. CM also sells some items in bulk. Wasabi peas. Just sayin'. ;-)
  9. Oh, some drivers are just frustrated because they can't get somewhere two seconds sooner. Last night a guy honked at me because he felt I hadn't taken off at a stop light fast enough for him. If I'd have taken off any faster, I'd have hit the car in front of me. And then he'd have plowed into me, and hey, then he'd have REALLY been inconvenienced.
  10. Our insurance went up a little bit, but I was expecting that. We were replacing a sixteen year-old car. The insurer did give us a discount for having an alternative fuel vehicle, though. Thanks to the discount, it didn't go up as much as I thought it would.
  11. I hate to be the one to break it to you. Sit down. Your new car will not do the dishes. I know. That's so sad. I wish mine would come in and dust and vacuum the carpet. ;-)
  12. Hey, it all depends on what kind of beer you're buying! ;-)
  13. I never expected to average 47 MPG. Even in this weather, the MPG is outperforming our old guzzler, and that's what we wanted.
  14. You don't even have to swipe your finger across the sensor. Just touch it until you hear the lock click.
  15. There ya go! If you have the manual open in a desktop computer and are using Adobe Reader, you should also be able to open the Table of Contents on the right-hand side of your screen. That can help if the term you're searching for is ambiguous or used lots and lots of times in the manual.
  16. Exactly. Our old guzzler was getting 18-20 MPG. The C-Max runs rings around it. I'm not gong to put my health in jeopardy for a little extra fuel economy.
  17. Where I live, we get up to 10% ethanol in our gasoline mixture. There are places that have ethanol-free gas, but I'd waste most of a tank driving out to a station that has it. Hey, Texas is a big state. And as I said in another thread, I have asthma. Going without A/C in the heat is asking for more health problems than the extra couple of MPG is worth.
  18. I have asthma, and while I can deal with the cold for a bit, I have to run the A/C on hot days because we live in a non-compliant area. Yes, air pollution is a trigger. I'll take the lower MPG over extra doctor visits and meds any time.
  19. I live on a street that has heavy traffic enforcement, and I'm always on the lookout. More than once I've had a tailgater whip around me when I *knew* there was an officer with a radar gun ahead. Boy, did that tailgater get an expensive surprise!
  20. This makes sense. Would you really want to see an "ease up, already!" display when you're braking in an emergency situation? I didn't think so.
