  1. Is there any benefit of being able to go above 60 in EV? I can't imagine that above 60 in EV the batttery won't last very long before the ICE came on to charge it back up. I'm trying to remember on my stints above 60 if the ICE was running or not...
  2. not a huge hit but once the airbags and seatbelt tensioners pop its adds a lot of money to the repair bills. How much did you get for the 2013? glad the cargo was ok...
  3. in the owners manual on page 96/97 it explains the function of how the buttons work. yes one switch will keep all the lights on no matter what you do. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&ved=0ahUKEwiT7K2mkvLJAhUGWx4KHZroCXIQFggvMAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fordservicecontent.com%2FFord_Content%2Fcatalog%2Fowner_guides%2F13cmhom3e.pdf&usg=AFQjCNELaQqxGxXtEKSUof-rgZfik9ejoA&sig2=8RT3TXWzskio90ejcZFniA&cad=rja
  4. thanks all for the discussion... I have done the "N" before I have a stretch that if I hit it at 45 (speed limit changed from 45 to 30) I can coast in N all the way to the intersection with out ever falling below the speed limit. its a fairly constant slope for 200' that a bit over a mile long with a stoplight intersection. in N for the entire trip the HVB will never be full at the end of the run. but if I leave it in D and feather the gas and maintain the speed and use the brakes on the final slope to the stoplight I can get the HVB full which helps for the final stretch to work which is 3 miles of flatland
  5. yeah I know the engine is not "running" just spinning my commute has a brief stint flat at 55. but everywhere esle 35-40 and some hills. I usually just set the eco cruise at 40 and just roll. let the car coast and generate as much momentum when going down hill such that I can make it up the next hill/incline with out the ICE coming on. so i wont use the hill descent button. Some time if I'm in some traffic I'll have to kick the ICE on sooner to keep the speed up. So, the next question. if you apply the brakes lightly are you just increasing the regen more than straight coasting?
  6. Hey folks. question about hills. Another post got me thinking. FWIW I use the engage display with instant MPG showing as well When going downhill we have several options at the top of the hill. 1. We can coast down the hill and let the car build up momentum/speed with out applying any brakes 2. We can coast down the hill using the brakes to maintain our speed 3. we can have the downhill button depressed and allow the compression of the ICE to help slow down and maintain speed. on my drive today I noticed that when using options 1 and 2 the instant mpg bar stayed in the blue and the EV icon stayed lit. So I hit the downhill button and I noticed that on the more gentle slopes the car seemed to slow a bit but the EV stayed lit and the mpg bar stayed blue. But on a steeper slope the mpg bar turned white and the EV disappeared, and the ICE came online. and by coming on I mean that it acted like it was a manual car with the transmission in gear while coasting down. IE that the resistance of the engine compression was slowing the car down. So my question is. Which is best for fuel economy.... I'm thinking that #3 is probably the worst for FE
  7. so just on those two trips, your average is 43.... not horrible since its winter time fuel, and cold outside temps (which uses ICE to heat the cabin) also keep in mind that if you have the windshield defroster(ac) on you are eating up battery power as well. on my trip to work in the morning I can get low to mid 50's but coming home exact same route, its low 40's to high 30's. if you look at my fuelly chart you'll see that early on my mpgs were down low 40's, when I first got my c-max. call it the learning curve of the car. Sicne I had a prius before I already knew how to drive to a hybrid...sort-of terrain place a big part in our neck of the woods. hills can help you in one direction, but kill you when you go the other direction. and it doesn't need to be much of a hill. even slight grades that you may not notice as a driver, your call will notice.. I keep my display on the "engage" display. and when I accelerate with the ICE I try to stay a round the second line. there are two schools of thought. accelerate slow and get better MPG with out really revving up the ice, or accelerate quickly to get up the speed and ease off the gas and the begin what folks call pulsing and gliding.
  8. at work we we had a fairmont. one of the jesuit preists had special ordered it. Straight six 200 ci with a 4 speed on the floor, no AC no Fm radio. Our shop inherited and used it for many years until it just became too hard to get it past DC inspections.
  9. Taiwwa This time of year, Winter, is the worse for fuel milage. the winter fuel is not as energetic as summer fuels, plus the engine must run to make heat for the cabin. so if you have your heater set high the engine runs more. I use the seat heater to get my butt warmed up. But my car is also garaged which helps keep it a bit warmer than if it was kept outside. I had a prius before the cmax so I got to learn how to drive a hybrid to maximize the mileage. Yes you can drive the hybrid like a regular car and get ok milage. but with a hybrid, driving "calmer". coasting up to a stop light, easing off the gas as you near the crest of the hill and let your momentum carry you over using the electric motor on the down slope to accelerate to increase you speed to have more momentum for the next hill. will result in much better mpg. speed limits....stick to them. much better mpg, but you may experience hybrid rage from the other drivers. I notice you are in west VA. I live in Vienna VA, so if you were in the neighborhood and wanted to compare mpg on a route....
  10. the only other option would be a cup in the center console. But I was a left hand smoker and drove with my right hand. so it was awkard doing the center console thing. not sure youll really find anything that doesn't look "cheap"
  11. Ill be filling up today at juts under 2 a gallon. Pretty nice... but yeah as long as gas is cheap hybrids and letrics won't be as popular... All it will take is for ISIS to hit a oil rig or processing plant... or sink a super tanker.... it will go back up...
  12. that via is a neat looking truck... get rid of the engine/generator and add more batteries.
  13. i woudl think a small diesel engine and a robust battery back would make for a nice hybrid drive train for a pick up... instead of a 30gallon fuel tank, go with a 10-15gallon tank and use the space for batteries. Yeah th 3/4 ton pickup truck may actually only be able to haul 3/4 of a ton... but th combination f the batteries and diesel should be able to put out the the needed torque.
  14. I could understand not seeing noticing the door issue on a post delivery inspection. but a dent in the c pillar should have been easy to spot and point out, just like the weatherstripping and scratches on the interior body panels. Weather stripping coming off would be a warranty fix. and if the doors and hatches are out of alignment it should also be an easy warranty fix.. most hinges have the ability to be shimmed or adjusted. The holes are usually oblong/elongated to allow for better fitment. the pic you took of the ford emblem stamped into door frame. mine looks just like as well. maybe a double stamp from the factory press.. In regards to body panel fitment You have to remember that you did not buy a rolls royce that had body panels fitted by meticulous craftsmen. you bought a ford built by "robots" and union labor.. I'd spend 50 bucks on a car fax. while its not the bible. it may show something. Heck you just bought the car from a dealer, they would by all means have a carfax service maybe ask them. Ask you insurance company they might be able to run one. the scratched in the interior body panels would be hard to prove one way or the other as to if you did it or it came that way. I see a lot of stuff that could easily be fixed under warranty...
  15. um don't smoke... :P one time smoker, long time non.. put on a few lbs after I stopped...but much happier. how about the door, window mount ones.... http://www.amazon.com/RoadPro-RP-452-Small-Self-Extinguishing-Ashtray/dp/B001JT98HM/ref=lp_318293011_1_17?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1448908952&sr=1-17 this one mounts to the vent.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/151874304130?ul_noapp=true&chn=ps&lpid=82
  16. woohoo.... if you are showing an average of 45 mpg or better in the display 600 should not be a nail biter how much gas did you end up filling the tank with...
  17. Have taken my C-max on 2500 miles road trips. I'm not sure an energi would have done well for me in that capacity based on what I carried. but for 90% of the rest of my driving an energi would have worked perfectly. We also have a Saturn Vue Green Line. which means if the Cmax would not suit my needs, the Vue could easily substitute. 10,000 or so of my miles that I drive each year is too and from work. 15 miles each way. with the ability to plug in at work. I could, in theory, get lots of free miles... I guess you juts need to evaluate why you would want/need the energi over the cmax. Ie pros/cons if storage space is a huge issue, Ie something you need often, then its any easy choice. if storage is a minor concern. then keep in mind that the 3000 in savings would go a long way to renting a truck from Home depot, or paying for home delivery of what ever you are purchasing. or renting a van for small trip in place of the energi. also keep in mind the if you have a lot of short trips think of all the fuel savings from the energi http://www.fuelly.com/car/ford/c-max?engineconfig_id=&bodytype_id=&submodel_id=1873
  18. they don't call it the 542 mile club :) You'd be able to make 600 easily with out running dry based on your mpgs you could always have a small jerry can with you as you get close if you were concerned...
  19. the C-max and Prius wagon are pretty close in MPG but in creature comforts, interior quality and fun to drive its kicks its butt here are two links from fuelly. one fore the prius and one for cmax non energi mpg pretty close http://www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/prius_v http://www.fuelly.com/car/ford/c-max?engineconfig_id=341&bodytype_id=&submodel_id=1203 Car makers have been making claims that "X product is better than Y product" for decades... So I don't see any case in that. Yes someone screwed the pooch on the mileage. but is this forum not living proof that the car can easily attain the mileage that ford claimed. I've gotten most of my tanks in the high 40's and one at 50... and the only thing i've done is have my tires inflated to 40 psi and not drive like an a@#hole Of course what I get in VA will be different in CA or Texas, or Florida. and at winter time VS summer... No I don't ant to abolish the judicial system(there are items i'd love to see reformed, but thats not for this forum). and I would think that if the feds though that ford was doing something malicious it woudl have been on it like white on rice. Years ago.... And yes in the long run, the lawyers will come out winners.
  20. they sent a couple reimbursement checks to current owners at the time. Isn't that enough penalty... Didn't they end up paying out over 20 million in goodwill to current owners? So we need to waste taxpayers money to make the lawyers richer?
  21. funny this topi comes up. Now I know I'm not the brightest bulb in the box. but last night I pulled into the garage at home left the key fob with my work keys in the cup holder. and closed the door. came back a couple hours later and opened up the tailgate to remove a parcel and went back inside. came out this morning to go to work and the doors were locked and the keys were inside. Now my wife had used my car last week and the spare key fob was in her purse. So its possible that the fob got hit while she was unloading groceries from her car.. I had been cutting the grass on my tractor and I was worried that the keys were in my pocket and fell out some where in the lawn. But pretty bizzare.
  22. well got the cmax back form the body shop. it was down for a week. My rental car was a Chrysler 300, While having a big car is nice. I really enjoyed the fact I could point my right big toe to the ground and the car would jump. but parking was a PITA, and 20mpg sucked.
  23. Welcome to the club Not sure that Ford C-max wheels are high on the theft list. All of they"security wheel lugs" I've ever had some how the security lug ends up going missing and its always a PITA to get the wheel off. and as far as flat tires. I can count on one hand over the last 20 years that I've needed a spare tire and jack. IMO the trunk space is more important, to me... But I think our bolt pattern is the same as the focus. so getting a space save spare and jack assembly from a junkyard should be pretty easy. that being said. I think ford could have lowered the rear floor for the batteries and put the spare tire above the batteries... But that probably would have resulted in major redesigns of the rear area. Which would have jacked the price a bit. or instead of a spar tire.... more batteries
  24. if you are not gaming while driving. could he alter the power consumption settings in windows to make the laptop less power hungry and not trip thebreaker
  25. wish adding Nav to a non nav SEL was that easy. :)
