Ah, thank you. I suppose I'll eventually look at how everything is run, and to/from where on the C-Max, but figured it would be like the FEH I owned before. Yeah, I had the 12V low voltage issue on mine (old battery that needed replaced) that caused a slew of other DTCs that triggered the SSN warning on mine when I was on the highway. Luckily I was able to get over during rush hour and let it sit awhile before restarting and continuing home. When I did the research on the 12V problem causing the SSN, I figured I'd look at, and resolve, the other causes like the MECS pump and the rear blend door actuator (2008), so I bought those parts and replaced them myself.

As someone who replaced the MECS pump on his own FEH, I'm curious what the part # and location is for the part you mentioned that was replaced.

To keep this useful thread alive, I just bought my 2013 with 42k miles on it and had severe humming from the right rear, and a bit less so, but still very noticeable, from the left rear. My car tracks straight and rides well, just has a LOT more road noise than my wife's 2014 with 18k on it. She even commented on it, which for a non-car person like her to do highlights just how bad it is. Anyway, increasing G-loads on either side while driving, and spinning each wheel/tire jacked up didn't indicate any odd wheel bearing noises, so I thought it safe to say the tires were the problem. All 4 corners have the same michelin energy saver green a/s tires, all now with 40psi per my personal preference, with relatively the same treadwear remaining in the centers tread blocks, so I'm guessing all 4 are originals that just weren't properly rotated. Both rears are more worn far more on the inside due to the increased rear camber, and both fronts are worn much more even, and of course are much quieter. Since I just put on 1k miles over the last couple of weeks and it's actually gotten a bit noisier, I figured I'd rotate them criss-crossed (LF to RR, RF to LR) and see if it improves it any. Not exactly what the manual says to do, but figured it can't hurt and would help me localize the noise. Turns out both rears now being on the front has moved all the road noise to the front, so it's definitely the tires. They should quiet down as they wear more even, but I'm sure it'll take awhile. The manual says we should rotate the tires every 10k miles. No idea when mine were last rotated, but it's definitely something I recommend doing regularly!

LOL, you need to get your ears directionally calibrated. It's a pain trying to figure out where noises come from, right? You should've seen me this weekend banging the dash near my radio controls with my head against it trying to figure out where the rattle was. I finally found it and was able to fix it thanks to a youtube video showing how to take everything apart in order.

Ah so the typical location. I figured since you thought it was the MFT that the fan noise was up front in the dash. So is the fan located in the console somewhere near the outlet then?

C-max joins brand mates in Consumer Reports Best American Cars list

Only 37MPG for the C-Max? Apparently those guys still can't figure out how to drive a hybrid. Damn digital drivers... ;) -
Pull during regenerative braking?
RobMax replied to oz10k's topic in Brakes, Chassis, Park Assist & Suspension
No pulling during normal braking from any speed here. Hybrid cars, like any other non-hybrid cars, don't normally do that if there aren't any problems. Dealership tech or service writer is an idiot or liar for saying that. Take a look under the car and see if there's anything amiss. Check for a problem with the suspension, braking components, leaking fluid, unevenly worn tire on the side it pulls on, etc. -
A front seat power outlet? I take it that's an SEL option. Was there something plugged into that outlet? If not, interesting there would be a fan turned on to cool it.

Nice job. Interesting choice of towed vehicle. Trying to make up for the low mileage on the RV? :) -
C-Max Afraid Of The Dark?
RobMax replied to SnowStorm's topic in Electrical, Gauges, Instruments, Lighting, Rear View Mirror
Sounds like someone accidentally hit the unlock button on the fob, then happened to time the touch with the timeout of the car's lighting system. Or it's possessed. -
Turn signal light
RobMax replied to markd's topic in Electrical, Gauges, Instruments, Lighting, Rear View Mirror
It should be replaced free of charge since as you said, the vehicle is still within the 3yr/36k mileage bumper to bumper warranty period. Unless of course you damaged it yourself by running into something, etc. LOL -
How many miles did it take to notice improved fuel efficiency?
RobMax replied to King-max's topic in Fuel Mileage
This myth needs to be dispelled. Octane rating is nothing more than a number to help differentiate how much compression the fuel can withstand before spontaneous combustion (aka uncontrolled explosion) in the cylinders occurs. The lower the number, the less compression it takes before 'boom' happens. Good example: My Dad's old 71 F-100 pinged (aka experienced uncontrolled combustion events) on anything less than 91, even though the engine was built for 87. As it turned out, things got old from carbon build-up, gummed up rings, etc, and it caused uneven firing on decreased octane fuel, but it ran well on 91. No big deal. Modern vehicles also have knock sensors to help burn efficiently for different octane mixtures. Plus, you could dump a whole lot more unburned gas into the exhaust stream and modern emissions controls (i.e. catalysts) will cook off any excess hydrocarbons, CO, and NOX. There will be no "gas dripping out your tailpipe" unless you happen to have a fuel injector stuck open or some other major problem that the engine and/or emissions systems just couldn't compensate for. -
Yeah, these are great cars. I just bought my 2nd one. I'm averaging just over 46mpg, calculated at the gas pump today. It took 7 gallons after 323mi. I'm going to try for a 600mi tank here soon, but I have some country driving coming up soon and wanted to top off early.

Thanks for the update on the resolution, Tracks. The more posts like this, the more googling these same codes will later help other owners figure out the same problems with their own c-max. Once mine are out of warranty I plan to do most of the maintenance myself (as on all my cars), so these threads are invaluable.

Hi, Rebecca. Before I forget, I'm wondering if you can run an OASIS REPORT on my VIN so I can see what work might've been done. VIN is 1FADP5AU1DL524053. And to answer your question above, no, the MENU button gets me to only these choices: Radio... Audio Settings Clock Settings Display Settings Oddly enough once I was able to use the Sync voice activation to say "USB" then "play all" I was then able to automatically pull up the SYNC-Media option by hitting the AUX button. That didn't the first time I tried it. Anyway, since AUX brings it up now, I have no issues at all. Related story: I had an odd dash rattle behind all the stereo controls that I fixed today. It was a pain constantly hitting every bump in the road and hearing a metallic-type rattle. I used this video someone was nice enough to make: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLkZuCt1d9oOnce Once I removed the screen 'hood' I was able to get the screen and the tray piece out of the way to then take the entire vent and stereo controls assembly out. I then discovered the stereo was just sitting loosely in the dash tray. The stereo should've been secured with 2 screws to keep it from rattling around in the try. I removed the stereo and discovered the CD mechanism also made some noise in the case so I fixed that, found 2 screws that fit, reassembled everything, and cured my dash rattle. Since the stereo screws were missing I get the feeling the stereo was replaced (possibly under the guise of the 12V problems some owners experienced), and I'm now wondering if the stereo now in the car isn't the actual C-Max stereo that should be in it. Everything works, but it sure confused me at first.

My wife thought I was going to get a BMW 335i since I'm a speed freak and they still get decent mileage. I just love the C-Max seating position, ease of entry/exit, IP configuration, and fact I'm not burning gas while coasting or stuck in traffic. I just wish it had a bit more rear cargo storage, but the fold-flat seats work well enough for hauling if needed. I've taken many a trip to the Point Reyes Station area to support some cell sites I help manage, and the car handles awesome. There's no option for USB at all on any menu, including the 'line options' I'm familiar with (especially for phone operation). MP3s work fine via the Sync commands though. Unfortunately there's no pause button available on that screen, though the center screen does show the artist and song info. Figure I'll ask about any possible updates during the first oil change. I was also surprised to find the stock 2013 stereo differs slightly even with the left side 'hard buttons' than my wife's 2014 version. I I have an "AUX" button, but my wife has a "MEDIA" button. Owner's manuals in both correspond to the stereos in each too, so I know I'm dealing with the correct stereo in the car.

My wife thought I was nuts, but I recently bought a Sterling Gray Metallic SE Hybrid for myself. My old, 180k mile, 97 beater Saturn SL1 has oil in the coolant overflow tank so I very likely either have a blown head gasket, or a cracked head at the cam journal on the last cylinder. Either problem is pretty common. I'll be tearing into it when the weather gets warmer to diagnose and repair, but in the meantime, I needed a reliable new beater to get me the 80 miles in SF Bay Area stop and go traffic. I looked for 3 weeks and found a good CPO (certified pre-owned) example at Frontier Ford for $16k with 42k miles. CPO is great since it's for 12mo/12k miles bumper to bumper, and another 4 years and 58k miles for powertrain warranty. Plus, since the car was sold in CA it has the 10yr/150k mile hybrid battery warranty (a CA state requirement). Thus far, I'm averaging over 47mpg according to the readout, but I have yet to actually do a gas pump calculation to verify its accuracy. All recalls were already completed, though I forgot to ask them to ensure all modules were updated with the correct firmware. I'll have them do that when I take it in for my 10k mile free oil change. One thing I found odd when I attempted to play mp3 music thru the usb port on my thumb drive using the standard Sync (non MFT): I couldn't get to any center screen option that showed the USB port or options, but I finally figured out I could say the "USB" and "play all" verbal commands after toggling the steering wheel's lower right Sync button. Unsure if I just need a Sync update, or if that's normal, as I've never used my wife's USB port in her 2014 either.

Hey Official Ford Service Reps, can you run an Oasis report on my 'new to me' 2013 C-Max Hybrid? I'm curious what work, if any, has been done to the vehicle before I got my hands on it. It's a CPO car, color is Sterling Gray Metallic, and VIN is 1FADP5AU1DL524053. Thanks!

Some people are beyond help. OP probably left a plastic bag full of asparagus in the cargo area. ;)

Holy hell, the new Prius is uglier than any past version, and possibly uglier than the Nissan Cube or Juke, which I think are uglier than the Pontiac Aztek. Way to put people off on hybrids, Toyota. Damn...

Ford reported to build Google self-driving cars
RobMax replied to djc's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
LOL, I've been hit twice now by self-sleeping and self-cellphoning driven cars. I'm all for taking these idiots out of the equation by giving them cars that are obviously smarter than they are behind the wheel. -
And this is why it's my last Ford product

Ease up on the assumptions, Marc. At the very least funded by Ford? In an effort to improve customer service and their image, Ford has some reps create profiles on privately owned sites to assist owners with problems. They've done this on numerous other privately owned forums too. Read this: https://social.ford.com/our-articles/suvs/explorer/ford-customer-service-division-expands-its-service-to-social-media/ And who said anything about buying pirated goods? How do you know what's available is pirated? Again with the assumptions and generalizations. My point is if you want to keep something secret, you don't offer it for sale, as Ford does with their service manuals. You realize you can buy factory service manuals from the dealership right? Is the dealership breaking the law then? If I decide to sell a manual I purchased, am I breaking the law? Is Autozone breaking the law by offering service info free online? I'm simply asking where we can get quality factory service manuals cheaper than buying brand new. There's nothing "tantamount" in your example --- you've gone off the rails, mate.
-
Why do you think this is a Ford sponsored site? Here's who owns the site according to every registration site I've seen. Doesn't sound like Ford owns or is sponsoring it, though they do have a customer supporting presence, as do other privately owned websites I peruse like SVTPerformance.com: http://website.informer.com/Sharon+Elliott+Warnner+Robert.html #2, what's wrong with getting as much information as possible on a vehicle we own? Factory service manuals are normally available thru multiple sources. I'm simply looking for the cheapest and easiest, and asking others about it. And who's to say what's been made available thus far isn't being supplied publicly by Ford? If not, then it's up to Ford to ensure that information doesn't leak.

Nice, thanks. That battery removal guide can come in handy!
