I've maintained that Ford should have brought over the body of the Grand C-Max for the C-Max Hybrid; it has the sliding doors, like the B-Max, and is about 6 inches longer than our current C-Max (but otherwise the same dimensions). Of course, they should have left the third row seats out.

Unfortunately, it does leave the question about asphalt at higher temperatures. The concern, as I read it, is that a lot of asphalt in bright daylight with temperatures above about 90 degrees starts to get "sticky" from melting, when the temperature of asphalt can be 120 degrees or higher. Of course, this also varies by the type of asphalt, as there are some compositions that have higher melting points.

Yes, my point wasn't so much about power; it was about how you have less O2 at similar air pressures, which would seem to cause the engine to run rich -- giving too much fuel because of the air pressure. Though I'm not sure how much difference that really makes. I can't speak for Austin, but Houston frequently has 80%+ humidity at 80 degrees at night and in the morning, meaning it feels like it is almost 90. As it heats up, the humidity will drop to 60%+ with mid-90s temperatures. I lived in Chandler for a summer and found that I prefer summer in the Phoenix area than in Houston.

I don't think it is quite that simple. First, while the air might be less dense (at similar barometric pressures), you then run into the issue that there are less O2 molecules for the engine, reducing engine power. Additionally, the car is harder to cool as the humidity makes it feel hotter -- and the A/C is limited in how much water it can remove from the air. Basically, you'll need the temperature set about 70 to get the car to feel as cool as 75 at low humidity. Granted, over a long enough period the A/C can get most of the humidity out of the air when on recirculate -- though it is hurt by any fresh air it brings in the cabin and periods when the compressor shuts off. Also, though I admit I may misunderstand, but I believe the engine is less efficient. Not only do you have less pressure but, I believe, the engine is still trying to use the same amount of gas; unlike at altitude where it senses there is less air and adjusts the fuel used. The engine still senses the same amount of air, by pressure, just there is less O2. Worse, the water in the air is actually retarding the gasoline burning, making the ICE less efficient. It is an interesting question. I'll be interested if others have more insight.

Looks like the advantage is the availability of all wheel drive, and more automated driving features. While it does show you can buy a two hook, I'm guessing it is not recommended for towing -- looking at the specs, there is no tow rating, like there are for the other trims of the Rogue. It has 176 hp w/ 144 lbs ft of torque, so less than the C-Max. It has a 14.5 gallon fuel tank, so range (at EPA rating) is just over 500 miles, so similar to the C-Max. Fuel economy is rated at 35 highway, 33 city for 2 wheel drive; for four wheel drive it gets 34 highway and 31 city. It has a slightly larger cargo area at 27.3 cu ft, and with the seats down it is about 20% larger, 61.4 cu. ft. It sounds like it might be nice if you need the AWD or you need the extra cargo capacity, but you'll trade off fuel economy. It will also be interesting to hear about the comfort level from those that test drive and how it might compare, as well as what actual fuel economy will be.

I've seen the rear wiper go when switching into reverse. My guess is that it is tied to the front sensor, that if it senses wetness and you've run (or had on auto) the front wiper, it automatically does the rear wiper when put in reverse.

The sticker for my 2013 C-Max says 222 grams per mile. That works out to about 138 per kilometer. I'm guessing they'd accept the numbers from either the sticker (if you have it or can find it) or from the fueleconomy.gov website.

Depends on what you mean by "parasitic." While the AC doesn't steal engine power, when cooling the car it does hit the battery very hard; which hurts mpgs, as you can't stay in EV mode for very long.

Additionally, gas is more expensive in California; about 70 cents more than the national average currently.

It looks like the Escape is currently assembled in Missouri. It will be interesting if the Escape hybrid is assembled there, as well, or if they make it in Mexico.

Unfortunately, there are new roads in my area that aren't on the A7 maps. I just wish there were a way to know if these newer roads (about 2 years old now) are on the new maps before buying them.

It appears that the S8 SD Card has been released. The cheapest price from a quick look on eBay is about $60.

My understanding is that the C-Max is not moving, that production will just be discontinued when the move occurs. If it were to continue, I believe the C-Max would move to Mexico since that is where the powertrain is assembled. If a C-Max replacement uses that same powertrain, it would also likely be produced in Mexico.

I'm still wondering if anyone else has had their MFT start up with no information on the screen. I should take a picture next time but it has the menus at the top and bottom and no information in the middle. Any idea what might be going on and if I should get Ford to take a look at it, if it starts happening frequently?

It is not that I'm getting the message, it is that I used to get the message after sitting for 10 minutes, or so. Now I'm getting the message after one or two minutes. Just curious if anyone else here has seen that type of decrease? I suppose I ought to get the battery checked.

I've had a couple of issues with MyFordTouch the last couple of weeks. The first, sometimes when I start my car I get the top and bottom menus for MFT but it will be a completely blank screen in between -- the quadrants and information for Phone, Nav, Entertainment, and Climate won't be there. If I put the car into reverse, so the backup camera comes on, the screen will be correct when it replaces the camera. Also, I typically can touch one of the menus and it will work after that. The other issue, MFT is shutting off after only a minute or two when I shut the car off, after which I'll get the message that it is shutting down to save battery. With the second issue, I'm guessing that the 12V battery is getting to a point where I need to replace it. Would that also be causing the first issue, or do you think that the system might need to be checked out (and would the recall on the MFT system cover this type of issue)? Also, if it likely is the 12V battery, what is the best way to replace it? First, will I be able to find a suitable replacement locally or will I need to order it over the Internet? Next, for those that have replaced it, how difficult is it to replace? I'm guessing I can find instructions on how to fix it here, and likely on YouTube, I'm mostly curious, since I only have basic tools and skills (such as being able to change oil) how tough I will find it to do.

Alex on Autos posted his review on the Ioniq. The comparison to the C-Max starts at the 23:24 mark. He gives the C-Max the edge when it comes to head room and acceleration, but says the Ioniq has better fuel economy, cargo space, a lower MSRP, and even better handling (and least in upper trims).

I would say yes, that you should observe the break in period for the new engine/transmission.

T-Mobile Tuesdays will have their Fuel Reward again tomorrow, get a 25 cent discount per gallon on gas from Shell.

They only got 33 mpg with the C-Max on their new 200 mile fuel-economy test loop, which is apparently 200 miles at 75 mph, and 35 mpg over the course of the testing for the review. While I realize this is Car and Driver, I did hope that the new C-Max would do better.

I've had issues with flats in the last year, at least 3 of them. One was a bolt that is similar in length to the one pictured, but much smaller in diameter. It appears I got it while attending the auto show, about 6 weeks ago. I have wondered if it was vandalism; like you, it seems odd that the tire would have been punctured by that type of screw. The one a year ago also seemed as if it likely was vandalism, I don't remember exactly what punctured the tire, but it did it about an inch above the ground, on the sidewall. The last one, back about February, I got a nail in the tire. It was in the tread but still required replacing the tire, as I caught it near the edge of the tire. So at least three flats, two of them required replacing a tire.

Alex on Autos has come out with his review of the Niro; I thought it was well done but he does waste a fair amount of time talking about what class of car it is and what its competition might be. For the week he had the car he had the base, FE model (50 mpg combined EPA), he averaged 52 mpg. Also, looking at Fuelly now, the 2017 Kia Niro shows an average of 46.6 mpg; if you look at the individual cars, most appear to be at least matching the EPA numbers, if not exceeding them. He compares the Niro with the C-Max at about the 21 minute mark, if you just want to skip ahead to that part. The C-Max advantage is better acceleration and, for the base models only, better handling -- but he only gives that advantage against the lower Niro trims since he feels the handling on the upper trim, with larger tires, has equal handling to the C-Max. For the Niro, he gives it an advantage in Fuel Economy, Design (because of the age of the C-Max design), Price (C-Max costs more), and value.

I thought it still had almost all the SmartGuage stuff, just that some has been moved to the right side display.

I've been wanting to test drive the 2017 C-Max Titanium, really see what kind of difference there is between my 2013. I went to a dealer that allegedly had one last Friday, but they had not actually received the vehicle yet, it was just being delivered. I went again today and they had already sold it.
