Suitability for occasional towing
joshg678 replied to mikeash's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
I’ve recently loaded my car with a fair amount of weight and drove on a 4 hour drive through the mountains, still got 40.5mpg and It did fine. Trans temps were ‘normal’ and I could only notice braking there was more weight. Basically had to use friction all the time unless I had very long distance and the SOC always got to 60% or higher. -
I've been carrying one for a while and i've never needed it. Good insurance Policy.

I've been averaging 53.3-56.1 on my daily trips to the office and back. No A/C lately which have helped. Haven't had any covers on until the other week i put the lower one back on. Need to figured out what i'm doing with the middle one due to the license plate issue. When I've been filling up my range estimate is 713 Miles usually. I also took a trip up to PA, I only averaged 41.5 up there, and 45.6 on the way back. Lots of mountains.

How to Drive a CMAX Hybrid/FFH to get Great Gas Mileage

I've found its based on distance. Its fun to turn it on in the drive through. Going into park turns it off immediately however. -

I do wish there was a button to turn on the rear camera while driving. Old friend of mine had the reverse switch go back on his old blazer and didn't want to pay the $80 for it to replace, so i got a manual switch hooked up. He would turn it on when people would tailgate him, some people would freak out, others wouldn't notice/care. -

Either nothing would happen or it would slow you down. Probably nothing. Typically newer cars have to be going below a certain speed to 'engage' reverse. I'm not convinced shifting to Neutral increase FE, but I've found the throttle position that is basically Neutral, and its useful to allow speed to increase down hill. -

Impending demise of C-max' kid sister, the B-max

To summarize, Americans are stupid and can't make decisions, so don't give them many. -
I would say turning off EV+ may help with your MPG in the afternoon but lower it in the morning. Also an Energi would have been the better choice for your commute but I'm sure someone said that already

That night being on will have a code in the computer to identify the problem. I bet they didn't even look at the car and tried to sell brakes because a service writer is trying to be a mechanic. That's just my guess. I would take it back and work with someone different and have them pull codes. It could be a faulty sensor causing different behavior

Wow that's wild. At least it sounds like they are trying

It's very similar to a differential on a car. I think every transmission should be like our cmax. It's just so cool imo

Suitability for occasional towing
joshg678 replied to mikeash's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
It's not really. I'm planning to get a small hitch and 300lb trailer to pull 700lbs and not be concerned -
I've seen 4kw the other day when it was 101 (just over 3 bar) but usually it's right under 3 bar for a few and goes to 2 bar for a while and steady at 1 or less. The other morning when it was 75 but 100% humidity I ran it and jumped between no bar and .25 bar most of the trip and got my typical MPG of 56 for my morning drive.

I'm currently at 45.6 on my 2016. I never use ECO select as I can't stand the Prius Button. I've had two large trips on the interstate with it (1,700 miles total) where we averaged about 38 on. My daily driving my trips range 47-56MPG

Driving right after having new transmission installed
joshg678 replied to AudenHoggart's topic in General Discussion
I bet it was a rock in the disk brake shield. It happened to my wife on her escape. Probably fell out on the tow truck ride. -
I updated and couldn't get the website to upload the xml file. Something about it was trying to find it at c:/fakepath. I just gave up What I hate about the new version is it sets my phone volume to MAX every time it connects

Looking at a used 2013, how do I avoid transmission woes?
joshg678 replied to Zoomit's topic in Buying, Order and Leasing
I'm only remembering when ford changed the design in 2014 they said it was a more efficient gear ratio. Don't know if that was accurate or if it was the cover story for the failure part. As far as reprogramming, all I have is a private message with Ford Tech that's says any time you replace a ford hybrid transmission you have to program it in the computer otherwise it won't work -
