$550 goodwill payment, relabeling of mpg, and changes coming for 2014
kc1174 replied to nemonik's topic in General Discussion
To be fair, the sales people (and techs) I've met had no clue about these cars and still don't. While getting my PCM update, I set up all their C-Maxes for EV+ and Eco and explained what it does. Of course, they maybe needed the PCM update too so probably lost them, but at least they know now. Any sales person worth their salt should know their product inside out, as should us consumers. In my line of work, I know as much as possible about our products, as well as the competition. To be honest, without this forum, I'd be lost with this car even now, 6 months in. -

Yep I think that's right - looking at gasbuddy, Canadian gas is about 30% higher than the US. Having said that, folk in HI and CA won't be impressed with a refund based on fuel price. -

Yeah I wished I hadn't read that too since it equates to $865 US.. need the source they use but they didn't include a link. -

Just thinking - I'll be keeping the car for a good few years anyway, but has anyone considered the impact on resale value by this? I can guesstimate my car lost a couple of grand in value in the last 24 hours now it's MPG is lower. That $550 check doesn't seem all that useful now. Regardless of what our own MPG might be, resale uses the EPA figures. -

This refund seems to be based on $3.50/gallon over 80,000 miles at 43MPG vs. 47MPG. If only I could buy 158.34 gallons of gas with this check to lock in that price per gallon... Called Ford to see if I could just take some of these 2014 upgrades vs. the check. Apparently not. I may buy a Fusion Hybrid badge for the car though, for the irony. -
Free loaner vehicle from Ford during their mandated fixes

I got a souped up Mustang and a 4 door F250 for my fixes/recalls. Would rather have sat in the service dept to be honest. -

Those new EPA figures - does anyone know if these were before the PCM update or after? My guess is after since Ford likely updated the test car, but interested to know. -
Colorado was one place I enjoyed driving, but doubt the C-Max would enjoy it as much as me :)

Hey - yeah thanks it's enabled. Checked all my usual settings incl. Eco after the PCM update and it was still on. I actually just got in from getting annoyed with it and turned the ignition on/off maybe 30 times. Ran one of those health reports, drove round the block and EV+ showed up thankfully. Started to wonder if Ford knew about our work around and decided to mess with us so you can't just turn it off/on but actually have to move as well to get it to recognize home. Already love this car, but with MFT 3.6 and hopefully better mileage (bought Jan and still only 4K with average 46.3mpg - work from home), this may finally overtake my first car - 1972 Mini Cooper - as my favorite. Now to move away from FL to somewhere with better drivers and seasons...

Today I managed to get EV a couple of times at 70(ish), on eco cruise, with a relatively full battery. Didn't last long, but it's there. EV seems better and AC drawing 0.5kwh at 75° with 93° outside. I still can't get EV+ back (did the 11x thing again before leaving this morning), but I'm not sure EV+ helps much anyway to be honest. Am hoping that's it and no more trips to the dealership - and their F-250 and Mustang rentals - for a while...

So, I got the FE update today. I think. EV+ locations went (and I can't seem to get them back despite using the 11x on/off trick), but regen miles remained. Even told the SA about v.85.05 IDS. Cruising at 67 with a near full battery, EV never kicked in. A common trip usually gets me 49. Tonight I got 48. No wind or rain or traffic.. As others have asked, any way to visually see if this update took?
-
Thanks. Yeah I just got in from a short drive and EV+ is working. The update didnt reset my Eco Cruise or EV+ settings, just the locations themselves. Checked all those settings while I sat there trying to figure out why the temp was showing 34° less than it actually was.

My 3.5.1 update went similarly to those who reported getting back in the car with no update taking place. Sat for 3 hours yesterday while the tech supposedly installed the update, get back in and see my phone automatically pair with MFT and no temp on the screen. The tech was adamant he installed it. It was 4PM and the center closed at 5PM. Response was come back next week. I left with the paperwork showing the successful install. Called Sync support and they confirmed all the tech did was run the version checker (the thing we can do ourselves) and never attempted to update (Sync support's words, because their systems tells them so). So I called another dealer last night and made an appointment for today. Took 2 hours and all is well. Well, apart from spending 30 mins trying to figure out why the temp showed 60° (it fixed itself on the way home) and my car thinking it's in Orlando when I'm in Tampa... Just hoping the car GPS issue doesn't translate to a bunch of messed up EV+ locations. I tried the on/off x11 trick and no EV+ so far.

Just wanted to add to this thread where dtorres should have written that section of the manual. Thank you! So I had to use the emergency tire kit. It blew the 20 amp fuse powering both 12V ports. First point - the fuses they used don't have ridges to pull them and there's no tool. The spare fuse kit I had, had a fuse puller but of course useless with these fuses. Lesson learned - when I get chance, I'll be replacing them all with fuses that pull out. To get the blown one out, I had to use a thin metal pen. Not advisable with the car on so I could see what I was doing, but necessary. Lesson learned - carry a torch. Second point - you'll be lying on the floor out the passenger door so park somewhere clean and dry. Why they didn't put this fuse panel in the trunk with the other one I'll never know. Rant over. Have a nice day!

I've always been a fan of the Einszett products on Amazon. Cockpit premium shine/oil free for the dash and trim; Windscreen clear for the glass and Kristall Klar washer fluid concentrate. Apparently used by BMW and/or Mercedes and work pretty well. Been using these for a few years and kept them going with the C-Max.

I'm up to 5 EV+ locations so far, which is nice. The 3x on/off method seems to work for me. My work is also by an interstate and drove past it yesterday doing 70.. EV+ kicked in for a minute as I passed by, which was surprising to say the least. Didn't think EV works past 62. Maybe my car's defective in a good way.

Unfortunately I don't sorry. The only information I got was that the hinge on the passenger side (was too high) was out of alignment. Looking at it though, I see the hinge is a little lower down the body than it was when I took the photo posted above. It took a couple of days, but I'd recommend taking it to the dealer. If your dealer wants to, have them call Joe the body shop assistant manager at Bill Currie Ford Tampa to see what they did. Took a few days before I took it in to get Ford to decide what to do, but if your dealer contacts my old dealer, they should have some info. Only fixed last week so it should be fresh in their memory. The body shop # here is 813-870-0441. Let us know how you get on.

So the hatch is now fixed and in the right place - one of the hinges was out of alignment. Fortunately the car alignment isn't out, so it doesn't appear to be the frame. As for the fix to the paint damage - a very, very poor touch up job and I said the same to the body shop assistant manager. He said he could get it taken care of if I left it with him for another 4 days, but I decided against it as it would likely end up with some other problem for complaining - plus the rental they gave me - 4 door F-150 - cost me more in gas in the 4 days I had it than the C-Max did for all of March. The hood they never looked at either and with grubby marks all over the car (fortunately just the exterior), I won't be back to Bill Currie Ford in Tampa again. The trust is gone to the point I decided to check the bolts were tight on the hatch just now. I'll take it to another dealer to look at the hood and pay them to do a good job on the paint damage in return for my future servicing. I'm so looking forward to the viewpoint email... Rant over.

Grand C-Max review - their only negative - the turning circle.. 3:40 I swear my old Jeep Liberty had a better turning circle, but clearly it's not the regen brakes since this is a UK car. Nicer glove box and stereo too and their 1.6 engine gets close to our "47" MPG.

Thanks both. Yeah I have no clue how long it was on the lot, but it had 230 miles on it when I drove it away, so may have been at a different dealer. August 19 it came off the line. Aside from it coming with a Focus owner manual, no tire mobility kit and 2 pieces of trim behind the rear passenger seats popped out, it's not been too bad. Checking the doors/hood/trunk are aligned wasn't something I thought I'd have to check though if I'm being honest! Just wondering though if others are driving round with the same issues without them noticing. I finally got a call back though and it's in next Tuesday, so I'll post back how it goes. I have a list of rattles for them to look at too and a horn that today started to sound weird so it may be in a few days. They said they'll check the alignment before the fix just in case it's the frame, but I'll get that checked independently afterwards.

Just found this and am comforted to hear others have the same issue with panel alignment. Bought mine 6 weeks ago, 1000 on the clock, built in August. Noticed just over a week ago the hatch is not aligned properly - drops from the passenger side to the driver side by about 1/2" up top, but the gap between the bumper and the bottom of the hatch is consistent. The hatch is also about 1/2" closer to the passenger side than the drivers side. I only noticed this when I saw the hatch was rubbing against the body on the passenger side, with paint down to the metal in a small spot. Body shop took photos to send to Ford to see what to do, but that was a week ago and calls to the body shop manager's VM go un-returned. Since then I've noticed the hood on the pass side is lower than the drivers side and is so flush, you close the hood and it's metal against metal just like the hatch. What were the outcomes of those who had these issues here? My initial reaction was a twisted frame. It has pulled a bit to the right, particularly on acceleration at lower speeds but assumed this was the new tires breaking in. I'm all for the US auto workers, but given my past Fords were built in Mexico without problems like this, I'm beginning to wonder if Mexican QA is better than in MI.

Anyone else experience a lot of rattling from their dash, center console and the overhead light fittings? They've got progressively worse and am only at 900 miles. If I push down on the plastic above the MFT screen, that rattle goes away and if I push up on the light, that goes away. Makes my nice looking car sound cheap, but at the same time I'm not too keen on the idea of the Ford dealer ripping it all apart to fix it. As an FYI, the two plastic pieces in the rear above and behind the rear seats are both popped out (where the grills are to allow battery heat out), so it's going in tomorrow to fix that. May just have been thrown together badly.

I know it's not due til 20k, but does anyone know where the cabin air filter is in the passenger footwell? I've looked around quite a bit but nothing. The manual is pretty nondescript in it's detail..
