  1. That isn't true. Plenty of people don't have garages. We have friends who live in Miami and their entire neighborhood was built without garages. There are public chargers in Florida. Those public chargers are outdoors, not in a cool garage. Not true. Workplace charging is almost always outside. It may be in a parking ramp, but those aren't hardly any cooler than the ambient temp. Also, plug-in vehicles aren't that expensive. In many cases you can get a C-Max Energi for less than a comparably equipped C-Max Hybrid after the federal tax credit. If you live in a state with state incentives then a PHEV can be much cheaper than the hybrid version of the same vehicle. It may be cool in terms of air temp, but what about humidity? Preconditioning will remove the humidity from the air inside the car before you start driving thus making it feel cooler. This would delay the point at which you'd need to turn the A/C on once you start driving outside of your cool garage thus resulting in lower electricity consumption and increased EV range.
  2. What network are the chargers on? If they're ChargePoint you may be able to reserve one. ChargePoint stations also usually show if they're in use or not. You could check during Panthers games to see how many of the stations are in use. If you see that they're almost all empty then you could probably take the FFE.
  3. The problem is that you aren't understanding the benefit of preconditioning. A/C uses a lot of energy when you first turn it on to cool a hot car. Just look in your C-Max at how much energy is being used by the A/C in the summer when you first start it up. Preconditioning allows you to get the car cool using power from the wall instead of from the battery. This means that you can start your trip with a full battery and a cool car. Since driving on wall electricity is way more efficient than driving on gas it makes a ton of sense in the Energi vehicles to precondition. Since wall electricity is your only source of "fuel" in an EV it makes a ton of sense to precondition. It takes a lot less energy to keep the car cool than it does to cool it down initially. That is the benefit of preconditioning, you aren't giving up EV range for that initial cool down.
  4. Thanks so much for the detailed update. Please keep them coming! I disagree completely. Pre-conditioning is incredible. It enables you to use electricity from the wall and not give up any range while getting into a heated or cooled car.
  5. My first thought before reading any replies was that someone recently removed the shield to work on the car and they didn't properly reattach it. I hope the oil change place will accept responsibility. Please let us know how it turns out and where the oil was changed so that other owners can be aware.
  6. When the temp is very cold this isn't an issue. Without foam the warmest the coolant gets here in winter is about 165-170 F. With the clear plastic grille covers like Paul uses you can get to about 180 F. With foam I can get to 185-190 F. This is on the freeway with ambient temps anywhere from -10 to 15 F. Colder than -10 and the coolant doesn't get as warm, warmer than 15 and it can get slightly warmed. All these readings are also with the heat running which lowers the coolant temp. Without heat you can get the coolant temp up over 200 F at around 30 F ambient.
  7. The chart doesn't work for me. The graphic is not available.
  8. Interesting. I should look at doing this analysis on our car. Especially since it'll likely be close to 2 years between oil changes in the Energi depending on how much road trip driving we do.
  9. Your comment about 2 mpg highway with foam versus your grille cover.
  10. I don't understand... See this post: http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/8364-stuffed-foam-in-grill-mpg-update/?p=76016
  11. Are you already out of warranty? Most owners here are still within warranty so there hasn't been much need for any such list.
  12. Why not just use foam? It's the cheapest method, foam costs under $2 here for a package of pipe insulation. It's also very simple since all you need are scissors. And you can reuse the same foam pieces year after year so there's no on-going work or cost. If you push the foam in all the way it hides very well.
  13. It shouldn't be. Ford said in the letters they sent to owners that you should not take your car in for the 14S21 recall unless the airbag light is on. There is currently a limited supply of parts and they'll notify owners when parts are available for all cars. For now the only cars that get repaired are ones with the airbag light on.
  14. myfocuselectric.com, I had not heard of the other site. It shouldn't lose much charge. The car likes to be plugged in when it's cold though because the car uses the TMS (thermal management system) to heat the HVB. The TMS doesn't do much on 120V power though. Hopefully you can get 240V installed at home soon. We have a ClipperCreek unit and are very satisfied with it. Others have highly recommended the JuiceBox or OpenEVSE as DIY options which are cheaper. If we had a house and were doing the installation ourselves, as opposed to our apartment maintenance dept doing all the work, we would have bought one of those options.
  15. Awesome! Come check join us on the Focus Electric Forum. It's an incredible vehicle. We love our Focus Electric. We've seen range greater than 100 miles in the summer and now with temps in the single digits to high teens we're seeing about 60-70 miles of range with the heat on. Make good use of Go Times to precondition the car at home.
  16. This is one thing that I really don't like about the C-Max. In the Fusion it's really easy, but on the C-Max the ICE is tucked back under the cowl and that makes it much harder to change the engine air filter.
  17. You may be already aware of this, but I wanted to throw in there that you can buy access to Ford's OASIS system along with all the TSBs, SSMs, etc. I believe it costs about $110 for an entire year or $20 for a month. The mods on the Fusion Hybrid Forum & Fusion Energi Forum are sharing a membership so that we can access the TSBs, SSMs etc for the Fusion Hybrid Energi. The prices above give you access to one year and model only. If you want access to all years and all models, like dealerships need, that costs about $2500 for a yearly subscription.
  18. A number of FFH owners who bought their cars used have already received checks. Ford appears to be sending the checks out in batches. Current owners first, then former owners. Perhaps people who bought used will be the last group to receive their checks.
  19. I would recommend that you post this on the Fusion Hybrid Forum too. There are a few Torque users over there.
  20. Did you take a picture of the alert? I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens again. When the alert happens, run a VHR to document it. You can then print this out and bring it to the dealer. If you decide to have it towed when the alert happens, don't power off the car so that the alert stays on the screen for the dealer. Many of these alerts don't seem to log a history of the fault which makes it harder for the dealer if you have turned off the car.
  21. Anderson & Koch Ford sells the Ford plans for a cheap price like Flood Ford. (http://andersonandkochford.com/) Flood Ford's website is: https://www.floodfordesp.com/ Prices go up if your car has been owned for more than 1 year or has more than a certain miles threshhold regardless of how long you've owned it. The hybrid components are already covered for 8 yrs/100k miles (10/150 in CARB states) and the powertrain is covered for 5/60k. Basically the extended warranty (depending on length) is an extension of your bumper-to-bumper coverage. Your warranty booklet that came with the car when new explains what exactly is covered by the 5/60 powertrain & 8/100 hybrid components warranty.
  22. I think weird glitches like this are the cause of a lot of the battery failures. Glad to see that Ford has a detailed repair now. I hope it works!
