  1. Congrats & welcome. I would be concerned about battery health. Both 12V and HVB. I'd recommend getting a good quality (not a no-name one from Asia) BlueTooth or WiFi OBD scanner and the free FORScan program for Windows. This thread contains data that will help you assess the health & capacity of your HVB. You can also monitor 12V battery health using FORScan. Edit: I would also recommend these threads for more great info. http://www.fordfusionenergiforum.com/topic/1880-obd-ii-data-for-ice/ http://www.fordfusionenergiforum.com/topic/1446-cold-weather-observations/ http://www.fordfusionenergiforum.com/topic/2566-efficient-ev-mode-driving-techniques/
  2. We've also seen a message appear which says something to the effect of "you will not be able to restart the car" to warn you.
  3. We've experienced this periodically on our Focus Electric. In the winter we usually have it set to "Last Setting" and then we set the HVAC to 74+ and Auto before turning off the car. In the summer we usually leave the remote start setting to "Auto" since we rarely run the A/C while driving. Right now the temps are mild where we don't need heat or A/C so we likely won't be using remote start much in the next few weeks.
  4. The SEL comes with a back up camera already.
  5. Do you have a ScanGauge or an Android device with Torque Pro to test this? I don't know if anyone has yet.
  6. I agree with the endorsement of MFT. Consumer Reports hates it, but we find it to be quite easy to use. Check out prices on Flood Ford's website or Anderson-Koch Ford's website for how much an ESP would cost on the used 2013. You could consider the cost of buying the used 2013 and extending your bumper to bumper warranty out by 3 years compared to the cost of the new 2014. What is the build date of the 2013? You can look it up in ETIS with the VIN. If the 2013 is a Job 1 or Job 2 car then it will still have the Lifetime Summary which is another reason to choose it over the new 2014.
  7. The letter said that parts would only be available for vehicles with the airbag light on. Having the light on indicates a failure with the current part. If the light is not on then the current part is functioning correctly. Until Ford has significant stock of this part for all vehicles they are not replacing working parts. The letter said that you will receive a second letter when parts are available for vehicles without a malfunctioning part. This is what the letter said. Just be patient. If your airbag light is off then your car is working correctly and there's no need to worry.
  8. Any PCM update like this recall wipes out the KAM (Keep Alive Memory). This means that all values in the learned tables are reset to default. It could be that your car had learned values previously that led to decreased fuel economy. Many FFH owners with poor fuel economy have found that their MPGs have improved after they have cleared the KAM through the hard reset procedure.
  9. The electric motor is 88 kW but the max discharge is usually 35 kW in the hybrid and 65 kW in the Energi. The ICE is rated at 141 HP by itself. The combined output of the hybrid is 188 HP and the combined Energi HP is 195. I have seen the ICE put out as much as 60-65 kW when climbing the mountains. I've seen the electric motor put out 50 kW in our Energi.
  10. Fueleconomy.gov shows the exact same numbers for the 2013, 2014 & 2015 C-Max Hybrid.
  11. This is about what I see. Do you have your grille blocked? These temps are also very similar to what we observe after long stretches of freeway driving. PT - I think something isn't right with your car or with your XGauge code. Do you have access to a laptop that could run FORScan and a bluetooth or wifi scanner? Then you could verify the data with FORScan.
  12. Did you get your L2 EVSE installed? That will have a big impact since you're able to draw a lot more kWh in less time. Have you configured Value Charging in MyFord Mobile? It works great for TOU pricing.
  13. Only MG2 does regen braking. MG1 is not connected to the wheels. MG2 also propels the car when in reverse. The ICE cannot propel the wheels in reverse. MG1 sometimes acts as a generator, consuming mechanical energy from the ICE and turning it into electrical energy. Other times it consumes electrical energy to slow down the ICE. In the links I posted above you can find an explanation of the different modes of MG1 operation, particularly in the Road Trip thread.
  14. Cold HVB. See this post: http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/7492-understanding-the-ffh-better-with-a-scangauge/?p=74042 Edit: Also see these posts, in fact, you may enjoy reading that entire thread. They're Energi themed, but the basic principles apply to the hybrid too. http://www.fordfusionenergiforum.com/topic/1683-obd-ii-data-for-hvb/?p=11084 http://www.fordfusionenergiforum.com/topic/1683-obd-ii-data-for-hvb/?p=11779 http://www.fordfusionenergiforum.com/topic/1683-obd-ii-data-for-hvb/?p=18568
  15. What's wrong with this type of battery inside the car? Why is it "ridiculous"?
  16. Exactly! Every tech device reaches a point where it is outdated and is no longer supported. Some products have support for more years than others, but all reach a point of being out-of-date. To extend your iPhone analogy. I got a 5s in the spring. 6 months later the 6 & 6+ were released with Apple Pay. i may be able to update to iOS 8, but my hardware is not compatible with Apple Pay. Do I go around demanding that Apple offer a hardware update for my 5s so that I can use Apple Pay? No. I understand that a cell phone costs under $1000 and a car costs $25,000 so they aren't exactly comparable. Some people also keep their cars much longer than their cell phones so the cost amortiEd per year is higher for the car. However, it's just common sense that products will be updated and what you buy today will be obsolete tomorrow. That's part of why so many people buy the new iPhone right away when it comes out. That gives them the longest possible period of time with the "newest" technology before it becomes obsolete.
  17. Check out these threads: http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/6775-what-is-an-ecvt-how-does-it-work-here-is-the-answer/ http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/9689-road-trip-observations-with-torque-pro/?do=findComment&comment=91919 http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/9602-ffh-factoids-parts-quiz/page-2?do=findComment&comment=90956 http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/8416-fusion-hybrid-powertrain-technical-analysis-with-torque-pro-a-scangauge/
  18. There is a savings. On trips of 120 miles that I do regularly the Energi nets about 5-7 MPGe better than the MPG of the hybrid. On trips of 200 miles that we've done the Energi has netted about 3-4 MPGe better than the MPG of the hybrid. There's always a savings when you can use wall electricity. And the Ontario incentive program makes the Energi cheaper than the hybrid. That is really unfortunate. We felt the same way about the Fusion Energi but we've been able to make it work just fine. My parents initially had this concern before they bought their C-Max Energi. I convinced them that it would be fine and they've had their C-Max Energi for 18 months now without a single instance where the larger battery pack created an issue for cargo space. They feared initially that the larger battery pack would be a constant cargo space issue. I'd encourage you to really analyze that again to see if you couldn't make the Energi work because you could save even more money with the Energi.
  19. I agree with this 100%. I don't think that Ford is obligated to provide any updates for our cars, but I found the tone of the Ford representative to be very arrogant & offensive. I found it very offensive that he would basically say "screw you - buy a new car" as valkraider paraphrased. I hope that Ford management also found that statement to be offensive and that this is not the attitude of Ford executives.
  20. That is correct. The shutters used to open every time you came to a stop as well as anytime the car was in Park. This meant that in the dead of winter when you'd stop at a red light the shutters would open. The shutters used to also open anytime the A/C was on even if the ICE was completely cold. Now they'll only partially open or will stay closed longer when the A/C is on depending on the A/C temps & ICE temps.
  21. This is the biggest dislike my parents have with their C-Max. It's the biggest complain my wife & I have about our Focus Electric. But, Ford has to pick and choose which features to offer in each vehicle line and unfortunately they chose to not offer memory seats in any trim of the C-Max and the Focus, on which the C-Max is based. Early on there was some talk about using the memory seats module from an Escape in the C-Max since the C-Max has the same seats as the Escape, but with how connected cars are nowadays that isn't an option. :( I thought the back-up camera was standard on the SEL trim level. Are you saying that you don't have a back-up camera?
  22. Have you looked at the Energi? Ontario has one of the best EV incentive programs in North America! You get a $5808 incentive to buy one from the provincial government!! The nice thing is that the Ontario program doesn't appear to be tax based, so unlike the USA incentives you don't have to meet certain tax requirements to qualify for the entire rebate. http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/vehicle/electric/index.shtml I would definitely get the Energi. You can likely get one for less than the hybrid after the Ontario incentives. The federal government doesn't offer incentives in Canada but different provinces do.
  23. The "key" can be found by purchasing an OASIS subscription. It defines all the codes stored by all the modules. PM me if you have codes that you are wondering about and I'll look them up in OASIS. The mods at the Fusion Hybrid & Energi Forums share an OASIS subscription since it helps so much in tracking TSBs, SSMs & more. The mods here may want to consider doing the same thing. The subscription is about $100 per year. Was your shifter accidentally in Low instead of Drive? Having the shifter in Low causes the engine to rev up very loudly.
  24. This statement is 100% wrong. This belief is called The Gambler's Fallacy. The fact that this person bought one C-Max that was a lemon has no bearing on the likelihood of a subsequent C-Max being a lemon. Take coin flipping as an example. The odds of flipping heads is 1 in 2. The odds of flipping HH is 1 in 4. The other options are TT, HT or TH. The reason the probability of getting HH is 1/4 is because you're examining a specific sequence of results. After you flip the first H your odds of flipping H again are still exactly the same, 1/2. Suppose the C-Max has a 1/10,000 lemon occurrence rate. The chance that jmjdail ends up with another lemon C-Max is still 1/10,000 for this purchase. Buying one lemon C-Max is very unlikely, however, once it has happened, that doesn't change the odds of buying another lemon C-Max. Read this blog post for more info.
